Personally, I would never hand out gifts, salaries, other payments unless there is a contract. The reason is that to get forward with a team, employees or communities; all focus shall be on improvements ahead of us.
Neither would I give it away to just a few, all or nothing.

But then, I'm not head of this competition or community.

Congrats to all winners. A winner always deserves it! That's why he/she is a winner. You deserved it!

And to the boys and girls complaining, think of something to do for the community and you might get lucky next time. Always look forward and try to improve yourself (and in this case, the community).

Ok, then can we hold the people that got devices Responsible to help or develop or do something to help the community out with Harmattan instead of just getting a device and disappearing like some of the previous winners of the N950 did?

I'm still trying to figure out who half the people that won devices are, like Hurrian and others?

(Nothing against Hurrian just I see no major contributions from him at all)

Give examples since you're making this your crusade.

Each and every person with a N950 has to do something with their N950? Even those that were given one in the name of evangelism?

What about people that have N950's and only point back to their own website and/or support their own agendas?

A lot of belly-aching over something that's a privilege. Don't get me wrong, I was once there too. Felt like the folks with a developer device should be more visible.

At the end, I realized that was futile. They owe us nothing. And if they don't fulfill what we'd consider an obligation to do something, that's on them.

I still am not sure why this is public, in this thread. Belongs in it's own thread so it can separated from the congratulations and better addressed in a more concentrated fashion with the proper audience.

Crusade? You're putting too much value on something that is not as big of a deal as you claim.

No, evangelism my foot. No one deserves a device to be an evangelist anymore that was dealt with in regards to the first round of devices given.

Each and every person that was given a device should contribute somehow.

This is not doing anything for the community.

Another useless claim.

Privilege? Are you kidding me? The people that should have gotten devices have worked hard for them. Not some privilege. I thought the old boys of Maemo behavior was over after the first round.

They owe us nothing? They made promises to Nokia of work that was to be done to get the devices. Have all those promises been delivered on? No.

You are no different than a person that votes for a politician and lets him run rampant afterwards and says, he owes us nothing, your pacifist behavior is sickening to me.

No, this is public and needs to remain so. This is childish that it has come to this.

Certain people that were deserving of devices that were looked over is absolutely ridiculous.

I have been pushing for the same people in the mailing list as well.

They made major contributions to Harmattan and as such deserved a device.

Please, unless you are trying to help the cause, stop questioning mine.

Edit: I specifically did not apply for a device because I wanted the people that deserved a device to get one.

Let me clear on this: CA was NOT about Harmattan development. This was not a development base prize. It also wasn't about Fremantle development. It was about people who have put in hours of work and effort to make the community a better place.

People on this list did everything from literally hundreds of hours of testing, to picking up maintainer-ship of libraries, to forum moderation, to literally building and maintaining the auto-builder we use today; all on their own time without payment or expecting a reward. Yes, a few were devleopers, but their award was NOT for development, rather it was for other efforts that moved this community forward.

That I can answer for you: They are the new life-blood of your community, assuming you didn't alienate them by disrespecting them.

Almost all of the people who just got a Harmattan device (IMHO) have done tons of work to earn their spot. Frankly, weather you know of them from your Harmattan-centric view or not is of little importance. Very likely, they will put similar effort into Harmattan and it's community as they did here, now that they have a device.

The fact that you can't see this as a gift to the entire Harmattan community, and would rather bash them and Council for not giving the award based on your personal criteria vs the criteria the competition was setup for is frankly insulting.

Well I can understand you , what do you I think about gently make pressure on the owners who do not contribute , or ask them to lend their device to those who are ready to take some tasks ...

Anyway, FYI my application request was in low priority since I already have one... so I have no comments to be done on the results...

But if mine dies I'll be in serious trouble , so qim please keep some spare units in case of :-)

Let me make a suggestion. Being blunt has it's place. This was not it. You and I can come to terms if you are willing to be frank and friendly. I am not here to argue with you. I am here to understand.

2nd, are you holding these people to some standard of work that they will do to accomplish what you claim they will do?

If so then I am fully accepting of what you have said and will rest my case.

Yet it happens all the time. I see folks with N950's that haven't even logged back into this site since they've gotten one.

At this rate, can't say that I blame them.

So what criteria are you basing your need for people to do something. Have any successes to point to? Yourself perhaps?

I'm genuinely curious.
