' = á " = ä ` = à ^ = â ~ = ã Seems like TMO has resized the image, see full size below: https://i.imgur.com/fU1Cyvs.png I wonder what will happen to the 'empty' button. I would go for a circle as a 'Home' button. See attached image |

Yes functionally I want to make that key being "go home" by default. But did not put Android circle as the device is supposed to load other OSes as well and I feel the "circle" will spoil the feel of integrity under other OSes. So I want to reveal this one when it's formally launched, and hopefully it can be re-mapped for different functions other than just go home. :) |

I'm curious what it will be. (The F logo of Fx?) |
Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
I don’t know if it’s too late but I think an orthogonal layout (like the N900 keyboard) is more suitable for thumb typing. Staggered keys just don’t feel natural when you want to flick your thumb from one key to another.
But then again. There is no other modern phone that sports a hardware keyboard. |

Since you mentioned other OSes Chen, do you know already if it will be possible to dual-boot like on the Gemini? Android alongside a community port of Sailfish (hopefully) or Leste would be a nice solution to cope with the lack of Alien Dalvik. It would be a bit more cumbersome for users who use Alien Dalvik frequently, but then having something more recent than 4.4 would outweigh the cost and allow a much wider range of applications. So it’s 4 different layouts? No more no less.

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
The picture of the keyboard makes me think is there enough space between the body of the phone and the upper key row? Should be enough space so that it is easy to press the keys.

Of course, this is only joking, if there is only qwerty, I'll still be happy, until I can exchange physical keys and remap the keyboard by myself :> |

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
Funny,
how a healthy portion of keyboard worshipping can silence screen size discussion :D For the size of this device my priority would be ease of typing. I see some outer spacing to hold it and not press buttons, 5 rows, multiple control keys, promising button size overall and dedicated arrows. nice. All this demands a minimum size of the device/kbd which is greater than 4.5" imo. But it would be reassuring to hear from one of the chosen few who used MotoMod Kbd about the actual typing comfort! They state, "From the very beginning, we had one goal: to create the best hardware QWERTY keyboard on a smartphone in terms of usability, quality, and visual appeal." This is the goal they have set themselves and the scale with which we should measure the device. |

How is he planning to fund it? He don’t need to tell us but that would be an obvious question for everyone who is seriously curious about the situation/device. It’s such a small batch(me assuming). Is this project doable? Or are we passed these questions ? |
Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
yes, we did. Multiple times.

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
That it is not a crowdfunded project, so nobody can complain if it doesn't succeed. From a monetary standpoint at least. That its funding is not our concern, our concern is to ensure its an awesome device by contributing ideas and to ensure its success in case by spreading the word.
If it is not made we have a lot of material and ideas for a future device and we can thank Chen for spreading a positive spirit and for trying. If it is made we have a N900 successor with modern hardware in our hands and a long guarded dream comes true :) Discussing the funding has no benefit for us. |

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
no, no really. Knowing where the money comes from won't make this a better product.
Expecting fully working sailfish is optimistic since jolla can't do it the right way on a year old device almost a year after announcement. But if this one can run AOSP with all the HW parts working then this is it. For now. I don't expect anything more. Specs are pretty much confirmed, keyboard is here, 3.5mm jack is here, notch isn't...... |

Why do you base your images ob a 5.8“ display? Maybe I have overseen something, bur @chen talked about 6“. |
Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
I have no interest in using anything android, but in putting together these comps and playing around with maemo in a vm, it's clear that it won't be a single hand usage OS on these larger devices. The future of maemo may need to include gestures at some point.

I used what Chen mentioned earlier as the base to try and figure out the size. Additionally he didn't really say earlier that it was exactly 6in more like it would fit into 6in .."It's a 18:9 ratio in 6", in another word it's the same panel as a 5.4-5.5" screen in 16:9." Also the phone he pointed to was only 5.5", Moto z2 play So I took some liberties :D since my mockups are very like very off in many ways. Also many device round out the screen specs too sometime. I don't mind changing it if everyone finds it annoy ;), perhaps on the next update. Though any more images release we won't need my mockups .. lol x |

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone
Looks very good, and it's hard to compare size on these perspective pictures but it looks good too, especially after what Chen said about the overall size. I really think (and hope) that the noise PlanetComputer has made in the HWKBD field since a couple years will help Livermorium, and what Livermorium offers to those who were reluctant with the Gemini is a much sexier/convenient form factor.
(Also, it is amazing how the construction of the N950 still is impressive years later: the body is almost seamless, has a great texture, and this little bump around the keyboard. The thing was a masterpiece.) |
