I got a new discount code (the email sais some people are getting new ones). But unlike stated in the mail i still get a message that my code is invalid. So at least my discount code for germany isn't working yet.

Apparently the discount codes are good *RIGHT NOW* according to the e-mail I just received... except for Canadians who will "receive further information next week."

It's not working in Germany yet, it seems - at least there's a bunch of us in the IRC channel and on the list that have had no luck so far.

12 minutes after six o'clock. Nokia Shop is closed now. They promised me to call me back today, but nothing happens. Old and new code still doesn't work. I used a fresh browser profile w/o any extensions.

Actually, if you remove the country from the query string, like so:

Actually, I've already got the N810 and don't quality for a discount (my first internet tablet). But it's kind of annoying knowing that most of the best developer guys are probably sitting on their hands thinking "I ain't doin nothin till I get my discount"... Looking forward to you guys earning those discount codes with loads on new stuff ;) Zuber |

From the sublime to the ridiculous.....
I CALLED the US shop to get past the backorder business.. you CAN place orders this way. Two pieces of bad news: 1) The codes still do not work 2) The ETA for the N810 is FEB 18, 2008! Yes, you read it right, Feb 18! A month and a half! Maybe they will come early but this whole business has blown up in Maemos/Nokias collective faces. I'm not above buying the device at retail (I bought my 770 and 800) but they are generating a lot of bad will and keeping the device out of the hands of the very people they need to build the software ecosystem. Well in theory we will be able to order them once the codes get sorted out. Even if the web site says back-ordered, you can call the store and place the order. I hope and pray that happens before Feb 19! ;^)

I tried a bit and it looks like there is a 'newer' Nokia shop page (Belgium, Austria...) and the 'older' one (Italy, Germany).
The 'older' one use Digitalriver to verify the discount code. If I block digitalriver with noscripts extension, nothing happens. How can it be, that the code is working for users from Italy and it doesn't work for users from Germany if it's the same place who verify the codes for Nokia?? (Digitalriver) |

Well, we do know that there's something shop/country-specific going on by the French being the only ones with the "full price being substracted as discount" bug so far. If the data is entered on a per-country basis, the German operation might have gone wrong for some reason or another.

I find the visa/mc/mastercard-only policy to be very lame. In Germany the traditional way to pay is with a free bank transfer, or a legal authorization to a vendor to debit from one's account.
So to order from amazon for example, I simply authorize them as a vendor and they can debit from my bank account. To order from other online vendors, I can either transfer the money, or order cash-on-delivery (nachnahme). Since Nokia appears to have independent country-specific online shops, it is downright insulting for the German shop to demand visa/mc/mastercard to place an order. Forcing me to apply to various banks for a credit card and subject myself to their violations of financial privacy should be illegal here. |

So sad to see that almost a week into the new year and there's still not even an acknowledgement (let alone an explanation) from maemo.org of the major infrastructure failure that occurred following the release of OS2008... very sad.
This is not a well run open source project at all - too many internal conflicts which then come across as arrogance and contempt for the community. :( |

'minor' update. After calling Nokia friday by phone (they promised to call me back) and used the contact formular to call me back too, I get today ... no answer. After trying the old and new discount code ... none works.
And I can't ask Maemo team: 'If you have further questions please contact the customer care channel of your shop.' Usual or disaster? Don't know. But now, I'm really a bit disappointed how this all can be happen :( :( Before I only pushed a bit because I was confident and euphoric. |

Hmm... I bet someone from Nokia and maybe the Maemo team will be at CES in LasVegas.
It would be nice if some of the community bloggers would stop by the Nokia/Maemo booth and ask them what is going on. I know there is an issue with there being no US option nor information, and if I'm not mistaken there is some issues with the German shop. Also has any of the Canadian folks gotten any further word on using your codes? -Shawn |

I've written the German shop team as well, using the form, and have no answer back yet - as it stands, the shop reports the device as being in stock, but none of the German codes work, neither new nor old. The phone support hotline won't pick up.

No news from Canada.
I'm still hoping they'll announce some sort of North American version at CES (WiMAX finally), and USA and Canadian developers will get access to whatever that might be. Hopefully not a gutted N810 (as in the style of several bastardized phones that get dumped on N Am). Time will tell; I'm still excited and optimistic. |

Well it seems that France is not much better than other countries... The discount code DID work for me. I ordered happily the N810 on friday. I received the tracking information, and found out that when the package was almost delivered Nokia called UPS and cancelled the shipment. And even with several calls to Nokia I have not been able to know WHY the order was cancelled.... They just promised me to call me back "in the following days because of a small problem".
Anybody else got a similar experience? |

Well, as far as I'm concerned, this program is still defunct. Not only are the US Codes not active, but there was no mention of us in the email that we got. Still useless and annoying as crap.
I mean, really? There's 2 retail outlets in the US that are owned by Nokia that currently stock the N810. Out of the 500, obviously a small fraction are in the States, how hard could it really be to organize the use of our codes through the Flagship stores? |

Update for people from Germany:
I contacted Nokia-Club instead of Nokia Shop in Germany because my phone doesn't accept tone dialing atm, which is needed to go to the Nokia Shop (1=Club, 2=Shop, default=Club). Anyway, a very friendly person :) helped me a lot to get some informations and he called his colleagues at the Nokia shop. After some minutes he was back and told me, that his colleague from Nokia Shop knows about Maemo and the 500 pieces developer discount, but it's unsure when the discount code will be activated in Germany and it's even unsure if this promotion/developer program from Maemo will be ever accepted in Germany. :( ... I'm feeling speechless |
