I have a Brodit Active Holder with Herbert Richter mount for sale if anybody is interested.

The mount is great but don't have the N900 anymore so obviously have no use for it.

Well, my PDAir car mount broke just now.

The round plastic part that attaches to the phone case belt clip just fell off when I put the phone on it. Good job it didn't come off while I was driving through the lanes with all the potholes.

I just got delivered a few of these holders from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Windscreen-Ca...item230771fc4f

First impressions are really positive - they hold the phone tightly, give access to most of the buttons (all except the power button), and construction seems good quality. It's actually black too - not that ugly brown color in his photos (I was planning on spraying it black :P)

I made one by myself too, as the options I found were not that good. Seems to work fine for now, more testing needed though:)

Here is what you need if you wish to try too:

Suction cup mount (I used this Garmin version):

Plastic cover for n900:

+ Some glue ment to attach plastic

Hey, that looks good, better than any holder I've found out there. If it works OK you should consider selling your DIY version on ebay. ;)

I'm afraid that shipping costs would be way too high with local postal service:rolleyes: If someone is willing to sell these feel free to use the idea, eventhough it is fairly easy and quick for anyone to make one.

Price point and possibility to use the keyboard are good sides, but the attachment clips on that cover might give up in rough usage. I'll see how it lasts:D

Was looking at buying this, has anyone used it? The nokia specifications state that it is compatible with the n900, but the depth of the n900 is right up to the maximum depth the cradle can hold so a bit concerned it will grip properly.

Decided to go for this in the end

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

Got it from amazon and it is really good, the top bit that you can see in the picture is a springed hinge that pushes back to allow the n900 to be placed or removed from holder.

Left review on website.

How secure are the suction cups that hold the N900 (or any other phone) to the windshield? Some devices have clips for attaching to an air vent. Is the suction cup secure enough? I don't want my N900 hitting the dash or floor!

I've used that previously presented DIY suction cup holder +1500 kilometres for now, and no problems so far:D

i'm looking for a holder i can and have it still hold the phone securely even when cornering a little aggressively. i tend to generate a bit of g-force when i take a corner in my car and the last thing i want is the n900 flying across the dashboard (and maybe even out the window!!).

ILikeMaemo 2010-08-16 23:04

Re: N900: Car Kit & Mounts

An inexpensive solution is to attach the N900 to the dashboard with something like Blu-Tack. Also goes by the name of Zorkai (Canada), Prestik (South Africa), kennaratyggjo (Iceland), Elmer's Tack (USA), and many others.

But be warned - this will look 'tacky' ;)
Apologies for the cheesy pun and extra apologies if this has been already mentioned (didn't bother reading through the previous 22 pages).

Just came across this, and bought it. It's cheap, its from Hong Kong... I'm fearing the worst! :D But if it works out, great. If not, $6 USD isn't the end of the world. Will follow up with a review once it arrives. Appears that it can do portrait or landscape, with keyboard action, and clearance for analog audio and USB. Even a cut-out for the camera. I wil LOL if the damn thing breaks the first time I use it.

Will be looking out for your review - and hoping it doesnt break half way through it! :D

Received this the other day, and am following up:

Pros:
Well made, decent materials, doesn't seem likely to break any time soon.

Suction cup has some serious holding power, is just as good as any other GPS mount I've seen. Just ensure you clean the surface you are going to mount it to prior. I know alcohol is preferred, but I just used a moistened hand towelette from dinner. :D Two days after installation, I went off-roading, mount is still attached to the windshield.

The top latch has enough clearance to cover the center power button. This is probably the only part that would be likely to break, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Received in just under 2 weeks, no delays other than standard air mail latency.

Grey rubber mat on the inside ensures a snug fit. Tight is always good!

Zoom/volume buttons are accessible, as is the camera button.

USB port is not blocked.

Cons:
The unit I received did NOT have the camera cut-out. I emailed the seller, and he will send me another, but I am trying to confirm whether the one I will be sent, will have the cutout, or be the same thing. Easy fix: use a dremel or hole tool.

Plastic housing is very close to the analog audio out port. 3.5mm cables with thick rubber-shrouds will not go in completely (unless inserted prior to the phone being inserted to the mount. Easy fix: dremel tool.

Physical keyboard is blocked due to the mount, so you will have to re-enable the virtual keyboard, or perhaps consider a wireless/bluetooth keyboard. Not friendly for texters, but perfect for GPS.

Conclusion:
For $6 USD shipped, it is very well worth it. Spend 1-2 minutes on making some adjustments with a dremel tool and you are set.

I will follow up when the seller responds, if they actually have the mount as shown with the camera cutout.

Hi purpleonyx,
I ordered the same holder and received it today (less then 2 weeks, too). There's indeed no hole for the camera. But my problem is, that the mount is not symetric and so the N900 does not really fit into it:
Attachment 13642
Does your mount look the same on the right side? The left side would fit for the "lower" part of the N900 so that I could even open the keyboard while in there, but the right side ... OK, another picture with the N900 :)

Apologies if this is somewhere else but I can't see it after looking.

I bought a Pdair Universal Car Holder last week. Very good product!

New design, easy to install and use, flexible pedestal shaft adjusts quickly, suitable for smartphones and PDAs, package includes: 1x flexible arm 1x GPS fixing button 1 x Suctio-disc base sticker

I just got mine as well and it fits perfectly, ask the seller to send you a new one and get this back.

Only thing I had to do is create a small hole on the right to let a 3.5mm plug in the audio out jack.

PS: I didn't get the one with the camera cut out... :/

I already send an email about it - lets see.
So in your case the N900 goes all the way into the mount and is fully enclosed so that you can't open the keyboard?

Hello,

I just got mine today. Unfortunately I don't have the camera cutout...

Ask the seller to send u a new one. This one is obviously damaged and does not fit properly. In my case, the N900 is fully enclosed and you cannot open the keyboard once it is in the holder.

PS. I just contacted the ebay seller regarding the missing camera cutout.

Did the seller reply? Unfortunately I also bought 1 from the same seller in Hong Kong / China and waiting for it to arrive. No doubt it would not have the camera cut out either. What false advertisement! Let us know how you guys deal with it.

He said that the pic he used is for the HTC HD2 mount and the N900 mount does not have the camera cut out.

He is offering a 2.50 USD discount in order to keep me happy....why not..

I got my holder today. It had a camera cut out and looked exactly in the ebay description pictures! But wait, it's for the HD2, not N900 lol. On email with seller now...

Re: N900: Car Kit & Mounts

Anyone has the holder above (from ebay, WITHOUT the camera cutout) and is able to cut a hole for the camera (using a dremel or something)? Some pics would be appreciated. Because I'm afraid the notches on the back of the cradle will interfere with the camera position, and thus we won't be able to make a hole there.

TIA

ZoothornRollo - Look at RAM mounts at http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/Mo...8/Default.aspx .
I use it on my motorcycle and I assume there is a way to make a 7/8" motorcycle handelbar moungt fit a bicycle handelbar (I don't know what size handlebar a bicycle uses).

Hope that helps,
David

Is it possible to use the hardware keyboard with this mount? Also, any idea whether an otterbox which increases N900's thickness would fit?

The keyboard can`t be used whilst in the holder, also it is quite a snug fit, i've not seen an otterbox but i would guess it would make it too big to fit.

you have a 35 euro case and complain that a 40 euro car mount is expensive?;)

but no, it won't fit. The brodit - and i would think all device specific mounts - are designed for just the device. i have a Zagg invisible shield and doubt it would fit in the Brodit.
