Hi,

your package in Extras-testing is unlocked for promotion. Do you consider promoting it?

Re: QStarDict

Well, I am so sorry that I did not make it finally....

I tried almost all methods you guys mentioned in the past 4~5 hours. But I never made it. I even could not select dictionaries somehow since I never saw the "plus" in the config to select the dics.

Fortunatelly, I switched to MStarDict. With all the knowledge I got from QStarDict, I only spent like 10 mins to setup MStarDict with "speak" func.......

P.S. I AM a software developer. I used C, C++, .net & Java before. But I only did everything on Windows. That's why I could not make it???

Anyway, I must have missed something. There is only one thing left to me: to debug it line by line to see what's going on...........

But if any ppl like me, maybe, you should consider to give it up if you can not make it in the first 1 hour.

Do I look like a MStarDict developper??? !@#$%^&&*()

anyway, I dislike the QuestionableStarDict!!!!! It wasted me too much time!!!!!

Seriously, it only takes a couple of minutes to setup, so if you've spent more than 5 minutes without success then give up - don't waste another 55 minutes on it :)

Who knows ;)

I like qstardict's interface a lot more than mstardict's, everything is on one screen. Plus it has more features, plus you can double-click on a word in the definition and copy+paste into lookup to continue your lookup.

Re: QStarDict

There must be some bug or incompatibility with certain dictionaries. I also have for several hours unsuccessfully tried to make Qstardict see any of the dictonaries i downloaded from XDXF Repository. and i followed the wiki and the tips here to the letter. Very frustrating....

For me, references don't work at all. Nothing reacts. I don't have opera installed.

The setting icon works only when the plugin is checked, turned on, otherwise it is ignored. Does it help you?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two suggestions.
First, when nothing is typed, show unfiltered words list instead of useless "Words list".
Second, add a good way to scroll through long list (at least, stylus friendly, but maybe, finger friendly), so that a word could be scrolled to without typing anything.
Like six buttons nearby the list:
___
| |fast up
|___|
|__|medium speed up
|_|precise up
_
|_|precise down
|__|medium speed down
| |
|___|fast down
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
I frequently see formatting problems in articles. Like:

color="blue">n.

beginning of the line too far on the left and cannot be seen

article not displayed at all, though the word is in the list; just blank article viewer; as if it tried to open the article and couldn't;

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
In terminal, the following error is frequently printed (overwhelming the terminal):
QFSFileEngine:: open: No file name specified
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~

If possible, make the program less resource hungry. It heats the device somewhat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
Thanks for making the program.
After upgrading to PR1.3 pressing Settings "wrench" in Plugins tabs does not respond and I can not set path to dictionaries. Can it be general problem with introduction of QT4.7 or it is just my device?
Same here :(
Hope somebody will fix it again - it already broke on the last upgrade! FBergeron? :rolleyes:
On a positive note: mstardict didn't break, and it's problem with pulseaudio appears to be fixed in PR1.3, and since mstardict can read the dictionaries installed for qstardict, we are not completely without dictionaries now.
Yes, it works, in sense you can see settings of plugin, directory of dictionaries. Works as well as it did before update.
But still, images cannot be seen in the articles, and X Terminal prints multiple lines "QFSFileEngine::open: No file name specified".
Thanks, and best wishes!
I have same problem - trying to install newly build version of QStarDict requires libqt4_experimental packages. I haven't updated my packages, after apt-get update I installed new version of QStarDict and it works OK.
I have installed it and it works, thanks!
The dependence on libqt4-experimental, is that an oversight? Does it mean that some packages of the new release got overwritten?
EDIT: I can answer the last question myself - nothing got overwritten since the experimental libraries are installed in different directories. A different question instead: when a new qstardict version will depend on the final version, will we have to manually remove the experimental libraries?
Re: QStarDict
Good to know that the application is working again.
About the dependency to libqt4-experimental-dev now...
The control file for the packaging the application looks like this:
Code:
Source: qstardict
Version: 0.13.2-3
Section: user/office
Priority: optional
Maintainer: Alexander R <sbir@list.ru>
Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5), libqt4-dev, libqt4-experimental-dev, libglib2.0-dev, zlib1g-dev, libx11-dev, debhelper-maemo-package-icons (>= 0.0.2), maemo-optify | maemo-version (< 5.0)
Standards-Version: 3.8.0
Package: qstardict
Section: user/office
Architecture: any
Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}
Suggests: espeak
XSBC-Bugtracker: https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/?group_id=1199
XB-Maemo-Display-Name: QStarDict
Description: International dictionary written using Qt4
 QStarDict is a modern international dictionary written using Qt4.
 .
 It is a StarDict clone written with using Qt4. It can use StarDict DICT files as a word database for translation. QStarDict supports plugins.
As you can see, I have added libqt4-experimental-dev to Build-Depends.
My understanding was that this package should be installed only when downloading the source code, not when installing the application. I guess I was wrong. Anyway, I believe this is required only temporarily because qt-4.7 is still in beta and is not the default SDK. Eventually, this dependency will be removed in a future version of QStardict.
My understanding is that it shouldn't depend on a version of libqt different than the one that comes with PR1.3, am I right?
So shall we wait for a new package?
Thanks!!
As soon as the default Nokia SDK is qt-4.7, I will release a new package. For the moment, the default SDK is qt-4.6. According to this article, it should be updated in near future.
I think it's no big deal... However, if it really bothers too many people, I can try to release a new package without this dependency and see if it works as well.
I would better wait for the proper version that depends of Qt4.7 that comes with PR1.3.
It bothers me only in the way I have to download experimental version of what I already have native. You know, it might not screw up the system to have 2 versions of Qt4.7 but there can be a little bit of a mess. I'd prefer to avoid it.
And thanks for replies, good to know we aren't forgotten=)
This is very wrong, you should never depend on two versions of Qt simultaneously. Just resubmit the package with libqt4-dev dependency and it will be OK (the scratchbox SDK and autobuilder already have the Qt4.7 update installed).
FBergeron 2010-10-28 14:29
Re: QStarDict
When I updated my SDK, the qt was 4.6, not 4.7. Unless it has changed a few hours ago or that I didn't update it properly? Anyway, if the autobuilder uses qt-4.7, it should work so I will resubmit the package before the end of weekend.
The following steps fix Qstardict on PR1.3:
1. Uninstall qstardict
2. Remove/rename MyDocs/stardict folder
3. Reinstall
4. Should now work
If this does not work you may wish to delete the .config/qstardict and .qstardict folders in /home/user before reinstalling.
I've just updated and yes it does remove the experimental packages.
Since I installed PR1.3 OTA QStarDict stopped working (no words found when I do a lookup), however I just noticed that in QStarDict settings under Plugins there are 2 available: stardict and web, neither of them were enabled, I enabled stardict and now I'm able to lookup words again.
I have successfully updated to the new version (fb3) from fb2. Everything works, but the libqt4-experimental packages are not uninstalled.
It's easy enough, though, to uninstall (as root) by
Code:
apt-get autoremove
This gives
Code:
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libqt4-experimental-core libqt4-experimental-gui libqt4-experimental-xml
  libqt4-experimental-network libqt4-experimental-dbus
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libqt4-experimental-core libqt4-experimental-dbus libqt4-experimental-gui
  libqt4-experimental-network libqt4-experimental-xml
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 5 to remove and 36 not upgraded.
After this operation, 18,8MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
But that's an issue only for those who have installed the previous version from extras-devel (and anyway no big deal). I think the new version can and should go into extras-testing now.
Re: QStarDict
Recently, I have been testing different offline dictionary applications for Android and I have to say that QStarDict is far superior than any of them.
Thanks to the developers.
Anyway, I have my own set of feature request to improve usability:
- The "Words list" area should be dockable with a little arrow button. So it would be easier than resize the area.
- "Words list" title can be removed to save the screen space (asked before by sph).
- Swipe gesture to zoom in/out (increase/decrease font size) in the text area. That would be awesome!!
- At least, if not swipe gesture, add buttons to increase/decrease font size in the toolbar.
- The search icon seems odd to me, and redundant placed beside the word "Search".
Thanks again.
Hello,
I've recently installed qstardict for n900. I've downladed eng-jap and jap-eng dictionaries. They are working fine, but:
The japanese-english dictionary works only if if i write in Japanese (hiragana, katakana). The problem is I can only write in arabic.
So the only way for me to write in japanese is to copy japanese text from website etc.
I've downloaded some japanese fonts, but they only work in firefox, not in qstardict.
Any sollutions? I really need help
