But it doesn't save it after the next run of Catorise, does it?

Seems to be in extras-devel repository (for your own safety it would probably be wise to deactivate the devel repository from app manager after installing catorise gui and not to upgrade apps when extras-devel activated since versions there might have major bugs).

Or you can download .deb package here and install it by opening it with app manager.

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

After a crash and a reflash of my N900 the Catorise-app doesn't seem to function anymore: it doensn't group the icons / apps anymore.

Anyone know how to get this functioning again?

PS I tried deinstall / reinstall, but no luck.

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

Would it be possible to have an "Invisible" Category?

You'd use CatoriseGUI to put your unwanted Icons into this category, and they wouldn't show up in application screen anymore. In order to unhide them, just put them back into any other category.

I want to get rid of some of the build-in tools' icons because they clutter up the categories.

Arrancamos 2010-08-05 15:50

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

also could be hidden in that "invisible" category applications like "I'm here"

An _hidden category (like _root) would be trivial. I've still not had any contact from the CatoriseGUI author, so whether or not that tool would allow you to edit items into it, I've no idea.

A feature request in Bugzilla would be much appreciated:

Spent a long time manually looking for the icons for this. I would like to apply some custom ones, what is the file path?
Thanks Jaffa. Cool App.

Same ones as Application Manager:

Code:

/usr/share/themes/theme/backgrounds/app_install_category.png

I have the same problem! Bothe Catorise and catorise-gui installed, but the menu is normal. No categories at all. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Start ApMeFo.

Click De-activate.

Reboot.

Problem gone.

Just happened to find the solution last week - by accident ;-)

anyway to rename the categories i.e. location & navigation to JUST navigation?

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

I have a category called Others that was created by Garnet VM.

When trying to move other applications to this Others category using Catorise GUI I see there is no change at all. I can move any application to any category except to Others. Any clue?

It is not dealing with the shortcuts created by the WebOS Games Manager very well, they only show in the All folder (i can't find them on Catorise GUI either)

Yeah this is really irritating!

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

I think Catorise only triggers newly created .desktop files after installing a new application. Try to install something and then use Catorise GUI to put the new shortcuts in the section you want..

Where does the WebOS Game Manager put its shortcuts? Could this be an instance of #12023?

Could someone send me a .desktop file that it creates? I've no Pre games to test with (I'm assuming that they should go into Games ;-))

Where are the .desktop located?
/usr/share/applications/hildon
or
/home/user/.local/usr/share/applications/hildon

If it is the second case, then it's due to the bug mentioned earlier.

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

1 Attachment(s)
/home/user/.local/share/applications/hildon/brain challenge.desktop

here is the .desktop just in case

ivgalvez 2011-03-16 13:32

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

Yep, that's the problem.

Until that bug is fixed in Catorise or WebOS App Manager changes to create desktop files in /usr/share/applications/hildon you can just simply move the files to that directory.

clasificado 2011-03-16 13:41

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

i think that WAM runs in userspace. someone knows if catorize is still maintained?

Jaffa 2011-03-16 13:48

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

One thing which WebOS ... Manager should do is to add Categories=Game; to the .desktop files. However, I could also add support for the X-Maemo-Category it is using (despite there being a perfectly cromulent standard already)

This is created when no matching category can be found.

No idea about CatoriseGUI as I dunno who wrote it, never used it and they've never been in touch.

If you edit /opt/catorise/catorise.menu you can put anything you want in _root (to have it appear at the top-level) or in other. The format is pretty trivial :-)

I installed Catorise yesterday and found my cpu constantly between 10% and 20% whilst idle (even after reboot), previously it was between 2% and 4%...
After uninstalling catorise it returned to 2%-4%....
Is this a known issue/cost or just my device?

Thanks

Dan

Known issue - if you use conky you will (should) observe that the culprit in fact is hildon-desktop. Catorise triggers the problem but definitely is not the cause. Search around, as there is a fixed version of hildon-desktop available for pr1.3. I've lost track where - I am testing the CSSU and that provides a fixed version among other improvements.

Oops - just read that it occurs even after a reboot. Without using the menus at all? Reason I ask is that entering and leaving the menus is the trigger for the hildon-desktop bug.

Thanks for the quick answer and explanation handaxe.
I probably rebooted and then went into the folders (can't actually remember)...I'll have a look around for the fix if I decide to try it again

EDIT...Had a look around - too much conflicting/confusing info for me, various links to different files claiming to be for pr1.3... Think i'll just stick to the standard app view until i have more time

Amen to the confusion :) Or try the CSSU. It is really quite stable and livens / freshens up the n900 experience and each and every eye on the development for bugs helps.

Yes, I probably will at some point. The problem is though that my n900 is working perfectly and I have no issues with it... and with all the settings and mods i've done so far I'm loathed to chance it! :D The temptation will no doubt get the better of me soon though.

this is really a required feature - i have too many application in one category which should split between its sub categories.

Subfolders (and subsub...subfolders) start to become quite a necessity when you got more than just a few things installed.

0.9.0 on its way to autobuilder:
  • Keeps track of changes to prevent doing work unnecessarily. Since apt/HAM often initiate triggers unnecessarily, this should save time when installing new apps; and definitely speed up upgrades.
