Hey guys, i'm experiencing massive battery drain in last week or two, so i installed battery eye to see what's really happening. You can see the result in the attached image, quite a drain ain't it (half of the power over the night - the device was idle).. Anyone has a clue what my problem might be? I now uninstalled all the apps that i'm not using and i'll report if it's any better.. If any one has any suggestions i'll be more than happy to hear them.

Every now and then I notice that on my phone the pulseaudio daemon starts using a lot of resources even when idle after some audio activity (phone call, flash audio etc.). Easy to check using, e.g., htop. The process is typically in the top 3. That eats the battery very fast. I take care of the problem by running "killall pulseaudio" as root in the terminal. Would be nice though, if a firmware update took care of this problem for good...

You can get a bit more precise with your pulse killing and go for:
killall tonegend That should do the trick. Occasionally, I get the urge to: killall browser killall browserd |

well i uninstalled around 5 apps that i wasn't using (most of them i installed recently) and my battery drain problem is (for now) solved :)

it seems a MAJOR portion of my battery consumption (and n900 getting hot sometimes) is due to the im protocols...
i kept them offline today and i've had my 3G data connection on almost all day and my battery is still WELL over 60% charged. when normally i need to re-juice by midday (fyi my mfe is set to always on) i remember reading about this before (something about the protocols not being in sync or efficient when sending packets back to the server?) but i dont remember if a solution is (will be) available. i usually have skype, ovi, jabber, gtalk, msn(pecan) online and nothing from extras or devel can anyone offer any insight on whether my battery life should be that short with im protocols online? much appreciated. |

Mode switchapplet is nice too. I stay on 2g most of the time, eats less power for IM-type loads.

Hey guys,
I made my own thread with regards to battery consumption, and whether the email app of MfE could connect automatically, so my internet connection was not always on and draining battery. Anyway, I did some testing with various connection methods and some things that I may leave running in the background. It was interesting to note that in my tests there was no difference in consumption between 3G and 2G internet connection Hope someone finds this info useful. I reach quite good battery life with recent N900 setting with over clocked and under voltage kernel (Titan's maemo25) + couple other settings.
More stuff about settings can be found from Overclock the N900 thread, post #3266 In addition to kernel settings, I use AutoDisconnect, 512bit/min & 2min. Automatic connection to Internet is on, but polling time is set 60min. So even night time it is polling email (2 account) once per hour. During nighttime I'm running at 125MHz or 500MHz. 95% of time it is in 125MHz. During daytime 500-850MHz. Therefore battery drain is much higher after 10 o'clock (includes several calls and constant work with device). Phone is using only GSM and WLAN when available. Drop during 10h is ~8% (or less) -> ~0.8%/h. Theoretically that would mean 125h (5.2d) standby time with current idle activity. not sure if this update has fixed the battery consumption or not as msn pecan has just died for everyone for some reason :P any news on the bug yet felipec?
