I'll give Tweego another try. It was missing si many features (like search) when I tried it last it had no chance.

Edit: Nope, it is still not usable for my purposes. Not close. It needs multiple saved searches. The ability to search for #N900, for example.

Help, please?

There's a bug in PR1.2 (fixed already - awaiting the next public release) that means every first letter in the textboxes on the login screen is always a capital, including the password box (which you can't see what you've written in.)

I reported some similar issues in PR1.1 in the TweeGo bug tracker.

Type the first letter of your password twice, and then delete the first letter of your password - that should work.

(Yes, I know that's a bit bonkers.)

Maybe the TweeGo authors can set something on the textbox to turn off auto-complete and stop it behaving like that?

Ah that worked, thanks!

Another vote for auto-login. Get rid of the 'logout' button in the place of the close one already. Nobody wants to log out, specially when they marked the 'remember me' check box. No other twitter client that I remember approach logging in and out like that. (also, check boxes should be square :P)

Even if I know it makes no difference, I unconsciously tap the task switcher button to then hit the X to close it. (bonus: this avoids the 4 (four!) step procedure to close it through its own interface) (Logout > confirm > exit > confirm)

Also this, not even counting the inconvenience, it's a security flaw. It recorded my password in the user auto complete dictionary. Seems Maemo doesn't treat that as a proper password field, maybe look into that?

And one last request: optify it please, just noticed that the executable is stored on /usr/bin. Seems silly since it can run from everywhere, I just edited the .desktop file to point to /user/home/tweego and it works normally.

No auto-login yet, but we'll put this option in version 0.4 for sure.

About the logout, we actually put it there thinking in user that don't want to close the application, but to come back to the login screen to use another account.

And about the optify, I didn't know that TweeGo was in /usr/bin, but I talked to Rodrigo and he told that he'll optify it to the next version.

About the line edits, we always had problems with it (it's the reason why TweeGo is not running in N8x0), I fixed the auto-uppercase and forced no auto complete to the password but it still auto-completing the password sometimes.

Sorry to hear that, the main problem is that we don't actually have space to the search in the screen, but that will be solved in the next versions.

We already finished all the features and the visual for this version, and now we are testing for bugs.

I can say that it's around 90%, so will be real soon.

How the testing goes? Is it ready?

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

I don't know if this is just me, but none of the things at the top of the page which should be links actually work.

I mean where you have your username in the top corner, beneath that it says "Following (number). Followers (number). Tweets (number)." For me, none of these are actually links. Clicking them does nothing, and it would be nice if they did.

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Uh, this needs to be optified. It currently sits in /usr/bin at around 620kb? Why not a simply symlink since it should be a dynamically linked binary.

We already finished the testing!

I already talked to Rodrigo and he said that he'll upload the new version tomorrow!

They are not links :/ It only show some user information.

I know that is a lot of unused space on the app, so for the next version, we changed the "following", "followers" and "tweets" for images and gave the top bar a new functionality.

I believe that Rodrigo will fix it for this new version.

Hope you enjoy the new version and keep commenting, your feedback is very important for us!

is it out yet?? pls pls pls!!

Also, is there autorefresh in this version??

anapospastos 2010-07-16 18:35

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

I just updated tweego in version 0.3.

+Pros
is fast
nice details
very good opening of images
navigation through hardware keyboard
auto refresh available

-Cons
navigation through touch doesnt work
trying to write capital letters in greek language but it writes capital english
writing with virtual keyboard is not always possible
it would be nicer if our tweets say "updated via tweego" and not via API

Gratz for your effort and keep going:)

I can't download it :(
The archive is currently being updated.

//edit : ok, managed to download it.
Great speed improvement !
But why the touchscreen scrolling is not working anymore ?
That makes it almost unusable for me.

tnhh 2010-07-16 19:43

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Like everyone else, I think the new version looks good but is unusable. I can't use the touchscreen nor the keyboard to scroll through tweets. Shame since it is very fast. I look forward to trying the next version.

anapospastos 2010-07-16 19:54

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Tapping on your picture avatar you can change it. I dont know if it works because the whale is ready to appear as always in twitter.

edit: autorefresh is not working right? I thought that it was an addition in new version.

NokiaRocks 2010-07-16 20:06

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Auto refreshing isn't working for me too.
Maybe they should have been testing a bit more :P

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Doesn't scroll for me either, the previous versions were very nice, time to roll back.

planetf1 2010-07-16 20:46

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

unfortunately similar comments
* i see no refresh button or more
* no auto refresh
* i cant scroll down to view more tweets
* no dm option

unfortunately this makes it completely unusable and a regression from the last version. shame as once a tweet is selected the ui is very slick

planetf1 2010-07-16 20:48

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

just realise cursor down does work. not usable though

hotzigetty 2010-07-16 21:12

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

damn!! the app loads much much much faster.. like the split between timeline and replies... autorefresh? cant find that option anywhere.. cant scroll down at all.. the geolocation option popup is really really neat!!

Hey guys, I think we found the problem and we are trying to solve this now.

Sugestion: tap the region where are the avatar, followers, tweets, etc. open a config window?

tnhh 2010-07-17 06:12

New version works much better; I can scroll again! Thanks!

New version is nice. I only still have problems with the time. In the previous version it showed the time off a different time zone. Now I online see 1 January.

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

One bug wrt geolocation. On the old one (0.3) it would give u the option between IP and GPS and when you choose GPS, it'd say error. On the new one its quite nice that it autoselects IP and shows lat long data. but in both cases it consistently get them wrong!! at least now im not in the middle of the pacific, but im 10km off from my position... better than 10000 km i guess!! :)

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

One more issue.. Some tweets in the timeline are missing!

colm.smyth 2010-07-17 16:44

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

To the developer,

Is there anyway you can make this available through the application manager so that when ever you update it we get notified. I love the N900 and im by no means tech stupid but I dont know enough about terminal language to be comfortable using it like many. The app is so good it deserves to be easily down-loadable.

Next, and this is for app developers in general, not that longer number press is working on N900 please ensure that the app allows for this, its just easier.

Also, please can someone post the link to download the latest build of Tweego.

Cheers

go to app manager and launch update

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Iīve just update my TweeGo and I love this new release.

Now, we have the button "Open Image" that shows pictures posted on twitpic withou need to open the browser. Thatīs awesome!!!

But somestime, the picture keeps open in background, and I canīt click on other tweet to see another picture.

And I couldnīt find the auto refresh option. How do I enable this feature?

mikhail_ramalho 2010-07-17 22:34

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Hello everyone!

Well, we solved the scroll issue but unfortuneatly, we had to remove the gps support for the location :/

Some technical explanation:
If you see in source code in TweeGo Repository, more specifically the TweeGo.pro (line 72), to enable the maemo 5 features, like the kinetic scroll, gps support and the yellow banner notification, we try to look if there is the location.so file (not the best, we'll change to the maemo 5 OS flag), and when we send the source to be compiled in the maemo extras-devel (we can't compile and upload a file, the process is done by the maemo server, for security reasons) it doesn't find the .so :/

This caused all the problems, the scroll, gps and yellow banner weren't working (most of you notice only the scroll). To "fix" this, we remove the condition, but it wouldn't compile again because of the missed liblocation (which allow us to acess the gps), so we removed the gps method for location (again you can only get your ip location, usually the town center).

So, after all the tests, we couldn't predict that this could happen, let's just blame the maemo compiler :P

I believe that we can solve this using the new Qt Mobility for maemo, there lots of examples explaining how to use the gps so maybe won't take long untill the next version (0.3.1) be released with the gps support.

That's it guys, later I'll try to answer your questions.

(I just realize that TweeGo should have a blog where we can make posts like this one).

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Thx 4 the new release.
What's about the auto refresh, shouldn't it work in this version ?

igorlt 2010-07-18 16:53

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

it'd be great if pictures posted on Yfrog and Tweetphoto have that "open image" button, just like the app shows on twitpic photos.

also, there's a bug in this feature that keeps the image open, even when back to timeline.

planetf1 2010-07-19 05:23

Re: TwitterBox is now TweeGo!

Thanks for shipping the minor update to fix touch -- even if it did mean gps is removed

I thought I'd summarise my thoughts below in a hopefully constructive way. I should say I really like the smoothness of the UI, scrolling etc - definately a lot of potential here for a great client, which is very much appreciated

- Standard twitter functionality:

* DM (show/send)
* Follow "reply" reference train to show a discussion thread (I often want to do this)
* Display any "referenced" users in a tweet & show user info, tweet history, follow,@mention etc (this is a way I decide whether to follow someone)
* Fix GPS (does it need a sanity check... I know it's currently broken and reporting 0,0)
* Add caching - does it already? I notice switching between timeline and @mentions results in small delay. More concerned about API call limits too
* Add new style retweet
* Add manual refresh/refresh configuration timers

- A few buggy areas

* Handle network coming/going more reliably -- am finding the client locks up. somehow it needs to retry/interrupt

- More general feature suggestions
* Add photo upload (twitpic, yfrog etc) (although personally I'm using posterous mostly now)
* Add facebook timeline and/or "plugin" ability to support other social networks
* Add gowalla/foursquare checkin
* Auto-login

- Something I thought about and actually think maybe shouldn't be implemented

* support streaming API -- keeping a constant data connection, certainly on GPRS/UMTS could be very power hungry, regular refresh better. But maybe on wifi? but that would mean dynamic switching

I know that's a large list, hope it was helpful to list out!
