Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
um.... ok complete noob question coming up.......
How do I actually get geochaches on this thing? Do I need to download them? Where do I put them? I've been round in circles trying to get something on AGTL but the only method I could actually use was to get the location of a cache from the web then enter that location's coordinates as a target. Can't find/load any caches at all, even when I've put a target in myself. So there is something I'm not doing, but what? Other than that, the direction and gps and map etc are all excelent, if only I could put some gpx files or something in there, and also perhaps use different maps it would be a 10 out of 10 app. |

Using different map types in AGTL on Maemo Depending on the map you want to add it could be a bit tricky to find correct format and URLs, but it's possible. I've succesfully added Czech topo maps from from one tourist server, so now it's almost perfect ;-) |

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Version 0.8.0.5 will be in the repositories in a few minutes.
Changes: - Automatic updates: AGTL connects to search for parser updates on each startup. To disable this, go to options. No personal data is being transferred. - New Tools Menu: Roman numbers, ROT13 and heading calculation (aka. coordinate projection) - Improve waypoint display on the map - Add connection detection: Faster map display in offline mode - Fix parsing for multicaches - Filter double coordinates from some lists For users of 0.8.0.3, the parser update is available via the in-app update feature. |

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Once again, your votes are needed to get the version 0.8.0.5 into the "extras" repository!

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
We only need two more votes to get 0.8.0.5 in extras: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...ing/0.8.0.5-0/

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Hey webhamster.
Any news? Just stumbled a few times about that... Logs are not downloaded anymore (currently downloaded logs vanished). And the status is not updated anymore (which led me to a few unsuccessful (cause already archived) searches :( ). This tool is one of the most used apps on my gadget. I really hope, You keep track of groundspeak's changes... Thanks a lot. |

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Hey zement.
Noticed the update this morning, but for me it does not load all the logs. It fetches up to Nov/Dec 2010, but newer ones are omitted for caches for which I already had downloaded the details. And still the status (archived - normal) is not updated accordingly. This means, a cache which details I had downloaded in Oct 2010 (state normal), has been archived meanwhile on geocaching.com, but when I download the details again in AGTL, I still see its state as normal and seek for nothing. Does anyone have the same problems or is it only me? |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Hi Peterlein - Try to update the cachestatus via map->download overview and afterwards download the cachedetails.

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Hello zement.
Thanks for the reply. I was aware of that workaround (sorry for not mentioning it in my former post). Noticed that some time earlier accidentally. BUT, this trick does not work anymore. I still have those caches listed as 'normal', although they are 'archived'. As all my notes are deleted on optimizing the database, I do not want to test this without knowing it helps... |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Hello, anyone else got problem with display caches on map in AGTL?
From end of the month April AGTL show all caches, when i check "hide found geocaches" and still display everything caches on map. I am PM on Geocaching.com. Ty for advice and sorry for my english ;) |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Thanks for the update that solves the problems with geocaching.com :)
Is it possible to disable the espeak voice that starts with the app? |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
once again thx to webhamster for the fast agtl support!!
i like the new tools section. |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
will there be anymore updates for AGTL? I recently got into Geocaching and I love this app. It is more accurate than all my friends phones :).

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Thanks for a great tool! :) I'm new to Geocaching, and AGTL was the first program that I tried, and I still use it. Lately though I've had quite some problems with it. First it told me to change the language to English on the website, which it already was, this was fixed recently though, probably in the latest release. Now it complains about my username and password though, and I've checked and rechecked it a couple of times.
Any ideas on how to solve this? |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Yes, You need to reenter Your credentials and restart application.
To be on the safe side, do the following: - set user and password to blank (no letters at all) and close/restart AGTL - then enter Your user name and password (be careful to not use a capital for the first letter of password, as Your N900 could be configured that way). And close/restart AGTL again. Solved. |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Thank you!
I didn't realise that it capitalized my password as well... (I saw that it tried to capitalize my username and changed that.) Now it works again! Thanks for a great app, and keep up the good work! |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
You are welcome.
But just for clarification, as it may could be read from Your last post: all credits go to webhamster, who delivered the most used and loved app on my N900. I hope, he is keeping his habit providing us with updates for geocaching.com's (bad) attitude to change their website from time to time :) THX to webhamster |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
It's been quiet here for a while.
I'm running 0.8.0.7 with parser ver.14 But cannot load new maps today. Anybody else has this issue? |

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
I have been using AGTL lately a lot and I like it very much, except for some reason it seems to drain the battery dry so fast that I can only use it for a few minutes at a time.
I then noticed the program always has a very high CPU usage: even when AGTL is in the background, the screen is turned off, etc. it's still using up 25-30% CPU. I did a comparison with eCoach and it doesn't seem to have a visible effect in cpu usage when it's on background or the screen is turned off... This seems like a rather big bug, I dont think there is any reason the program would need to use up so much CPU when it's not rendering anything (ie. the phone is in my pocket)? If anyone has taken a look at the source, would it be easily possible to just add a sleep into some rendering/processing loop when the screen is off/the app is not on the foreground? |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
The high cpu use started to annoy me so I took a look at it myself. It would seem a lot of the cpu use is caused by the drawing in gtkmap.py __expose_event. This function is called once per second when the gps fix updates and does some drawing regardless if the screen is off, the windows is on the background, etc... I know nothing about gtk/hildon so I "fixed" it for myself by changing the GPS update rate from 1 second to 5 seconds in gpsreader.py. This dropped the cpu use considerably.
Another constant cpu hog appeared to be in threadpool.py. I dont know why but the thread run loop there causes a constant cpu use, I made a crappy fix by calling time.sleep(1) if the _request_queue is empty. I didnt notice this causing noticeable changes in the app usability. I also changed CONCURRENT_THREADS from 10 to 5. With these changes, the cpu use dropped from >30% to ~3%. These are pretty ugly "fixes", hopefully the author could implement something similar but properly made :) |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
Thanks again for a great app for Maemo!! I don't seem to get hints downloaded (I'm running 0.8.0.7) so should there be a parser update? I can of course check the link but it is not as handy as checking it directly from the AGTL cache description.

I also do not know much about python (expect the spelling and pronounciation ;)). I tried to check Your changes and found, that CONCURRENT_THREADS in osm.py did not change my CPU usage, neither did the sleep in the threadpool.py (and there is no CPU hog in the loop, as there is timeout after poll_interval (5sec). But at first I also thought so.). BUT the GPS update interval is the one (so call of gtkmap), which makes the CPU busy. I changed the interval to 2s and I am under 6-10%) and happy :) |
Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool
grundsprech update again!
now i notice minor errors with logfile parsing (timestamps). just4info edit: is there a way to use google maps (satellite view)? |
