Because Ari Jaaksi knows what's involved with running an RC, in fact he's probably expected to. Look at the threads here with an official release, now imagine some of those same people running stuff that isn't yet "stable."

The tone here is bad enough as it is, I don't think allowing public RCs would make things any better.

Hard to say. At this point I could see it encouraging tightened policy, loosened policy, or no change at all. I'm betting on an official "we recommend against this" statement followed by no real change-- and a firing in China. ;)

I am just wondering how bad this is looking for Nokia...There is no communication from them on the firmware and people already uploading the firmware...The next Meego product will be taken with a grain of salt by all n900 people(if they plan to take it)..

works perfectly, actually on it right now writing this comment. fm transmitter works perfectly.

long button press gives numbers aswell.

touch screen is much more responsive. scrolling feels much nicer.

Guys this is my first post as I just got my N900 from HK which was released on May 1st. I don't know much at all about linux but i think this is no joke. My "about product" states Version: 10.2020.12-9 so I guess that's whatever PR1.2?

I was on a HTC HD2 on a cooked ROM which is ALOT faster than this N900. What's the best way to get it out of its sluggishness. Can someone point me to the right direction?

Again: this was NOT an official or even remotely sanctioned release. It was pulled, probably by an employee, from an internal company repository and released to the wild without authorization. That's not a reflection on Nokia but rather on the individual responsible.

Rest assured there will be communications soon enough.

Torrent working great! I am at my dads right now and i do all the techie stuff at my moms so i am downloading using transmission now in fear this thread will close and ill have to really wait. and will flash tommorrow depending on the results of this thread tonight

No clue. Nokia tends to not say much publicly about such things.

And I worked for the company, supporting the earlier Maemo devices. I can tell you there are consequences for violating policy.

If this is an unofficial release, as apparently it is, how come moderators are here talking about that it's against Nokia's policies to leak something like this, someone might be fired, etc - YET the thread is not locked and deleted?

I understand the difference between an open sourced community and Nokia but taking into consideration that Nokia pays for this site and the close ties I am rather surprised that this thread is not gone by now.

Because this site does not enforce Nokia policy. Users are free to discuss what they want, even if that includes loading a leaked RC on their device. The onus is on Nokia to enforce their own policy and ensure future leaks don't happen.

I considered it better to leave the thread open and moderate the discussion. There is ample precedent here.
