Why is this so damn bugged? How did this get in Ovi store? Cant even play Music, it crashes everytime...
E: Now it doesn't even start up.

I know, there is somewhere in this thread an instruction how to fix this by editing a file or so. But I dont wan't to read trough 200 post, why don't you just make a bugfix for this?

Edit: Found it on page 18 on top - thanks for that.

I really love this app. I've been waiting for this kind of app ever since I got my N900. One problem i have with it is that it loses the album art when I close the app and it loads it again when I open it again.

Hi all,

I am Mihail, from Instinctiv. I saw in some of the posts that some of you cannot use the main menu for the phone (with the available connections, profile changes, clock, etc.). The issue is that this menu is not showing in portrait mode. I am trying to find out how to fix it. I will let you know if I have more information.

Thanks and regards,
Mihail

Hi, fuyoh,

Do you have more information about what exactly is happening when the application is crashing? I appreciate your help about this issue! :)

Thanks and regards,
Mihail

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

It doesn't crash at all for me, though it does soak up a good chunk of the CPU just to run it.

On the plus side when I select an artist it is able to play all albums by that particular artist, the built in media player makes you pick a single album at a time. I think that's about my only gripe, otherwise it's all good : )

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Loving this app, it is a little bit slow sometimes but I think it's because of caching new thumbnails.

Also having rough scrolling experiences, but I think I read you guys are working on this :)

Unfortunately I can't use this as my main media player without landscape mode and playlists though...

Can you guys please tell me how to donate?

3rd time asking now :P

Love the app design, but i think is not usable at least for me, is sloooow as hell! scrolling the album list is painful, 100% CPU usage, may be because of album art scan? hope they fix it, and we finally will have a superb portrait music player.

The CPU usage in the starting of the player is because it checks the memory cards for added or deleted songs. We are working to improve this.

We are trying to improve the performance of the player. The landscape mode is also in our TODO list.
About the donations - thank you for the suggestions, but as Peter said, the player is free. :)))

Thanks and regards,
Mihail

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

But landscape looks fine, it just refuses to stay there. If one goes to exposee, the player reverts to landscape and it looks quite fine. Don't know if the controls still work or anything, because it can't convince it to stay like that.

Also, nice player, nice finish, if only it could edit ID tag it'd be perfect.

Oh, and, the album art things is a very, very nice touch.

An excellent app.

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Landscape should be like the Media Player with art on the left side.

Anway, all I want is the following feature then it's all good:

1. Video support
2. Playlist + repeat mode
3. Landscape mode option
4. Lyric fetching (optional)
5. And of course...bug FREE.

Oh yeah, lyrics.

I'd settle for embedded lyrics, if they are synchronized.

I think any respectable player who has the ability to display lyrics should have an option to correct them!

Regarding the video support, my advice for the developers is to stay focused on the main purpose of this application! It's better to have a reliable and fully customisable music player than an application who can do many things but none at full capacity!
I think video handeling should be discused when there will be nothing to do regarding this audio player, when all the capabilities of a decent player were added!
And to be sincere, there are enough video players in development!
Still looking forward for:
- playing by browsing folders
- downloading cover by request
- equallizer
- repeat function
- even id-tag's editor
- landscape ui, for the car holders
....

This could be the best and popular audio player for maemo, like is winamp for windows. And not to remember all the winamp audio options. By the way... Thinking at winamp, the application can handle video files but it's not something desirable, it's more like a pain in the ***. A really valuable application should focus on a straight direction.
Audio Player - that must be the INSTINCTIV way!

Cheers!

I found one bug. When a song is playing and the screen is locked you can't change the volume without having to unlock the phone. I tried this with the default media player and I had no problems.

I very much agree with this! There's no lack of decent video players and there's very little Instictiv could do to differentiate itself. Instictiv's strength is its UI but that's not really an issue when playing video... Plus, adding video have a negative impact in performance, loading times, CPU and ram usage for thumbnailing, etc. which is something that must be avoided at all cost. Please focus on the music player first!

Haha, no we're still here. Loved your post, +1'd everything you mentioned on our internal todo list :) We're still a super small team so we have to be somewhat disciplined on when we goof off and chat with you guys :p. I know companies big and small hire dedicated customer service people but I think there's something to be said for having us devs be in touch with our users directly. It helps us be more responsive to user requests (plus, we love doing it ;)). The downside, is we might be a little less responsive.

Don't you wish someone from Nokia was as responsive as Peter and the Instinctiv team? There wouldn't be half the unrest if Nokia decided to have a couple of dedicated N900 and other device members here to publicly answer genuine concerns.

Well done Instinctiv - you're doing a great job and your customer service and responsiveness is a joy. :)

please somebody. help me! it just wont start! (yes i've read the thread, albeit in a rather scrambled order!) i have tried installing, uninstalling, done autoremove and clean inbetween, using ovi and instinctiv.com debs, someone suggested making a desktop shortcut, someone else suggested uninstalling other media players, i've uninstalled a lot of random stuff i can live without. change my oc from 1000 to 900. it still wont work at all!

i dont know the xterm run commands, so perhaps that will help?
and if someone could perhaps tell me where to find the log and have the grace to look at it for me if i post it?

hope someone here can help! i want this app so bad! :)

*Must already have rootsh installed*

sudo gainroot <enter>
apt-get remove libavcodec52. <enter>

while the application is installed
(Also, application manager has to be closed)

aw man i am so impressed with this player! okay its a bit laggy just now, but i'm sure that will improve with time. the album art is wicked, it downloaded almost all of my album covers despite some prwtty shoddy metadata, it clean and simple and looks good.

ps. theres an n900 coding competition running here that you may be interested in, since i think you have a winner already!

Well, we're still in debug and polish mode so new features progress is still a lot slower than it will be once we fix the major issues. To that end, for anyone willing to do some more beta testing we have a released on http://instinctiv.com/b.deb . It doesn't contain any new features but should contain a few optimizations and bug fixes. If you install it please let us know what your experiences are with it. ~ PB

Haus3r 2010-07-14 15:57

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Just installed it! So far so good! No new features I can make out, but it feels a lot more responsive now:
  • Album View is a lot smoother now - Great!
  • Song Skip+Seek is a lot quicker now. Great+1
  • Startup is still a bit slow. Takes about 5 seconds. BUT: not an issue for me.
  • CPU workload > no idea if that has changed. Can anyone comment?
  • Both top 2 shuffles still give me "Analyzing - check back later". No idea what's going on here?...

This really is turning into something awesome! Thanks Peter, you guys are making excellent progress.

Still waiting for added letters in library for quick access to song/album/artist names. At the moment it's a mission to find the right songs when you have many :) The rest of the requested features can wait!

puiradu 2010-07-14 17:03

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

I confirm that the scrolling is smoother!
All the Shufle options are working. I don't know what to say about Instinctiv Shuffle and Play songs similar to.... the selected songs are strangely choosed! I really don't need to much those options! I can't comment too much. Only the smoothness is what I saw different! I hope that the new features will be added soon! Thanks for the involvement!

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

This is starting to become a very useful app. The update does seem to scroll more smoothly. What would be nice would be for it to work in Landscape mode and have the ability to slide open the keyboard and accept a character and go straight to the start of that letter. Select M on the keyboard and go straight to artists or songs or albums beginning with M.

Would also like to see Genres.

Keep up the great work guys.

Yes on the letters, but why not have it like for the I-Craps with the letters on the side? Since we already have such a nice looking app in front of nice, let's improve it by adding nice useful navigation elements to it!

Yes on Genres.

Yes on keeping the great work up!

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

I'm running the latest version (0.3.21) Honestly, I'm not seeing much difference in performance between this and my previous version (0.3.14). But I have solved my primary issue. None of the tracks on my memory card we're showing in the library. I believe this was just because the card was so full. I literally only had a few kB of available space. I deleted some files and presto. It looks like Instinctiv needed about 100kB of space to write some directories/files there. Now that it has, it's happy, and the tracks from my xD card are showing in the player's library.

zvogt 2010-07-15 04:34

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Actually this program seems to need even more space than I originally thought. I clear off a little bit of space, and it will fill up whatever I give it. Then I am unable to launch the program after it hits that ceiling. The only way to recover is free up more space AND delete the Instinctiv folder it created (just freeing up more space is not enough). I'm not sure I'm 100% on board with the design decision to create these multiple Instinctiv folders in multiple locations, rather than one centralized location. And I'm not a fan of forcing me to give up real estate on my xD card. But I like the program enough to give Pete and the boys the benefit of the doubt, for now.

zvogt 2010-07-15 05:27

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Ok, I think I've hit a plateau. Looks like, in my case, Instinctiv needed about 6MB of space on my xD card before I stopped having problems. It appears this program's space usage is no longer climbing. YMMV.

altorn 2010-07-15 05:56

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

how about adding a by-folder shuffling so you shuffle songs inside one folder instead of your WHOLE library. has this been added yet?
