I'm sure this hack will still work in the next firmware. As long there is a PS Jailbreak team then there is no way this will stop working. Just take a look at the iPhone Jailbreak Team.

Man. I want that PS3. You can still sell it for over $1000 bucks. =)

This is like when the first CFW came out on the PSP.
PSP scene is still going strong and can play online still.
So I hope PS3 gets good updates to the jailbreak/BM.

I really like the thought of having all my games on the hdd and not needing to swap out bluray discs everytime I want to play a different game. It also allows me to keep my original games in mint condition. Also, games load much faster from the hdd.

So I hope a real stealth mode appears or a full disable mode appears so that if I do want to play games online, I can hide all traces of it. Then when I want it, re-enable it again to play games offline or run homebrew apps etc.

btw, Sony can block MAC addresses while not banning the PSN account still. They have not started banning MAC addresses due to jailbreak yet. But they have been doing this already for people who abuse the system by having multiple PS3's with same PSN accounts to downloading multiple copy of the bought games etc.

In saying that, I believe there is no current "code" on the PS3's 3.41 firmware or games that is able to detect and send Sony the information of the existence of Jailbreak or Backup manager. But it's best to use backup manager with "stealthed" IDs to at elast ensure their server side cannot detect the BM's default non-existent ID.

1. You need the correctly patched version of psfreedom.ko for your kernel. (stock or power)
2. When you press load for a game in BM, it is "normal" behaviour to return back to the home screen.
3. But when you return, under GAME, you will see the game you want to load as the disc.
(You need to have a bluray game inside the PS3, obviously a different game to what you are trying to load)

You need the N900 to be plugged in.

Yes, you can remove the n900 once you are in the backup manager (possibly earlier) and it will continue to work.

I have absolutely no idea about this lol. I only tested it to see if my PS3 sees the Installation Package and that's it. I certainly wouldn't want my PS3 to be banned, so I'm waiting for the confirmation with regards to this banned issues in the future. If it competely untracible then I'll do it :D

you remove the game data from your system, then back it up, then run it. it should install the game data off the backup, from what i know.

LOL this is not a show an entertainment site.
Anyway, what if SONY really is going to banned every one who uses this? But how are they managed to track this down? lol Unless they banned the N900 from plugging into the PS3 perminently. They can banned the USBs but as long the N900 is not the USB with those chips builtin. They can't just banned all the N900.

The only way for SONY to find out is via Online Software update. And planting a seed of virus inside their own system to constantly sending information back to the head quarter.

But this is human right violation, stealing private or collecting people information without their acknowledgement is illegal.

I think SONY won't win against Jailbreaking, but they will win against the xJailbreaker USBs device company. Otherwise SONY has to suing NOKIA for created the N900 with USB slave mode. lol

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To

Anyway, I got the games and bought the damn games, I wanted the games to be able to run off my HDD, I hate the loading time, and I am worrying about my Blu-Ray lense.

I got 500GB in my 60g PS3 and yet this jailbreaking things would help me keeping my game safe from scratching.

Also I'm pre-ordered the GT5 collector Edition, I have already paid $100NZD in cash and trade-in 2 of my games and still owing $40NZD.

So I'm not really pirating, nor you guys are. We just want our gaming experience to be better, rather than just play waiting game while the damn game loading.

Don't you guys agreed with me?

I do agree with you but it’s all up to Sony if they agree with us?? it’s going to be obvious that people will be get banned as if they have hacked there systems remember Xbox they banned more them 2million users for hacking into their systems. Really best thing to do i think is buy a second PS3 and use that one for online that’s if online matters to you?? Also as Sony roll out new firmware’s the PS3 is going to just get better, and as I have hacked my PS3 im never going to go online with it Ever, until I get my second PS3 it’s not worth the getting banned by Sony..

Yeah I agreed, but how would they manage to do this?
If you don't play the game online or connect to the internet and do not sign into the PSN store while playing the game then they won't know about it. I am sure that XBOX 360 users got banned because they are playing the game online. I'm not going to get another PS3 lol, I don't even have space to put it on my desk. All the precious space is belonging to my Rare species 60G PAL PS3. I dedicated all the free air flow and constantly wiping it with the microfire clothe to keep the dust off it.

I would consider buying another PS3 only if it gone below the 250NZD marks. Buying another PS3 is more expensive than buying the game :(

I've been using homebrew on my PS3 for over 2years now (to Play PS2 backup games) and Sony didn't really do anything to it :).
The reason is obvious that Not many people have access to get it to work, but this Jailbreak is a serious new threat to SONY. They have lost billions on promoting and selling the console since launch. But they are starting to making a bit of profile to recovered the lost and yet this hack is found during the time that they are trying to regain the stability in the industry.

GT5 is going to be sick, but this jailbreak will deappreciating the work of the GT5 developer, they spent over 5years to make this game. I actually preorder this game without hesitation, because I think Polyphonic deserves my hard earning cash. Even though it's quite over priced in New Zealand. :)

On the other hand why don't we just buy another HDD and do a hot swaping whenever we want to play stuff online :)

If the jailbreak installed game onto the internal drive, then why not swap it with another one? one for offline and one for online. Back up the setting and restore it to each hdd :)

So we have 2 version of HDD to use for 2 occasions.

Yeah, the lense issue is rather problematic with the PS3 FAT models.
But it should have been better if this will make SONY reconsider about making game that will run from HDD instead. And use minimal lense to seek as much as possible after the installation. For example, loading it with serial code like PS2, each game can have serial number code scrambled in the start of the section. And each installed game have to have a unique code. But this will come down to problem when people lending your games lol.

Oh well. scrambled this and redraw the scenarios.

Yeah Agreed 100% GT5 Rocks and its worth every penny I’m going to pre-order the collector Edition this week, let me get this right so when we jailbreak our systems we only hack the harddrive not the actual system OS? If that is the case then I love your idea of hot swapping the Hard disk thanks.. And one other thing is it possible for a Ethernet hard disk with a Gigga bit connection the PS3 would copy much faster than the regular USB Harddrive as I have read the times its much slower for USB.. Thanks

Was wondering, do I need the N900 plugged in at all times just to run the backup manager? I've borrowed my friends N900 and installed it, backed up a game, but I returned it and when i restart the ps3, the Backup Manager gives me this error:

"An error occurred during the start operation. (800229519)"

Did I do something wrong? Or does the N900 always need to be plugged in.

You Need the N900 all the time.. As when you switch the ps3 off its like you Disable the psfreedom-disable.sh from the PS3

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To

1) the jailbreak is effective as it pokes at an exploit in the ps3's SYSCON initial configuration check.
swapping a hard drive may not delete all traces of jailbreak from your system - imo, its very unlikely it will delete all traces, but id still advise on doing it, in case anything at all can be removed this way.

2)@FinalMix: every time you start up the ps3, it must be a cold boot and the n900 must be plugged in; you MUST do the power/eject button combination. this unloads the enabling script. unless this script is run, the ps3 is not running in dev mode.

also, no, you must either leave your ps3 always on, or always cold boot it when you want the jailbreak, for the time being - it is possible in the future you can boot from standby to the jailbreak.

Hmm. I have always pulled out my N900 once my PS3 powered up with the JB.
Still everything works. Launching games using BM, backing up the game etc.

I've never disabled psfreedom on my N900.
What's the downside to having it enabled all the time?

Well, soon, we'll have an exploit running off our Dualshock controllers. So this N900 thing is all temporary really.

I'm pretty sure it wont work as a regular usb storage device if you have psfreedom enabled.

Ahhh. I just tried it and can confirm this is the case.
I normally transfer most files via SSH so didn't notice. =P
btw, it also seems to not charge off USB to PC.
