Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
Sorry I didn't have enough to time post logs yet but here's my OTG experience so far:
Kingston 4GB and Myflash 4GB read/write works ok, but I need to unplug and replug the device in order to make it work. Sometimes N900 doesn't boot, it starts the shutdown sequence before the Xorg. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
Hm i2c-tools installs just fine, but doesnt show in my application list.
ls /usr/var/local/i2* doesn't return anything to. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
I got it to work a 80 GB external drive.
I've only gotten once. Now I do not recognize any devices. |

I boot with kernel 2.6.28-omap1, create a new .item in /etc/multiboot.d (mine called 10-Maemo-2.6.28-hostmode1.item), install kernel, modules, flasher debs from somewhere in the middle of the topic (updated ones), shut down the device, start it with open keyboard, select the 2.6.28-hostmode1 entry I created, it says "Booting - please wait" and shows Modules: ext3, but nothing at Kernel and then it boots in omap1 again. Any ideas? I've read though the topic, but haven't been able to solve it. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
@mcgachnik I found I had to reinstall and reflash the hostmode kernel to make it work. The flasher script should print an error message if the kernel image is missing, but instead it just silently doesn't do anything.

1 Attachment(s)
I tested the hostmode kernel, but without lucky. 2 Pen drive and 1 external powered drive didn't detected. I attached 2 syslog.
I see in kernel hostmode the poweroff don't work, so I removed the battery for a cold start. The version of i2c-tools is 3.0.2 I tried to measure the voltage and I have 5V and some millvolts, but none device is recognized. Thank you for your great work. PS Admin please support also bz2 files, I attach a gz file but bz2 is better. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900

We moved on a bit, so no more logs needed. check back at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...060#post843060 ff thanks jOERG |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900

Jesus goddamned christ, can you learn to read a &#@$+*& thread please

Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
@MohammadAG
can you release next new version of usb hostmode kernel with usbnet drivers? And can you release hostmode kernel based on titan power kernel (instead nokia production kernel)? A lot of user use titan power kernel and will be nice if usb hostmode will work on titan based power kernel (which has all other modules...). And using USB <--> RJ45 conectors is not working because usbnet modules is not compiled in usb host mode kernel. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
I can see why it does drain battery so much in hostmode so would it perhaps be possible to make it so that one can turn hostmode on and off at will when running? Then it'd be a small matter to whip up a tray icon app that allows you to tap "Hostmode ON" and "Hostmode OFF".
Anyways, I am willing to become a tester for this if needed. I have a wide assortment of USB devices, and while I personally don't have a need for USB hostmode I can imagine it being very useful for others. So, do drop me a PM if you need more testers. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
**SIGH**
Please would you bother to read the whole thread! As suggested by nman 3 above. I don't get it how somebody can pester mohammad about something that's been clearly answered 2 posts before he does. Also you might be interested in http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...357#post858357 @WereCatf: Hostmode on/off has always been the plan, and even is included in Mohammad's hostmode.py GUI since beginning. We're planning to have a tray icon eventually, but for now you'll have to use hostmode GUI and there the button bottom right |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
And this is why I asked previously for some hard moding in this thread! Stupid questions only make the developers angry! They spend their precious time for the community and they get for their work stupidity in pure state!

Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
Just a note for anyone who wants to get the N8 OTG adapter, don't.
USB port types are confusing, I'll leave the naming to joerg_rw, it seems the N8 adapter is a rectanglular shape, without the round corners, the N900's cable works in the N8, but not vice versa. |
Re: [Testers needed] USB Hostmode prealpha for the N900
