for the God's sake, are you going to post this sh*t in every single thread? It's 3th time today, when I see You posting this. in totally unrelated thread, where I can see your report about "broken system". What the hell does it have to do with Robbiethe1st's BackupMenu?

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

hi!
Success!
Returning to an earlier theme, it was hard, after installing everything as is (post # 12) the system does not stand up, black light without a loading screen (white dots). When you return from the Backup menu, a lot of bugs. He finally managed to load the stock kernel maemo

Writes can someone help (multiboot / backup menu / kernel power47)

Install the kernel power (power kernel / kernel modules / kernel settings), reboot

check whether the kernel is loaded (kernel config sudo show) or conky

install (multiboot / backupmenu-multiboot-1.0/multiboot-kernel-maemo/multiboot-kernel-power) reboot and opened slide (in the menu we have the maemo kernel, backupmenu) start maemo kernel

instalujemyz x-terminal is not in HAM (sudo apt-get install kernel-power-bootimg)

after installation go to / etc / multiboot.d we should have the maemo kernel 2.6.28.10-power-power47.item. Then go to / boot - should be a folder here multiboot and zImage-2.6.28-power47. Copy zImage-2.6.28-power47 to multiboot folder and change its name to vmlinuz-2.6.28.10-power47

After all a game! I hope that someone come in handy

full guide to install multiboot 0.2.11 and backupmenu and kernelpower46 :

download this file :
http://www.mediafire.com/?4729126z6ig11k6

unpack it and copy its contents to /home/user/MyDocs

then open terminal and write the following :

root

cd /home/user/MyDocs

dpkg -i multiboot-0.2.11.deb

dpkg -i backupmenu-multiboot-1.0.deb

dpkg -i kernel-power-bootimg_2.6.28-maemo46_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-modules_2.6.28-maemo46_armel.deb
dpkg -i multiboot-kernel-maemo_0.3-1_armel.deb
dpkg -i multiboot-kernel-power_0.3-1_armel.deb

dpkg -i kernel-power-headers_2.6.28-maemo46_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power_2.6.28-maemo46_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-flasher_2.6.28-maemo46_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-settings_0.11_armel.deb

then restart ur mobile with opened keyboard and u will find 3 choices :

1 - for stock maemo kernel
2 - for kernel power 46
3 - for backupmenu

and from now u can install also nitdroid kernel and u will find it in the choices

cheers
mido

multiboot-kernel-power should be installed after all, at least, at the end. Otherwise there may be no kernel-power variant in the boot menu.

I faced this problem when tried to combine with kernel-power_42insteadOf46

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

Hi,
First of all thanks for Backup menu :-) Saved me a lot of times.
Second i wanted to know if you could add one more functionality.

Recently i have been facing a lot of reboot loops for which i haven't been able to come to root cause. but every time i flash the stock kernel it works. But i need to do the flashing using a PC.

What if you could add the "flashing of stock kernel" in the list of functionality on Backup menu? Is that possible? This would mean we could flash the stock kernel on the phone and without a PC..
Would be a life saver..

Just an idea. Is it possible?

Amboss 2011-11-23 13:27

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

On the other hand, you could flash stock kernel once, making a new backup afterwards and have your own stock kernel aside of any other backup you keep.

Estel 2011-11-24 05:44

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

backupmenu doesn't backup kernels.

Amboss 2011-11-24 13:45

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

It does backup rootfs or not? Isn't the kernel located there?

reinob 2011-11-24 14:38

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

@Amboss,

The kernel is stored in one of the MTD partitions. The rootfs is another one of the MTD partitions.

Don't know if you can simply read/write to any of those partitions (except the rootfs which has a file system).

You can't that why we need flasher ;) (on both kernel installation from repos, and flashing locally), over plain cp or untar.

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

@Estel,

Yup, but perhaps something like:

# cat bzImage > /dev/mtd3

might work to easily flash a new kernel.
However I get "Error: Insufficient balls" :)

Fabry 2011-11-25 13:55

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

You can try to use dd: dd if=bzImage of=/dev/mtd3

But it is better to use flasher.
There is a N900's version so you can flash from phone itself (using flasher + softupd) which the same method used by multiboot.

reinob 2011-11-25 14:59

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

@Fabry,

Have *YOU* tried to flash the kernel with dd?
If yes, did it work?

I had a quick skim through this thread, but I couldn't see anything related to my issue, I have the stable flavour of CSSU installed:

I can't seem to install any of the dependencies (debs posted in this thread) that backupmenu-multiboot requires, I upgraded multiboot to 0.2.11 fine, but i cant install i2c-tools or mtd-utils, it says "incompatible package"

I have tried installing i2c-tools from the repo itself, but still no joy. Anyone else had this issue?

You need to install them via dpkg/apt-get on the command line - App Manager refuses to install these packages as they're not tagged as user packages.

That was just happening to me also until I realised that I was using multiboot version 0.2.10-1 rather than 0.2.11.

Once I downloaded the correct multiboot deb on the first post of this thread and installed it, back up menu worked fine.

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

Hi, I'm trying to install liblzo2-2 with apt-get, but it's not in the Maemo repositories I have enabled. It says "Package liblzo2-2 is not available but referred to by another package...." I have extras (free) enabled and extras-devel (free) enabled at the time being.

I really don't think it needs to be downloaded from an external website. Isn't it in the Maemo repositories?

EDIT:
Well I just added Maemo SDK repository. That was what I was missing. However, there is no backupmenu-multiboot. The original backupmenu wants to remove multiboot.

Please, can someone push the new backupmenu-multiboot and multiboot into testing-devel?

Unfortunately, backupmenu-multiboot wasn't update for quite a while. although, it's quite easy to "update" backupmenu-multiboot to latest backupmenu, using files from the latter (just replacing old files) - instruction was posted "somewhere" in backupmenu thread.

If you have not resolved this yet, this worked for me when i had the same problem. Just ssh into your n900, drop in the files in the appropriate folder, and install from terminal apt-get.

If you already figured it out mabey it will help someone else w/ the issue.

Hello, can you please tell me how do I update this backupmenu-multiboot to latest backupmenu 1.2-0.2 version?

I've tried extracting the /usr/share folder and replacing it in older version, but it doesn't work.
I've search original backupmenu thread too
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=58633

But couldn't find any specific instruction. It'd be very nice to have a full featured shell in backupmenu. That's why I was trying to update it.

Please help.

Thank you.

I wanted to update the backupmenu-multiboot to latest 1.2 version from current .65
so I thought the procedure is to extract the files from the new deb file and paste it in the older deb file.
I decompressed the new 1.2 deb file, found /usr/share/backupmenu folder, took it and paste it in rootfs
the exact command I used is,
mv /usr/share/backupmenu /usr/share/backupmenu_old
mv /home/user/MyDocs/app/backupmenu_1.2.0-2_all/usr/share/backupmenu /usr/share/backupmenu

now I can't access backupmenu.

thank you, but I don't think that is related to my issue. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Can you please tell me the correct procedure?
Also, should I switch to uboot instead? What is your opinion? I'm new to maemo, I'm learning things.
I need a shell access incase it doesn't boot. (And that happens a lot for me)
rescueOS is good but that needs a pc around. That's the problem.

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

backupmenu-multiboot and backupmenu are two different pair of shoes.
So this will not work. But midofayad (or some other kind soul) prepared an update. Google or power search will help: backupmenu-multiboot-1.2_0.65-1.deb

BUT you should switch to kp52, u-boot and bootmenu/backupmenu from repo (devel). Cleanest will be refresh, especially considering newbie.

thanks. This is what I've installed now. But still struggling to get the shell to work.
Thinking of installing this
but then I don't have cssu-testing.
How do I upgrade frome stable to testing? Will installing the testing over stable work?

peterleinchen 2014-06-06 19:18

Re: [Announce] NEW Backupmenu-multiboot and new multiboot 0.2.11 ( update )

Yep, you should try that.
Sorry I thought backupmenu had a shell on its own (like backupmenu-multiboot has when pressing 's').. For sure kernel with frame buffer support is needed and a little hack in /sbin/preinit to enable fbcon.

About cssu: please have a look in the appropriate threads. But afaik going from stable to testing is no problem, just change the repositories (install cssu-testing). Going back is not possible.
I propose you directly go to cssu-thumb

I know but unfortunately none of those shell is working for me. The fix you linked me for backupmenu shell here is already in the latsest version. But still I'm getting a blank screen. I've no clue what to do to get it working. I think I should now ask in the bakupmenu thread.
I've kp52 installed with u-boot. I think kp52 already has kernel-feature-framebuffer support. Still it doesn't work. Is there anything else I need to do?

I looked but couldn't find anything regarding this probably because it is straight-forward.
I'll read more about cssu-thumb and will try ro jump to thumb instead of testing.

Thank you for your help. :)

oh, you gave me the hint. It was not working because I had to enable fbcon manually.
To do that, edit /sbin/preinit
add "modprob fbcon" (without qoute) at the end of the function init_system() (i.e. In a new line just before the closing } at around line no 42 in my case)
so it'll look like
Code:

        if [ -n $madc_minor ] ; then
                mknod /tmp/dev/twl4030-adc c 10 $madc_minor
        fi
        modprobe fbcon
}

I've also disabled nokia hands video btw.
