Another happy customer here!
That kernel is getting better all the time…
Installed on top of v46 with bleeding edge drivers without removing,
nothing broken, Kernel-config works, sms work, load.sh wl1251 driver works.
That IO patch must have a positive effect. Perhaps someone will think of a test to prove it before upgrading.

edit: @TMavica, perhaps enabling RD mode would make it boot.

Finally, i just dpkg'ed kernel, modules, flasher and bootimage and now i have v46;v47;omap1;NITDroid.
Thank You guys

Re: kernel-power patches/updates

1 Attachment(s)
@pali and whoever is interested:

Find attached a patch (and other goodies) for kernel-power v46. The patch updates DSP bridge driver to version allowing us to use latest TI dsp codecs and those from android (for OMAP3430 of course). With using this patch(and DSP MPEG4 decoder from Omnia HD) I was able to play (not perfectly but the problem looks like gstreamer related) MPEG4 video with resolution of 1280x720. Just a POC. Lot more work in userland is needed until we got perfectly working 720p video (both play and record), but this patch seems to be enough from the kernel side.

More details in readme.txt in attached zip.

EDIT 08.05.2011: Attachment updated so no more userland libraries need to be changed.

on windows: flasher-3.5.exe --enable-rd-mode
in theory (and in practice) it disables some watchdogs that would stop it from booting if something is wrong so that you can debug the problem.
helped me in the past.

Ok. For power-kernel is interested only kernel part code. First, can you create diff for file rx51power_defconfig? And second, is gstreamer, media player, ... working if I apply only kernel patch? (We need be sure, that power-kernel 48 up will not break system).

And for all: Now I pushed power-kernel v47 to extras-devel. wait until maemo builder done its work.

Fantastic work Pali and everyone else involved..thank you..

I think it helps if we can document the kernel-power changes..

Can we have all this new patch information go into kernel-power wiki page.. or should we have a another page created for this..

For changelog, you can reduce output 'git log' from my git repository :)

No, it is better to build uboot package in kernel-power source package.

Pali, after updating to your kernel and adding the multiboot entry in uboot (and booting successfully) the software manager gets me an update of "Linux Kernel for power user (boot image) 2.6.28-10power47".
Should I update it or ignore it? Will it break the boot in multiboot?

EDIT: Both of the installed packages are named the same. But the version I got installed is 2.41 mb while the version the updater shows me is 2.34 mb. Please help me decide wheter to update it or not.

I had it installed. But I updated the file to the less sized new one and it worked very well. Thanks again Pali.

Did anyone come across this? The kernel modules that report CPU temperature and current aren't really working here:

http://i.imgur.com/DEdLu.png

My phone is not running at 300 degrees celsius now lol

Megaltariak 2011-05-03 18:57

Re: kernel-power patches/updates

As reported earlier, this kernel has a different method of returning temperatures (more precise)
308° means 30.8°

And it's very nice to see more kernel improvements, thanks pali and everyone that get involved :D

Guys, for me it is failing ...
I had multiboot with:
1 kernel omap
2 power 46
3 nitdroid

after installing I did not see a new entry for power47, and selecting I get "can't flash kernel, required files not found" errors. I added an entry for the new one

I tried reinstalling it all and got:

Nokia-N900:~# apt-get install --reinstall multiboot-kernel-power kernel-power kernel-power-flasher

i felt the same way when I discovered this thread:)...I updated and everything works as before...including the wireless driver. All you have to do is to load the modules the same way you did in power46-wl1 kernel

See all packages in Hildon Application Manager. For multiboot you need to install "Linux kernel for power user (boot image)"

or via apt:
$ apt-get install kernel-power-bootimg

Cool it worked ! Now it boots kerner power 47 again !
I saw that now it reports 353 degrees celsius for the CPU heh is that a bug ? :p

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v47

What about contact all developers which maintain applications which report battery temperature to update their applications?

Can somebody do it?

bq27x00_battery module (which report 300°C) is only in kernel-power, not in default stock kernel.

Changelogs are pretty useful :)

Why wouldn't you update? It takes like a minute and a reboot, if you want to start using it immediately.
Code:

kernel-power (1:2.6.28-10power47) fremantle; urgency=low

  * enabled additional kernel modules (for usb host mode)
  * backported bq27x00_battery patch
  * some patches from kernel-power bugtracker
  * multiboot support in kernel-power-bootimg package

what i've noted is massive battery saving
i was using stock kernel since a week ago and changing to v47 made a LOT of difference in battery consuming levels.

Edit: I note the difference with v46 too (I used it before than stock kernel last week)
PS: using stock cpu freq always

I dont know if its just me, but the phone feels more responsive since the update. The default maemo apps like calculator or settings defeneetly loads faster, I think rotating is less painful in phone app now, and OMP is faster to rearrange. THX Pali! (Youre from Hungary BTW?)
