In the commandments:

"7. If at first thy tablet fails, innovate, innovate, innovate again.
What if Apple had given up on tablets after the Newton?"

So Tabco is a company that has before failed in tablets?

770 (first tablet), N800 (innovate), N810 (innovate), N900 (innovate again)

Rather straightforward hint to me.

Re: Do we have a Nokia Internet Tablet in waiting? Tabco

Hmmm... color me cautiously optimistic. I'm not a fan of tablets, but I wouldn't say no to a 7 to 9 incher (tablet!). The main justificat... use would be to read pdfs off of them, as the kindle shucks big time on pdfs. I really, really like the Asus EEE transformer, but I would like something with a full linux distro and a normal, non-proprietary USB port.

On another note, anyone think that those ten commandments actually make some sense? Let's hope that they actually obey them and give us something actually innovative instead of same old same old.

I guess I shouldn´t unwrap my Ipad 2 until at least next month when we find out if this is HP or Nokia.

Forget the Fruit Company....

I'm betting it's Intel. Nokia is too goddam stupid, anti-consumer and hostile to Americans to launch something in New York.

Agree

What about WeTab....
We(are)Tab(co)... revamping its UI and launching in US in a big way?!?!? Based on MEego, and cannot rule out minor involvement of Nokia (true), and the rest fall in place...

That's a decent guess, but their marketing seems to play up the fact that they're not a new company--they're somebody we already know.

I saw this among their FAQ:
Quote:

Is your CEO married?

Yes, to his work…
F***! It's worse than we thought! It's owned by APERTURE LABORATORIES!

How about this:

some Maemo employers and CTO has "leaved" Nokia for "personal reasons" lets say this is just smoke and with help of Nokia they have started a new company under Nokia. would that be stategic good for Nokia in longer run? that way the new company has no direct connection to Microsoft and they can still continue invesment on R&D "future disruptions". Isnt this often what happens with companys with big troubles? some kind of "split"?

so what they actually is doing is moving future disruption to the new company?

Maybe I am way of and too optimistic for once :/ just my......

Re: Do we have a Nokia Internet Tablet in waiting? Tabco

Starting to really think this is WeTab. Just wonder if they will alter the ratings like they had once done in the past.

To the average American, they don't know WeTab nor MeeGo. And with folks like JooJoo out of the picture for the most part, I doubt it's a Nokia spin-off (too little time and no announcements). Vizio, Acer, Asus, Motorola have gone the Android route. And there's no other MeeGo handset or tablet announced - there's two MeeGo netbook form factor announcements, not tablet - let's see how this plays out.

I strongly hope in:
7" form factor
full linux stack
full set of sensors
host/guest/otg usb
stereo loudspeakers

(Well maybe some chinese is already doing this. I might as well have a trip at Shenzen and do some shopping)

This has probably been here many times but at least here in Finland Nokia has said many times that they are helping their emplyoees who are forced to leave the company by e.g. giving them Nokia's patents to start new companies. It could be that TabCo is something like that.

I'd like TabCo to be a Meego-tablet from Nokia, though. It would at least give some hope for the future to Nokia not completely become a WP-house.

1. They´re not talking of the actual Rubik´s Cube toy, but....
Either:
2. They are referring to a building, famous locally, shaped like a Cube called, built or designed by a mr. Rubik/Rubick
or
3. The mathematical theory behind the Rubik´s cube and where it comes from.

wait.. not sure if this wasn't mentioned here before but doens't "catalyst of the pog fad in early 90's" seem like an obvious reference to bringing icon grid UI for cellphones to the masses, like Nokia did?

Re: Do we have a Nokia Internet Tablet in waiting? Tabco

From the ten tablet commandments:

"3. Thou shall not take the name of thy tablet in vain when it inexplicably deletes all your photos.
Ever had this happen? You plug your tablet into a friend’s computer to charge. The sync function somehow manages to delete all your photos. Stay calm. Your tablet is linked to your computer, or your phone, isn’t it? No? Well, it should be."

In the N9 manual (as seen on the FCC website), a "Nokia Link" application is mentioned for syncing...

Question #3: When is the planned release of your tablet?
Answer #3: We gave you a pretty big hint last week!

http://www.whoistabco.com/blog/?p=58

Release on 15. August :)

If this thing looks promising I´ll buy it that day.

Its Nokia based on the fact that there is an N9 in their promotional video, a device which is not released yet and not easy to come by.

Which promotional video? The New York one where they use a Verizon branded Motorola Droid 2/Milestone to hack some lights?

This marketing campaign also has this same kind of "mystery" feel to it as the n9 code solving-campaign.

Sounds quite similar to this twitter account: twitter.com/WeAreTabCo :D

How cool would it be if this tablet thing was in any way related to nokia's morph concept: that would be like "reinventing the wheel", "not like anything you've seen before", "future market disruption", "Aha! moment", ... all over the place!
