Re: N9/N950 Contacts/IM - Get help & give feedback here

Have an interesting problem. I have a friend and their parents numbers in my phone, they all share the same home land line number but each has their own mobile number. When my friend messages me the messages says it comes from their home land line number and that the number is found in three contacts.

When I go into contacts and message my friend that way my message fails to send but when I reply to their message that comes from the "home land line" number it succeeds.

Any ideas?

I am also having problem with another contact now that I can no longer send them a text message it just says sending and never sends (send them a message only a couple of days ago).

I think some of this problem is the result of merging contacts as I have in the past done a reflash, it loaded my contacts in from the SIM card as well as downloaded my messenger contacts and then when I synced it with Nokia Suite (before it decided that it wanted to update itself and no longer work with my N9) and it then brought across the same contacts that I already had on my phone from its local copy so I merged them all together but I think something got messed up.

hi i have a problem with my gtalk account. i've deleted and created it again still it doesn't work. it simply doesnt work on 3G but when on WiFi it works smoothly.

even gmail works well on WiFi but not on 3G. this problem is restricted to only 1 gmail account of mine. another 3 accounts dont have this issue. for gtalk too only this account has the problem.

can someone help me with this. i read somewhere that it might be gmail locking my account to my first sim something that is done in android but i don't get why it doesnt occur to the other accounts.

I have a problem. I have synced my N9 with google contacts using mail for exchange account, but it turns out that some of my contacts are missing phone number. All of the missing-phone-number contacts have only one phone number. Around 20% is missing.

Sent this PM to Abustany...

Abustany,

You haven't been active in this thread for just over a mth now.
You haven been active on TMO at all since then.

If you've changed roles/positions (as you hinted)...
Can you at least knock-over any remaining queries, & then explain that you've finished?

Posts you haven't responded to start from here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...91#post1149891
It's only about 2 pages....

And as I've asked several times...
Can you please arrange for someone to step into your role, & monitor this thread?
If this isn't possible for some reason, just explain briefly why.

Thank-you!

I also have one question regarding to syncing, not sure if this is the right place to ask....

I have ovi contact sync enabled, yesterday I enabled MfE contact sync as well. Does Contact allows more than one syncing service? After enabling MfE sync, I see some contacts become 'Sync to: MfE' in their contact cards. There is no mentioning about Nokia sync, and this is confusing from user's point of view....

Possibly, but he did say earlier in the thread that he is moving on soon.
If true, & if there's no one else stepping-up, that means we're left w/no more dialogue internally.

Nice attempt at trying to mischaracterise what I'm asking.
That may well be your opinion, but it's not reality.
I'm simply asking whether he can investigate this option.
There has been no "demanding" as you put it...
I've been perfectly polite in all my posts, & merely persistent.

Sergey has continued in the same kind of "casual" role in the MfE thread.
Clearly abustany may not be able to continue in that capacity.
Hence the obvious need to request if someone else can continue that role.
Undoubtedly many would be grateful if Nokia could facilitate it.
In what way does your personal attack serve to help Maemo 6x users?
If you don't ask, then you lessen the chances of a solution.

Nah, I'm very sorry that you feel this as a personal attack. I don't understand what made you interpret it like that, and it doesn't really matter - I'm just flabbergasted how easily people get offended. I'm very sorry you feel this way.

I still stand by what I say though, but it's in no way any personal attack. We just clearly disagree in the wording used, and I'm quite ok with that :) No need to get all dramatic - let's just all be friends :)

Not a personal attack? Sure thing, keep believing that...
Not apologizing for what was clearly a personal attack...
And then accusing me of being dramatic, isn't the best way to smooth things over.

And you also mischaracterised the utility of these threads…
It's not a one-sided affair of Nokia devs giving selflessly of their free time.
Feedback end-users have given in their free time has often been invaluable.
So even if Nokia devs have screened these threads exclusively in their free time.
They've undoubtedly been useful for what they're doing in working hours.

Anyway I'm finished if you are....
But I'll continue to remind Noka devs about this thread until I get a response.
No matter how rude you may think that is ;)

Hello everyone,

I was wondering that my avatars of my contacts that I pulled from facebook are not updating once they change their profile pictures in facebook.
And on some contacts that are linked to facebook I don't even have the option to pull the avatar from facebook.

Is this a bug/feature? Or what am I doing wrong?
Is there a (terminal) command to refresh these pictures?

In the two weeks that I used a Windows Phone automatic avatar update was one of the positive features I found.

Thanks for any help!
Does anyone here have any idea about this?

Adrien moved projects some months ago now indeed, and this was unfortunately one of the things that 'fell through the cracks' during his transition - through no malice on his part I might note.

He asked me some weeks ago if I'd be able to keep an eye on this thread, and I agreed, and then promptly forgot to do so as well :)

But - here I am now, so if you've questions, ask away. I don't have too much longer on the project myself, but I'm happy to help in the last weeks I'm on it at least.

... I realise that some introduction about me is probably helpful...

I've spent the past few years working on Contacts on the N9, focusing primarily on the user interface parts (i.e. the actual application that you interact with when you add/edit contacts, open them to dial people etc.) - so that's where most of my knowledge is, but I'm happy to try field questions from other areas - I just might not be able to help :)

I don't know a great deal about sync/MfE, but I believe that MfE only supports one number field.

A 'gmail' account won't really import contacts (unfortunately: this was realised rather late in the UI implementation phase as being a bit confusing / bad) - it will import the IM contacts from that account (i.e. the ones you have in chat) but not the ones you have in Google Contacts.

This rings a bell as some sort of a bug, but I don't remember the exact details right now. I can recommend one method which *might* fix it.

(name of UI elements may not be exact, my phone is in Norwegian)

Open contacts, tap the menu (bottom right), tap 'merge contacts'. It should open a sheet picker with 'Cancel' and 'Merge' buttons at the top. At the bottom of that sheet, there's another button for me titled 'Oppdater' (Update) - press that. It should have a try at merging together duplicates that it finds in your addressbook.

If that doesn't work, I'd recommend finding the other places that number crops up in your addressbook and trying to neuter it.

I've just moved from my bb to n9 so this function is quite needed.

Thanks in advance.

If by contact, you mean dial, then there is a call history tab in the dialer. I'd need more information if that isn't it.

So, you want to know how automerging works. AFAIR, basically it's done by contact name only - so the local contact's name must match their name on the service (Twitter/Facebook).

I always thought that this should be a good deal smarter than it is, but UI design at the time dictated otherwise - that it should only create links based on obviously visible data. One day I'd really like to try prototype something that mashes together data from multiple services as smartly as it can, but I digress.

Re: N9/N950 Contacts/IM - Get help & give feedback here

Hi and thanks to be here to help,
I have contacts that are sync using Mfe with gmail (which is as well sync with outlook).
I have two issues
- I put a contact as 'favorite' (sorry I am using french version so not sure about the translation) but this is constantly removed and am losing any favorite
- I put a specific sound to ring when the contact call me and this is as well back to the standard ring tone

It seems the sync is removing the N9 specifics for contacts. I guess the two aspects I have mentioned (ringtone and favorite) should be kept and not sync (because not sure that there is a field in gmail for them).

I am wondering if the bug is somewhere present in your internal bugtracker. Or if I am just a curiosity (alone having this problem?). Or maybe a normal (but frustrating) behavior of the system.

For info, I have as well a skype and a twitter account which sync contacts. But the contacts I am referring to are not on skype or twitter (so the sync should not affect those specific contacts).

EDIT: I have also sync contacts with nokia account

I can't say I've seen these (though of course I might miss some reports...) - I don't use nonstandard ringtones myself, but I certainly haven't ever encountered favorite status being reset.

This is a bit more suspicious though. I'd advise turning sync to Nokia/Ovi contacts off if you use MfE. Things can get a bit confusing (I've seen people accidentally end up with 2-3 copies of their contacts, one local, one MfE, one Nokia, and end up thoroughly confused).

That's just a personal recommendation though.

It isn't down to the number, at least (I just tested it with 4k contacts, though that will keep my device warm enough that I can turn the heater off for a while... :))

Can you tell me more about where (& how many) these contacts come from? What details you have on them? How long does it take to crash? etc.

There isn't one as such. Our testers usually have some few hundreds - thousand, I've seen a few (real world) devices with 1-2k... but things obviously start to slow down over a point. RAM consumption is also a problem, as all of this data is stored in memory.

OK. There isn't any functionality for that, and I'm fairly certain it won't be added at this stage.
