My post was asking how I could find my waze password because I lost it. It wasn't a feature request.

I'm glad it was unencrypted at the time :) I'll try not to forget my password again because i don't think I will be able to sniff it on the network or grab it from the config now. :D

I've not experienced either bug yet.

It is not encrypted in the config file and it will stay that way :P (Network is secured with SSL)

I have v0.08 from apps4meego, it often tells me there is less than 20% battery on startup and asks if I want to exit Waze.

The back light seems to stay lit when enabled in the configuration, although an "auto" mode would be great; back light on when on charge, otherwise obey phone setting.

I often get this as well:

the close app: yes or no — is not related to waze it think, i have those sometimes with twitter and other apps. i think it's just load CPU on start that's hy we get this error. So as i know the aim to rewrite whole thing to Qt and i bet it would be easier than to optimize and it would be more light than it is now. so just give it a time

Two days ago i navigated something like 15 min without any messages about battery or "NOT responding".. The screen stay lit, but it's always play with auto-brightness..
Can you adding option for disable auto-brightness when WAZE navigate ?

I think it does come fom waze in a way. I hope that it will be solved when I'll finish the rewrite of the UI layer 3 versions from now.

@ginggs + @Schturman: thanks for the idea about the autobrightness, but I'm afraid that in the old waze code there is no such feature and in addition to that nokia did not add way in qmobility (as far as i could find) to set the brightness level manually (or disable autobrightness). This complicate things. Overcoming the waze lack of feature is easy (I can do a hidden setting to allow that), but finding a cross platform replacement to qtmobility is the hard part.
Maybe after I'll finish rewriting the UI layer I'll reconsider, but in the meanwhile i still have a lot of other todos :)

I may just be unfamiliar with the terminology, but I don't intend to suggest autobrightness.

You currently have two settings for the back light; on - where Waze never switches to the stand-by screen, and off - where the display switches to the stand-by screen after the N9's display time-out value.

I'm suggesting a third back light option; auto - where if the N9 is charging, it behaves like the existing 'on' setting, and if the N9 is not charging, it behaves like the existing 'off' setting.

I have made another test binary, trying to further isolate the issue:

That is possible. I will see if I can add it to v0.0.9. What Schturman suggested was to disable the auto-dimming where the brightness is changing according to the surrounding light level - a feature which qtmobility lacks.

That did not had the expected results... I have made a new deb for you: http://code.google.com/p/waze-qt/issues/detail?id=5

btw, when you click the "send" logs - that information is send to the waze team, and I dont have access to it. Sadly, the waze code get a config update request on each start which will reset to their send URL even if I set it to be my own. Maybe if they will get enough of these packets, they will decide to assist me in my efforts...

:/ the issue was that QContactManager was not initialized properly, so it was not valid. Looks like it is still the issue. This might be a bug in QtMobility. I will keep investigating...

@gianko is everything else works ok besides the contacts?

i'll be releasing v0.0.9 (codename: Chico) in 3-4 days:
* Added 'backlight stay lit only when plugged' option
* Fixed the freeze that occured when data was transmitted, so no more 'Close application...' dialog.
* Fixed network data compression (i consider working 90% of the time better than 0% :p )
* Fixed adding a favorite caused crash
* Fixed pinging a wazer caused crash

in addition, some fixes to the ubuntu release, but that is not relevant to this forum.

the second search crash is a bug in the original waze code and apprears in the known issues since v0.0.1. I didnt want to fix it as it require changes to their code, but since i'll rewrite the UI in the next releases which changes a lot of the original code, i'll see if i can fix it for v0.0.9.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

V0.0.9 is in the maemo-devel and appsformeego-testing repositories.
2 notes:
1) network data compression is hectic, and if waze will crash several times it will change it back to off
2) the screen freeze sometime and recover after 5 seconds

I will upload to the ubuntu ppa repositories either today or tomorrow (yes, there is also an ubuntu release :P)

@gainko v0.0.9 integrates the changes that were in the last modified deb I sent you, so viewing the contacts will still cause a crash, but the rest should work OK.

AFAIK, apps in devel should be voted to be passed to the maemo-testing and only then can be voted to maemo-extras:
Quote:

The maemo.org extras-testing repository hosts community applications and related packages that are waiting to be evaluated and promoted to Maemo 5 Extras. The packages hosted here are promoted from extras-devel and have gone through an automated quality check. Now they need real humans assessing that they are indeed ready to be released. If this article is hard to understand but you want to test software, please see Help testing software -article.
Besides, I don't think it will pass the QA since:
1) It still have a high footprint
2) In next versions I will rewrite the UI layer to overcome the performance issue, so maybe I will use QtComponents as part of it, which currently only exists in devel. In the next weeks I will create a mockup video of what I have in mind for the new UI to open a debate for improvements.

@everyone - I have found another bug in the network compression logic which might cause a crash at some network requests. Please don't use it yet.

Pinging other wazers no longer results in a crash, but the received message is either "SAGE DIALOG" or blank.

this is because of libqtm-mutimedia but if I remove it as dependency then I will not able to play sound if it is not previously installed

Thanks. I'll have a look at that. I don't like randomly pinging people I don't know in my town, but it looks like I dont have a choice...

mutimedia, is that a typo?

It appears in your debian/control file as well:
Code:

Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, qtquickcompat, libqtm-location | libqtm-12, libqtm-contacts | libqtm-12, libqtm-mutimedia | libqtm-12, libqtm-systeminfo | libqtm-12

I'm afraid that I am not familiar with such installation method.

Basically there are 2:
1) Install it using the default web browser
2) Install AppForMeego, enable AppsForMeego testing and last install waze from it

If you chose method 2, you will get update notifications for new releases

Damagespline, excellent working haven't tried this app in months, got an update for it, so I thought I would try it again. WOW works extremely well! does voice navagation work? there is a box that sits on the screen that says voice navagation in progress but it never moves past 0 percent? Other than that very well done!!

Hopefully it was only this that was preventing the promotion to extras-testing.

The 'backlight stay lit only when plugged' option is working well.

I have been 'road munching' near where I live and then noticed after a few days the dots reappeared, I munched them again, and now a few days later they are back again. Is this normal Waze behaviour?
