Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

I would be curious about this also as I have the suspicion that the problem with XMS is nokia push and not XMS itself.

somedude 2012-02-14 15:43

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

what are other methods to check push? The only two things o javelin for push are the xms and Nokia pulse, which no one uses that i know of. And today i opened the xms and saw i have 15 some messages from yesterday which i never got notified for.

Can u please set a date for the upcoming update ?

@Aleksandra, you guys better get cracking...
Tell us when "roughly" we can expect the next major release.
And tell us if that release upholds everything you originally said you'd deliver.

The petition for Whatsapp has been growing heaps lately.
Plus there may be other "methods" to run it reliably soon.
Whether they want to help us or not....

Download link does not work? Could you update it?

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

I hope ebuddy can have a faster turnaround time between release, feedback and new version. Right now it is so slow that users are in danger of losing interest.

You are saying it might be possible to get WhatsApp on the N9? I have very low hopes for that petition. But if there might be another way, brilliant!

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

My XMS is now searching for a data connection for the last 12 hours or something, has anyone else experienced this or knows how to solve it
Its really annoying as I've been lobbying to get my friends to download this app and now it doesn't work! I would really love a release date for the Ebuddy XMS version that seems equal to whatsapp in terms of features, like photosharing etc.

It's becoming feasible, but it'll be a hack, & of course won't be officially sanctioned by Whatsapp.
But we should be giving eBuddy a chance first...
At least they really give a **** about Maemo6x users, & other more esoteric OS's (& the main ones).

I was wondering if there's away to change the display name. Because I find extremely annoying that my last name is shown as "Bre~A+a" instead of "Breņa".

Hmm...looks like a telltale sign of something being encoded as UTF-8, but decoded as ASCII. :/

Yes, this won't install over Nokia store version

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

The new version posted by Jaylst seems to be very fast on opening now it has a splash screen and starts very fast, a very welcoming feature, still have not been able to check the push as none of my contacts are awake to send me a reply.

Hi guys,

thanks for using XMS and spreading word about it.

Indeed we're currently having some push issues and it takes time to resolve them.

If you do have push issues, can you please send me direct message with your Nokia store account and phone number? This will help us a lot in investigation.

Thank you,
Aleksandra

Check your PM its sent.
I was enjoying the crap out of this app when the push was working but now not anymore. But I do like the new splash screen and faster opening of the app from new beta (not from the store, the one jaylst posted).
Thanks,

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

Ok, before anyone going to install the beta version, some tips:

1- Disable both push notifications and uninstall previous version.
2- Reboot
3- Remove *ALL* the files created by eBuddy. Use this:
Code:

find / -name *xms* | xargs rm -rf
if you have problems to remove /home/user/.local/share/data/eBuddy/xms-qt use a filemanager (like Filebox). ALL YOUR CONVERSATIONS WILL BE DELETED!
4- Reboot again.
5- Install new version, and... guess what: Reboot again.

I did all this things and now push works again. BUT, new version has new bugs, it seems to have problems to close properly, kepping the process /opt/xms-qt/bin/xms-qt in the background, and forcing me to kill it manually :(

PD: @jalyst, congrats copypasting tips from comments in MyNokiaBlog.com

You're most welcome, & as I recall I said I'd post it at TMO.
I don't care who the source is, you can have the glory if it makes you feel better.
All I give a **** about, is passing useful info. onwards...
It's not unique info. anyway, it has been posted before...
Once you posted it my memory was jogged, CBF'd finding it, but it's out there.
So you're not the source of "special insider info"....

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

Just to let you guys know, my push messages has started working magically by it self without any changes made by my end. But still its slow in sending messages, i usually recieve the push notification after about 3-4 minutes, and it says that I have 2 message but infact its only 1 it is always doubling the message count
With the new beta the notification tone when the app is closed is only a beep and as it does not have a stand by screen notification you miss a lot of messages.

have you tried logging in with facebook first? And check the country, i javelin had numerous times checked Canada and not receive the code. I think i have so far uninstalled and installed this app for atleast 50 times. I asked my contacts to move to this app on their iphone and android and i was not able to use it since push was not working. If that all fails download file box and then uninstall the app and delete every trace of ebuddy from phone using filebox and download the beta jaylst posted a page or few back.

Thanks to almighty most anticipated fixes aka pr1.2 now push is completely shut off. Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your patience now you can gladly toss your Nokia phone in the wall.
So long xms as i would be deleting you now because push message was the only point i was using this service and now it don't work (was in a hope the new pr would've fixed that) now back to gtalk and Skype.

Ayt man no need to throw your toys just as yet, I bet all they need is Update the Ovi verson then all will be back to normal, XMS has been having a couple known bugs, it needs to be fixed anyway!

if you haven't been following, the Nokia pulse does not work either for push, so clearly it has to do with Nokia server as only two available push enabled services don't work which is distributed by two completely different companies, would be quite a coincidence if it has to do with apps itself.
and as i think xms has one push server where its pushing all its messages to different devices from it and if its working fine on iphone abducting android then makes me think its not the xms at fault.

Maybe it's the same error that rectified itself when suddenly Feeds syncing stopped working :)

What do you mean?
I recall reading part of 1.2 or 1.3 was to improve the whole underlying architecture of push.
Where's the official statement that Nokia's killing push altogether?

how would you explain both out of all 2 push utilizing app stooped the push messages who are using pr1.2, and please do look at the pulse discussion thread in Nokia beta site, when one member asked where to find the logs for n9 the pulse developer (working for nokia) said they are not putting any more effort on Nokia n9.
