Simple, I'm using the upstream technology now (nemo-qml-plugins), that will allow Social network type applications to be developed. This plugin is likely to be used in Sailfish applications, but I'm using it in a Harmattan one, that is Friends.

Long story short: I'm back in developping Friends, but not using the same basis.

Any easier way to install without using Inception?

No need of inception. Maybe I will build an independant deb one day.

Just installed the app for a first test. Have been using fMobi for a long time but the app seems to be dead and no maintenance is alive.
You have a lot more work to do with Friends but it looks promising.
Clicked on the Donate button but I can't speak a word French and doesn't understand it either ;)

Strange about the paypal being in french. Should be in the language of your browser ...

I have tried to open it with FF, IE and Chrome with the same result. I will check again when I am back home, maybe there is some strange here at my job.

It is the same from my home computer, still everything is in French.
Maybe I can fix it anyway ;)

Confronted to a strange bug right now, a bit blocked ...

knobtviker 2013-04-24 23:55

Of what sort? :)

First, I'm searching for the source of a debug message that comes out of nowhere, and then I'm also searching for why some stuff are not updated correctly while I'm calling a refresh.

Should not be really hard.

knobtviker 2013-04-25 07:01

Debug message could come out of precompiled libraries if you are using one.
Hoping to test it soon :)
Should I purge old installation before the next update?

Found it. The debug message came from my own support library (silly me)

Well, currently, it is far from being feature complete, even compared to the old Friends. I will release something when I reached parity. When I released it, I will tell about what to do with old installation (that means: I don't know about if we need to purge right now :) )

And you are becoming impatient knobtviker !

knobtviker 2013-04-25 09:12

Sorry about that. My sixth sense is telling me this is going to be _the_ Facebook client for future use, so I'm a bit eager to use it. :)

:) thanks for the support !
I think I will also target Sailfish, and maybe, with some help, there will be a port to BB10

Think twice before porting it to BB.... Because I don't support blackberry anymore because of THIS and THIS...

I'm not sure the OpenWhatsApp vs official WhatsApp disagreement is directly relevent to Friends. In fact, I think that BlackBerry would be much more supportive of your Facebook app, since they wrote their own FB app in-house anyways, and there is no conflict with official FB like there is with official WhatsApp.

That said, BB has some explaining to do when it comes to those fishy App World ratings and their conduct in handling OpenWhatsApp.

Perhaps more to the point would be the ability of any developer to produce a great Facebook experience given the limited capabilities of BB APIs. If, however, you could get Friends feature complete, you'd have the strongest FB client in at least three ecosystems (ours, BB10, and Sailfish). So I say go for it! Bibek and knobtviker code for BB10, so there is help out there.

Just don't ask you-know-who, because he's still understandably P.O.'d!

Believe me, soon or later FB will jump on the train too, then Sfiet_Konstantin will be gettin' screwed like Tarek (tgalal). I really feel sorry for him that he's been betrayed like that :S

Even if it won't be deleted on the blackberry appworld, I'm still not a fan because of their action....

Edit: OpenWA is much better then the official WhatsApp. The official client has so many bugs and things that don't work properly.
Ofcourse, for Blackberry, It's all about the money...

I suppose that there are always considerations of risk and reward, but for Friends, the reward could be HUGE (3 ecosystems' #1 FB app would be a monster win) and the risk is IMO very SMALL, i.e. that FB would come in and demand that a 3rd party app be squeezed out. WhatsApp is very different from FB, I think.

Tgalal is a brilliant dev and we all know how much it sucks to be cheated. I hope he can get money through his OpenWA app one way or the other. He's shown what he can do.

Re: [WIP] Friends, a smooth Facebook client for N9

Building a highly experimental version of Friends rebased on Nemo Social plugin on the MeeGo OBS.

Follow instructions on how to add the repository on the first page, and apt-get install friends-qml if you want. Remove qfb-friends before, remove cache, remove config.

Beware, highly experimental, nothing is guaranteed to work. Please install it only for testing, and go back to qfb-friends for a more stable version.

It will get better and better for the next iterations.

knobtviker 2013-04-26 19:20

Works. Fast and stable. Thanks.
Patiently waiting for more features now.
P.S. You need a standard splashscreen. :P

Of cause. It is now the only way to deliver. I think it should make everything easy ... Until OBS shutdown.

Same here, but I guess that's how it's supposed to be right now and more stuff will be added further down the road.

When I said highly experimental, I did not meant that everybody should install it ... It is expected: right now close to nothing works.

Well, then it was like I mentioned. I installed it for testing purposes and out of curiosity.
The things that works are working good so keep up the good work. N9 really needs a good facebook client.

IM chat is integrated with Nokia official Facebook client. Maybe I will write the message system one day.

sillieidiot 2013-05-02 14:30

Nice app, fast and smooth. still can't use it though. The app doesn't get the latest feed items, it's like 3+ hours behind. And for some reason, after it went to May, the days and times are incorrect for the posts.

can we expect a new release soon? hope so after you were testing to post and comment on facebook... which seemd to work well..

i'm so sick of stock facebook... i hope you integrate also messages (not chat) as you only can write in portrait mode in stock app wich makes me more sick than everything else
