Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! My current N900 USB port is getting loose and has to be in just the right position to charge; I've got a backup, but it's not currently loaded with any of my preferred apps. I live in Emacs org-mode, and was seriously dreading having to switch to an Android phone.

PS - I still don't (currently) have a lot of free time, but I might be able to squeeze in a few hours every week here and there if you still need help (either sysadmin or programming).

PPS - I would really like to keep a mirror of my own for packages. I don't really have a lot of bandwidth, but would like to have a permanent personal backup. Does anybody know the required capacity for a mirror of the repos?

No issues here, seems fairly fast as well actually.

Well, there are issues there but no with the repo. The problem for me that no one in charge observes the thread. I still have no reply what's the future of extras-devel import. I did an update to meecolay-core. It's in the meecolay repo. And if a user just "apt-get upgrade"-s, he loses access to meecolay repo. And the package enabling the repo is now in... the meecolay repo..

What's worse, the extras assistant acts as if everything was alright. Someone might upload a package and never get it build.

/edit: I contacted joerg

This is nothing to do with the repositories
.
This is the autobuilder and it is still down.
Last I heard the person employed by Nokia to fix it is away on sick leave.

Please see:-

http://wiki.maemo.org/Migrating_to_C...Infrastructure

The only current issue with the repo's are extras-devel which has a hash sum mismatch issue.
This is worked around with a mirror.
TBH you may as well disable devel as no apps can come through anyway.

Re: [GENERAL NOTICE] Service Downtime

People know about the issue, but right now the focus is on getting things setup so everything is transferred from Nokia to our new admin team. It's slow going, but once that happens, we won't have to rely on a third party to fix the issues. (And, won't have them to rely on... two edged sword.)

It's not being forgotten... It's just that there is a lot more going on right now, and we personally can't do a lot until the hand over is complete. The hopes are that will be very soon.

From my viewpoint this isn't strictly true. Nemein seems willing (and perhaps somewhat relieved) to let the council and community volunteers have access and fix things. Why is the hashsum issue any different? Personally, I'd like to see council focused on fixing hashsum issues in devel now, and then builder. HF should get out of the way of council, and focus on negotiating sign over from Nokia.

IMO. Currently Nokia and Nemein doesn't seem interested in a timely resolution to the technical issues still plaguing the infrastructure.

To whoever is able to fix this: the box at 188.117.59.198 (test.maemo.org) keeps trying to send me stuff from <www-data@wiki_and_bugs.maemo.org>, while advertising itself as mail.maemo.org. That is broken on so many levels :-(

[2013-02-24 01:41:32] <DocScrutinizer05> I seem to have complained about this some several weeks ago, nobody found my report worth investigating

That's helpful, thanks.

For somebody with a N900 (not a N9) then all that would be needed for firmware is the portion under /srv/firmware not under /srv/firmware/N9/ ?

Also, any tutorials somewhere to create a local mirror?

Re: [GENERAL NOTICE] Service Downtime

I am tired ... why can't I find and download items I know exist in repository ?

i am looking for x11vnc and i've been looking for it in the entire site but it's hiding somwhere I can't tell where .

all of the problems I have are mainly because I can't install applications as i could before . FAPMAN and HAM are not working when I try to install some applications , when it happens I search the entire site to find the thing I want , download it , connect my phone to the PC and copy the file , next open the file ( .deb ) and find out some goddamn dependency is myssing !?!

am I the only one with this problem ?
or , is there an easy way to fix this problems that I have ?
thanks!

To some things, yes. To other things, not so much. While we have some access to some of the devices, it's far from full control.

Let's also not forget that a lot of this stuff used to live in a very different structure than it does now (before migration), and most of it was highly augmented to do what it does. It's not just apt-get-ing a repo package and starting services. There's lots of custom bits that are now half working. The hashsum issue is a clear example of that. There are scripts one can normally run to rebuild those indexes. But when done, something else is coming along and breaking things again. Tracking down what that is can be difficult, especially when one has limited access.

That's been true off and on for a while now, and is another source of headache entirely. The problem is that a lot of the custom tweeks are only fully understood by folks at Nemein, since they've been the ones running/admin-ing it for the past decade.

Doing a knowledge transfer on all of that would be tough enough to do in a couple weeks if we all had 8 hours a day to sit together in a room. Harder still when we're scattered across the globe, in different time zones, and all have day jobs to attend to as well.

Re: [GENERAL NOTICE] Service Downtime

Thanks Woody. I understand it's not going to be a smooth transition, but I believe with the help of some of the smart folks in our community, we'll get it all up and running smoothly again.

And hopefully documented. ;)

Unable to update via HAM/FAM

2 Attachment(s)
The last update I have made was the one: 21.2011.38-1Smaemo6 (10.01.2013). Since this time I could't update the repos. I didn't change anything, except to disable the nokia repos.
What shall I do to get HAM / FAM working again?

Re: [GENERAL NOTICE] Service Downtime

Sorry for the stupid question, but I can't find a definitive answer after reading a bunch of threads for the last hour.

What's the proper apt update procedure these days? I only care about the repository.maemo.org repos. Should I switch to the skeiron mirror, or something else?

If I comment out the nokia.com repos from /etc/apt/sources.list.id/hildon-application-manager.list and then do apt-get update & apt-get upgrade, then I'm just prompted to reinstall apt, which overwrites my changes to that file.

Re: [GENERAL NOTICE] Service Downtime

jacktanner,

Don't comment out from that file manually. Use HAM to do whatever you want to that file. You can do in terminal as root:
Code:

echo "213.128.137.22 repository.maemo.org" >>/etc/hosts
This way HAM, apt etc will all use the new repo.maemo.org which has solved all issues ;)

Thanks, that worked. I hadn't updated in a few months, and I was very surprised there were only 4 updates to my packages, all from extras-devel. Does that seem odd?

Auto-builders been broken for longer than repos, I doubt there was many updates due to this.

Re: [GENERAL NOTICE] Service Downtime

((crosspost for those not following on migration#2 thread))

Starting tomorrow (Tue) ~1900UTC we'll possibly put (some) services into read-only mode, to do the pre-final sync. Absolutely final sync will happen when DNS got switched to new server IPs (scheduled for Thu 1700UTC) and we can shut down services on old infra
Services on *old* that go r/o will stay like this until that point in time. And services on *new* will go r/o or even down for a short while (max a few hours) after DNS switch happened
