I wonder why this isn't part of the basic system functionality yet.

So it is not a problem that you only now got copy-paste and browser is crashing, but you can't understand why this feature is not there by default? :)

BTW, I might have found an workaround for the cyclic browser crash: Try to switch to airplane mode. That should load the "you have no Internet" placeholder page, potentially interrupting the crash cycle.

Tried this just once so far, but 'll try to do it again once my browser enter the cycle again & will report back (here or in the question on Together).

Yes but it must be something related to the startpage at the guardian as www.theguardian.com/uk-news (and every other subpage I'm using) doesn't crash the browser (I think any banner or whatever eats ram and the browser can't handle this ...)

I think their browser is based on Chromium? On my Ubuntu laptop I once had frequent crashes, in particular with the current (horrible) desktop version of Linkedin. This was solved with an Ubuntu update that upgraded Chromium to a newer version.

It isn't. It is mozilla based.

What happens to the patchmanager's web catalogue patches? "Show album's art on lockscreen" and "Voicecall combined patch" still not compatible with 2.1.0.11 (though these should not be different to the 2.1.0.10 ones).

ZogG is not a native English speaker. What I think he meant (and why I thanked his post) is something like, "So you don't mind that we had to wait for three years to get 'select and copy' in the browser and that the browser is constantly crashing, but you find the missing 'choose the default browser' feature a problem?"

Normally you can still install them even if they're only marked as compatible with a previous version. You might need to enable developer mode (in patchmanager), though.

No, you did not. Which I think was ZogG's point.

Not that I agree with ZogG on everything, but he has a point that there are still a lot of problems in Sailfish. Some of them are very basic things but they have been left there for such a long time that we have become accustomed to them and no longer even talk about them. Nothing to do with you personally.

True that, too.
People get accustomed to working around problems and hitches, and the workarounds and hacks get integrated into their workflow and soon are not even noticed any longer as hindurances...

Thats just how Windows(TM) and macOS(TM) are working from rev 1 till today ;-) - people get used to it - thats why I try to use (or at least just try) every available OS on computers and mobile devices (ok not every available desktop-linux to be honest) to stay open for improvements and new ideas - but as I keep returning to XFCE and macOS(TM) on the desktop, iOS on the tablet and Sailfish on my mobile it seems I'm already caught in the "used-to" trap ;-)

For sure I agree on that, there are many one-line fixes that would improve the OS tenfold but for some mysterious reason stay unfixed forever*, and instead we get crap like the Messages and Notes cover redesigns no one asked for and no one wants. The comment just came out of nowhere.

* The Phone application still does not show the keypad by default, switching to a different ambience still destroys all settings for the default sounds, it's still impossible to connect to networks like eduroam through the GUI (not counting the Roamer application by nodevel, that proves this is not a very difficult thing to add), and so on. It's also still impossible to pay for applications on the Store and Jolla still keep lying about freeing more source code of the wholly unnecessarily proprietary parts of the OS. I could go on for days.

How's that? What do you mean with default sounds?
My sounds don't change when I switch between ambiences.

My sounds don't change when I switch between ambiences.

Set the default ringtones (in Settings -> Sounds and feedback) to custom ringtones, then put different ringtones as the actions for a certain ambience (in Settings -> Ambiences). Once you switch to this ambience from your current one, your ringtones will change to the ones defined by the ambience. The problem is, this change in ringtones is not temporary, instead it actually changes the default ringtones you just defined in Settings. This means you lose all your default ringtones every time you change to an ambience that has custom ringtones, and the ambience ringtones become the defaults. Going back to your previous ambience has no effect, unless you had also put custom ringtones on that one, and then that ambience changes your default ringtones once again. To top this off, even if you remove the ringtone actions from Jolla's ambiences, they return after every update, and if you happen to select one of Jolla's ambiences before removing those custom ambience ringtone actions again, you'll have a lot of fun setting up all your ringtones yet again, every time.

Complicated explanation, but the problem is simple, which is precisely why it's so frustrating.

Hmm ok I see, I don't use many ambiences and the only action they have is for the alarm music (my phone is most of the time in silent mode anyway).

So here is another "workaround / hack to integrate into your workflow" ;): Create a "default" ambience with all your default sounds and apply it temporarily as an intermediary step when you want to switch to another ambience.

 Since the update, I have sometimes trouble silenting calls or dismissing alarms. Both uses the bottom-up sliding gesture. Did anybody experience similar? Strangely it sometimes seems to be connected somehow with Coderus's Battery Overlay. I usually see that BO has stopped, when this sliding problem happens. Even more strange is, when I restart BO, sliding bug is fixed,...:o

As I inherited an old mako (Nexus 4) this week:
Does anyone of you guys know how to upgrade it to Iijoki?
There's http://repo.merproject.org/obs/nemo:...shos_2.1.0.11/ – but when I simply change the release to 2.1.0.11 and urls to "devel" in the OTA-directions, it doesn't find jolla-hw-adaptation-hybris when doing version --dup.
I've used CM11-base as described in the wiki.
Pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

@velox, there is no 2.1.x release for mako yet, as far as I know. Without proper release, I wouldn't recommend updating via version --dup - many things can break.

You should probably ask for status on IRC and see if ballock can give you an update. I used to assist him with the port earlier, but don't have much time for it anymore due to other commitments. Haven't seen ballock active on IRC either, as much as I followed it from the logs.

mako port would probably need some new active porter(s) that could test/develop on it. So, if you have time and a wish to work on it, I would recommend to ask on corresponding IRC channel for help. The porters are amazing in helping out with the ports and would help you regardless of your level.

If you look on https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Ada...ishOS_for_mako it should be possible to OTA to 2.1.0.11.

But I think the issue @velox is having, is due to trying to use 'devel' repository.

Try to OTA by simply doing this:

Code:

devel-su sed -i -e 's#^adaptation=.*$#adaptation=http://repo.merproject.org/obs/nemo:/testing:/hw:/lge:/mako/sailfish_latest_armv7hl/#' \
/usr/share/ssu/repos.ini

ssu release 2.1.0.11

ssu er mw
ssu ar dhd http://repo.merproject.org/obs/nemo:/testing:/hw:/lge:/mako/sailfish_latest_armv7hl/

devel-su zypper clean -a
devel-su zypper ref -f

version --dup

Not really, the last release is gamma8, 2.0.5.6. The fact that you can run these commands and get something resembling 2.1.x is surely not encouraged. With each SFOS release, each ported device has to get itself properly ported. As far as I understand, some packages are provided only via device-specific repos. These packages will not be updated (since they don't exist yet, we have to compile them as a part of porting) if you run update before port is ready.

I would suggest to stick to 2.0.5.6 and ask on IRC about the status of the port.

Thanks guys!

@nieldk I think my first try (resulting in not booting anything) was only changing the $RELEASE. Didn't mention that because I'm actually not really sure that's what I did – That was just playing around for a few minutes on a work break.

@rinigus I'm a bit pressed for time as well, lately, but it may be a good opportunity to learn something new. I'll at least look into the HADK stuff a bit and then see If I can get myself to use IRC again for the first time in 15 years :)

2.1.1.12 - On the Tablet the most critical bugs seems not solved yet:

Bluetooth: Activation not possible in 90% of cases
Screenshots - Empty files

WiFi seems to working fine. But it was also quite ok with 2.1.0.11
