anyway I ordered a soft nokia pouch for now :/ until mobile fun has them in stock.

I've also heard that some have damaged their N900 applying water based screen protectors, due to the front of the phone not being so water resistant. Bear that in mind when applying something such as invisibleSHIELD, be careful. :)

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Dear Maemo bloggers

As a director of Mobile Phones Direct that operates Nokia Retail stores, firstly let me apologise if N900 delivery dates supplied by our staff we're incorrect - This was not our intention.

To clarify: Yes, Mobile Phones Direct has an exclusive on the N900 and is able to 'exclusively connect the N900 to Vodafone pay monthly and offer the N900 Free'. The N900 is also available SIM Free for £499 direct from nokia.co.uk. If you buy a Free N900 connected to Vodafone in any Nokia store in the UK, we will be the company connecting it, and stock arrived in all these stores at the same time. We were not aware that nokia.co.uk had stock before us and if they did, they would only be supplying this N900 stock SIM Free. If you would like to buy the N900 SIM Free I would have no hesitation in recommending nokia.co.uk rather than nokiaretail.co.uk. The N900 will not be available to our knowledge (and as advised by Nokia) anywhere else until 2010 other than these Nokia direct sales channels.

Our staff, combined with Nokia have been working hard to ensure that all pre-orders are delivered on fair, first ordered, first delivered basis. Stock is still very limited and is being delivered to our stores in small batches, we however expect that all pre-orders taken up and until last Friday will be shipped during this week, and then after within our usual next day delivery service.

I fully take on-board all of your comments and we are currently working on future solutions to better cope with exclusive Nokia product launches, including a huge investment in our IT systems, and communications.

I really hope that your all 100% pleased with your N900 when you receive it - It's a fantastic product.

If any of you have a specific problem that I can help you with, please email me at karl.borges@nokiaretail.co.uk and I will do my best to resolve the problem for you.

Kind regards and sincere apologies.

Karl Borges

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Cheers Karl for you comments and insight. I think most issues people were facing was the lack of any real time communication between Nokia/MPD and customers. When information was forthcoming alot was hear say and conjecture with timescales varying from person to person and company to company. Indeed this still provails with alot of people been told that first come first served is still been adhered to by MPD when it blatently is not as seen by many posts in this thread. I thanks you for your post but I think some damage was done to MPD reputation on this site and the community as a whole. But that said the free postage and packaging went a little towards the misunderstandings that have left so many frustrated.
This is only my opinion and does not directly reflect that of the whole community.

I tried that before, I was told to come back after 10:30 because drivers had not brought back the undelivered parcels yet. Then again, that might just be my lazy sorting office, yours might be worker bee heaven. ;) Its worth a try.

Not too bothered that the invoice turned up but the phone didn't (well actually I'd have preferred the otherway around). Special delivery on Saturdays is rare in these parts.
So Monday morning it is then!!!

This one looks identical to the Sonic Ericsson one I used for my Xperia X1 and planned to use for my N900, just with a different brand on it.

So its the Sheffield sorting office that is most lazy then? As they always say "allow 48 hours before collection".

I have tried quicker than that before, but they always go "oh, it hasn't arrived back yet". I have had things attempted on a Friday that have not returned back until Tuesday, its pathetic and the posties/drivers should not be allowed to take the damn post home with them, but they do. No wonder things go missing.

Many thanks for your post Karl and taking the time to address some issues which many of us had.
Not wanting to repeat previous post, but I believe the main issue was the lack of communication/customer service.
For me, the fact you have atleast taken the time to post an apology on here has given me a little more confidence in dealing with your company and it is much appreciated by me (and I would assume by many other users/customers)
I guess in hindsight, the very nature of this handsets ability has made it extremely popular and you guys have been the "first port of call" to get your hands on one (on a contract)
I can imagine and appreciate both you and your staff have been overwelmed with emails/calls etc..and working around the clock to sort out.
I am not in possession of my handset as yet but as I ordered Nov 19th, there are guys way ahead of me in the despatch queue and I am willing to wait.
Anyway, thank so much for your post and taking time out on a Sunday (day of rest) to update us all. Its reassuring to know your company do indeed care about the service you provide.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

My main issue is it was NOT sent out on a first ordered basis at all, they went for the easiest first (free phone) and THEN started on people who were part-paying for their phones.

The end result that people who ordered a month after me got their phones 4 days before me (assuming it turns up on Monday). This is totally unacceptable as the whole point of pre-ordering is because they are supposed to be shipped first ordered, first shipped.

Yeah I totally agree Alex, thats very unfair on you and others who "part paid" for the handset.
I kinda guess MPD just wanted to get the handsets out as quick as they could and as a result yours has been delayed.
Mind you the logistic responsible in getting these handset despatched "in a first come, first served" basis must be a nightmare considering the amount of handsets, any royal mail delays and probably the fact MPD has only a set number of staff working to get them despatched.
But saying that, still a shame you have had to wait and someone else got theirs 4 days before you (even worse - they ordered 1 month after you!!)

The fact is, they cheated. From what I have heard they did free shipping for people who got a free phone so they wouldn't have to ring them to re-authorise the card. If mine does not also show free shipping I will be even more upset.

It would not have been any easier If they had done it on a fair, first ordered first shipped basis. It only was easier because they cheated by not charging these people for shipping. Maybe they will charge later, but someone was told by MPD they were basically being offered free shipping as an apology of some sort.

I would love to know how they are going to apologise to me then. They get an apology for having to wait less time for their phone (shipped first AND ordered later) and paying MPD less money. I get punished for ordering earlier (so waiting longer to begin with) and paying more up-front.

It just makes no sense.
