I've given up. I've ordered an HTC Desire and I'm selling my N900 on Mazuma. I'm losing around £100. I bought the device knowing that I was an "early adopter" and expecting some loose ends. But I also expected frequent updates from Nokia, filling in the gaps and fixing the bugs. Instead I feel like Maemo has been abandoned by Nokia - I can't see any sign of the OS being promoted or developers encouraged to build apps. At least I know that plenty of people are developing apps for Android. I am disappointed, I really wanted to see the N900 succeed.

When it comes I predict that a number of people will think it solved their problems when in fact reinstalling the old firmware would also have solved their problems. They will never know that, though.

I just asked my 2 local Nokia reps if they had any info on the update. Both guys (one is named Zager and the other Evans) gave me the same answer. It went a little something like this....

Does anybody knew how many devs Nokia have dedicated to Maemo 5 (excluding the Meego people)?

Or is Maemo some low priority thing, they play with when they waiting for Meego to compile and it's not coffee break or so?

I think the dev teams are different. Considering how hard the HK release is being pushed, I doubt maemo is low priority

And yes, that's considerably fewer posts than that thread once held. Please try to keep conversation reasonably polite and constructive.

I understand a great deal of anticipation has built up in the community during this wait for PR1.2. However, try to keep in mind that while PR1.2 should bring a number of bug fixes and a few new features, it is a point release. The importance being placed on this minor firmware revision is causing conflict now and will likely lead to disappointment later.

Seeing this commercials with N8 and N900, I start to believe that PR1.2 still worths waiting for. Exact release date doesn't make a lot of difference, but since QT is being hardly promoted by Nokia, we might get a handful of useful apps in the summer. This is good indeed.

It may be that Nokia will wait for a couple of week to be sure of good PR 1.2. feedbacks from China, and have a reasonable time to fix latest bugs before invading other countries.
