Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v49 in Extras-Devel

Well I think I tried it with the latest binary and with and without the fmtx-faker and it didn't work. But I'll try again someday. But I'm not sure if I need Power kernel right now since my n900 is working better than ever. :)

I tried kpv49 but I ithink I'll downgrade
After locking it takes about 5 seconds to lanunch an app from the dwsktop shortcut
The shortcut doesnt change its color as it should

Reflash and install kernel-power49 and the latest CSSU.

If the problem's not there, it's likely in a shitpatch/broken swappolube settings/locking CPU speed to 250-250.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v49 in Extras-Devel

Using kp49 and it's modules, I can't seem to find cdrom.ko, sr_mod.ko, and sg.ko, necessary to use optical disc readers/writers (cd, DVD's etc).

AFAIK, this problem should be fixed in kp48, so how come I'm unable to locate these modules in /lib/modules/2.6.28.10-power49? Is it some fault on my side, or kp49 glitch?

When i try to record a video it gives me operation failed. Can't find a solution. Camera works fine with original kernel.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v49 in Extras-Devel

Hi,
I recently got used N900 which never had been updated to either CSSU or any kernel tweaks. I've updated to latest testing CSSU and then installed kernel-power along with settings but it gave me only version 42. I've run apt-get update but i cannot see any update related to 49. My old N900 had no problems with kernel updates so far and i dont know what is causing this. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
PS i dont know if this is related to any of the above but i cannot view pics taken with the camera. Error-Cannot open. File type not supprted. Again any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply but devel is already enabled. I will disable/enable it once again just in case.

Remember to update package cache after enabling/disabling repositories. Do it, by using appropriate option in application manager of Your choose, or by...
Code:

apt-get update
...as root from teminal. Do not confuse 'update' with 'upgrade', though.

Hi Estel,

thanks but like i said im confused why this is all working on one and not on my other device. I mean im doing exactly every step that i have used before and somehow i still dont see 49 in app list or as an update. Also if you can help me with that error regarding picture viewing thay would be great.
Thanks

I guess I'll be going back to the Nokia kernel until KP is fixed.

...Wishing to help everyone (like me) that has a N900 (2104) very reluctant to be overclocked, AND for EVERYONE THAT THINKS that KP49 has STABILITY PROBLEMS.....:D

After a 3 weeks of stressssss test with intensive MAKE, video recording, phone calls, video calls, ecc ecc...

Here it is my kernel-power default profile:

/etc/default/kernel-power

# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - CREATE A COPY OF IT FOR CUSTOMIZATION
# minimum frequency to use
MINFREQ=125
# maximum frequency to use
MAXFREQ=805
# list of frequency configurations: each "frequency:volt,dsprate"
FREQS="0:25,90 125:25,90 250:35,180 500:40,360 550:45,400 600:48,430 720:52,520 805:56,600 850:60,600 900:60,600 950:60,600 1000:60,600 1100:72,600 1150:72,600"
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=0
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=1
GOVERNOR=ondemand
UP_THRESHOLD=95
SAMPLING_RATE=300000
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=0
POWERSAVE_BIAS=0

FOR ME, with this profile, my device is ROCK SOLID, about 3days of standby or 24 hours of standby plus 8 hours of wifi connection with a ssh login.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v49 in Extras-Devel

Hell yes!
For me, the KP49 is some sort of wholy grail for the n900!
Finally, I don't have to worry about charging it every single day, and it runs rock-stable here.

@mooninite:
Have you ever considered to reflash your device (may backup your current config with backup-menu) only to determine if some issue caused by another application/tweak/whatever?
Don't get me wrong, I am not one of the windows-style guys who reflash their devices every week, but you're one of a very small number of guys where kp49 does not run stable and I think it would be important to figure out if it is really a kp49-related problem or not.

For my own part, I will never return to nokia-kernels at all.

Despite of this and to all other readers of this thread:
Have a happy new year!

CU Michael

@all

Hi guys, I've changed SmartReflex efuse values calculations, will you please test .debs from here and report (especially those of you having problems with SR vdd1 enabled)

And PLEASE test it with dsp profile loaded, not with your custom profile or some crappatch/batterysuckpatch installed.

@hurrian - as it seems your device is one of the most unstable ones re SR, will you please test this kernel. I will really appreciate that.

BTW this kernel has some other goodies as well:

- device should no longer enter reboot mini-loop with charger/USB cable connected when you try to power-off/restart it.
- camera driver could capture directly to framebuffer memory (those of you who don't know what is that, just leave it)

Wish you all happy New Year

Great improvement: the phone doesn't bomb a few seconds after loading the "dsp" profile.

I'll be back tomorrow when I test H.264 Baseline playback because (1) I think I broke my codecs somehow (I didn't, the video was just broken), and (2) I wiped my microsd card accidentally a few weeks ago. I'm going to encode some content tonight while I watch the fireworks. Happy new year, guys!

EDIT: Initial test result: phone doesnt bomb trying to play the video; dsp just clams up and closes the video stream gracefully. The video I played was whatever the highest quality setting was on the CSSU-T camera-ui2.

I'm going to retry the experiment with H.264 Baseline tomorrow.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v49 in Extras-Devel

@xes: not so bad, DSP being unstable when overclocked is somehow expected. The very good news is that MPU is stable. Next year I will compile a new version which will make a little voltage boost when DSP is overclocked, thus making SR rock stable(hopefully).

EDIT:
memory_sync_page is a different story, it is not related to SR

EDIT2:
or you could move your DSP overclocking frequencies to higher MPU frequencies i.e. instead of 720,520 805,600 you could try 720,480 805,560 850,600

Post of the year 2011.

EDIT: Is there any way you can measure DSP load? I think that's a better metric of raising/lowering DSP voltages.

I've tested the .debs Freemangordon posted yesterday, and they work without problems. But I must say that the old ones also worked fine for me.

If anything, the video recording looks less smooth, but that may be a coincidence.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v49 in Extras-Devel

Bumping the thread as I need more feedback whether new Smartreflex Efuse calibration re-calculation is stable or not.

Please those of you who have had problems with sr_vdd1 enabled in KP49 to test the new build. If you have problems when DSP is overclocked, just lower your DSP frequencies, or move 520 and 600 DSP clocks to higher MPU frequencies. Not all DSPs can handle 600 MHz at SR calculated voltage for 805 Mhz MPU frequency.

EDIT:
Could you also test default profile, which has limits 250-600 (no overclocking), but sr_vdd1 enabled.

With Default profile I had no problems but all programs are a bit slow (or maybe is my imagination)

But the battery life it is much more improved for me: as with
kp48 = got about 14 to 16 hrs
kp49 = got about 19 to 21 hrs (with my own profile)
new .deb as 31/12/2011 = with 19% consume got 11 hrs and still running as not fully tested yet.

all the above battery life tested as basic on few phone calls, sms, web, e-mail, music.

Edit: after the spbtv error had to reboot as I could not play any videos

Could you please test default profile too? Seems like I won't be able to avoid /sys/power entry for manual adjustment of SR Efuse values for overclocking DSPs like yours.

But before that last measure, could you please lower DSP frequency for 720 and 805 MPU, i.e. something like 500 for n20 and 560-580 for 805?
