Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I try to install this Android app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...?id=one.dot.fm and i can't because of this error from google play: "This app is incompatible with your device." How can i fix this? |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
@kollin, have you tried installing from one of the non-Google stores?

Later downloaded and installed the app from 1Mobile Market without any issues. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I've experienced this 3 times so far... just want to see if anyone else has too.
Double tap device to wake up, but for about 20-30 seconds (or at least it seems that long) the screen just refuses to respond to anything - slide up, slide down, slide side, etc. After the 20-30 seconds, everything suddenly is peachy and works perfectly. |

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Screen wake up has been fine fro me on double tap. However sometimes I cannot end a call as the screen will not wake after going black from proximity detection.

I would figure you wont have the same problem in Malaysia. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
It's been cold in Malaysia recently... averaging about 25C in the evening. Probably not the reason... I didn't notice the battery percentage the first 2 times, but the most recent occurrence was with 80%+++ charge remaining.

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I'm in malaysia as well. i see a different problem related to the screen. happened once ( i think it's software related). phone wakes up, i look at screen. within about 10 seconds screen turns off.
a reboot fixed it. i don't think your problem is battery related. btw, my phone slows and UI becomes jerky when i access the mail app while i am updating mails. is that what everyone gets? usually happens when i have a lot to sync. i also managed to make the phone hang to the point when i double tap i only see backlight turning on. nothing on screen. but i know phone is still running because i was in a call using a BT headset and i could hear the other party speak. he couldn't hear me though. reboot fixed it. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
My guess is that it is connection related. At least I have this behavior of screen not unlocking for a few seconds until it reconnects to my wireless network.
Maybe it also happens with 3g network or so. |

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
i am seeing this issue again today. screen goes dark / turns off after only 5 seconds. double tap turns screen on again but it goes back to where i left off and not the lock sceeen.
edit: found that this is only triggered if phone is set to silent mode. edit2: correction. 1. if i set the phone to audible mode, problem disappears. 2. if i set the phone to silent mode, problem reappears 3. after about 30minutes, i tried setting phone to silent mode again and problem didn't reoccur. i'll try to find a way to reproduce it consistently. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I noticed 3 blurry dots on the front camera images, what causes this? Dirt or dust?
|
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
@droll
I can confirm: I had exactly the same during the weekend: screen goes black in 5 seconds, double tap to unlock lands on the last used screen.. I didn't notice relation with silent mode activation. To get rid of this behaviour I had to reboot. There is a bug report created at TJC: https://together.jolla.com/question/...a-few-seconds/ please vote to get attention guys. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
agreed zlatko. i have reported it @ together.jolla too.
but in my case, toggling the silent / audible mode fixed the problem. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Does anyone else have the same experience...?
For me, the direction that I have to swipe an application cover, to activate its' cover actions, is not logical. For example, looking at the Phone app cover, it has a number keypad on the left. So, to my mind, I would expect that I need to swipe my finger to the left. But it works the other way around. So I found I kept on activating the wrong cover action! I suspect that Jolla engineers have already discussed & decided how this works. But I wonder if this could be changed? (I guess it would affect a lot of people!) Or maybe there can be a setting for this behaviour? |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
just imagine the keypad on the left means the keypad is to the LEFT of the cover. therefore to bring it into the middle of the cover where your view is you need to swipe to the right.
that to me is intuitive and i picked that up right away. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Little tinkering around... I installed a Zarafa server with Z-push active sync. It works pretty well with Jolla's exchange sync. Just one question... has anyone been able to change the default calendar in Jolla? I can only create new meeting to default calendar which doesn't sync to my server. If I create an appointment in server, it will sync to my device but I just can't create new ones from the phone. Also, it would be nice to be able to sync all contacts to the server, but so far I haven't found out how to do it.
|
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Calendar sync is pretty rubbish at the moment. I am awaiting feature updates to improve this, one of the few things I miss.
|
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
there are some android apps there that handle calendar and emails independently. i found some for exchange but they are paid apps.
i'll survive on OWA for now if i need to do anything that the internal apps don't handle. |

Also, i am REALLY REALLY growing frustrated with the WLAN connectivity. It is still totally like a shot in the dark for me. Issues are so bad that I normally don't even use WLAN with the phone. Also, some android apps have started to behave weirdly, as one can inform me that I do not have connection to the network, but on the same time I am happily surfing the web with firefox or Webcat. This happens also with GSM network. But still, jolla is growing better every day. I changed back to N9 for awhile, but after week or so, I was already eager to start using Jolla again :D |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Any recommendations on a CLI network monitoring tool? pkcon doesn't seem to have vnstat - is there anything else I could try?

PS: nieldk, I found parted, zypper and vim for sailfish expectionally useful, thank you! Hopefully after I got my phone back in working order again I'll be able to use them again (please). |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
not sure if this has been posted before but today i discovered it is possible to stand the jolla phone up on the table like the N900 with its kickstand.
just rest the jolla phone in landscape mode on the side and you can watch videos. my son discovered this and i was surprised i didn't try it earlier. :) edit: only works if you have it resting on the side that doesn't have the power and volume buttons. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Some good news about the upcoming release, from TJL, @bijjal: "Landscape mode in Browser, keyboard and gestures will be part of the upcoming release."
EDIT: And features included in 1.0.3.3 being tagged with "jan14" there: https://together.jolla.com/questions...:jan14/page:1/ So far tagged: 1. Landscape mode in keyboard, gestures, browser and messages 2. Differentiate native SailfishOS and Android apps in Jolla store 3. Show slash (/) in the on-screen keyboard of the browser 4. Confirm calling from call list to prevent pocket calls 5. In calendar app it should be possible to select agenda and enter location Nice find @jjaone! :) |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I like all them and have voted for all but the last one, which has just been a recent issue for me so glad it's included.
NFC patch is NOT in this release, just so everyone doesn't remove their bits of tin foil :D Not seen Dave999s sig lately, has he got a countdown timer going ? :) |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
It may have been asked in one of the 255 pages ...but is there any way to set folder to be ignored in the gallery section. I have over 1000 album art pictures clogging it up along with a load of pictures from a car manual taht I would like to exclude.
Many thanks |

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I have just read about this new package in Debian Unstable for mounting MTP gadgets as a filesystem:
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/main/jmtpfs I'm sure lot of people will be interested ;) Waiting for a hardware keyboard for Jolla, surviving with a N900 without USB port. an external charger and two batteries. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

then go to settings -> apps -> people there should be an option on the 2nd half of the screen for "From file" and you should see your vcf files automatically detected. tap on the file to import. |

Why don't you try the following: Code:
invoker --type=generic vcardconverter bigfile.vcf |
