@qole
Yes I like the default colours better. I think it's easier to read the text on the light background.

I should delete the old image or it will overwrite?

hstende: You can change the theming, you know. It is easier than running stuff through ssh -X.

The cool thing about running an SSH server in the chroot is that you can run your Easy Debian apps on OTHER COMPUTERS. Try running Easy Debian OpenOffice or Gimp on a full PC on the same network as the N900 by using the ssh -X technique! Very, very cool.

Just save your work frequently. ;)

fw190: I would recommend replacing the old image with the new one, so yes, use the "Close Debian" command and then delete the old image before installing the new one.

If you have installed a lot of new stuff into your image, then you'll have to do that again, and you'll have to set up your locale again too...

Ok, ok, the flurry of updates is coming to an end. I think 0.9.44-1fremantle1 is going to Testing (and ten days later, to Extras).

Thank you all for your patience!

This version has the Function-keys mapped to shift-fn + top row keys (for english keyboards). Your custom .xbindkeysrc won't be overwritten, however. Look for the .xbindkeysrc.dist file after upgrade.

Having not found 0.9.44-1fremantle1 anywhere but 0.9.44-2fremantle1 on Extras-devel, I've installed the latter and looked at .xbindkeysrc.dist.

qole, as far as I can see, you've mapped shift+fn+the upper row of the German keyboard to F1-F10, because F6 is Shift+Mod5 + z as it was in my .xbindkeysrc file. I think that by using only the keycodes one can actually cover both qwerty and qwertz keyboards at the same time - and hopefully all other national variants.

Code:

# F1-F12 mapped to Shift+Mod5 + keys from upper row:

"xvkbd -text "\[F1]""
 m:0x81 + c:24

"xvkbd -text "\[F2]""
 m:0x81 + c:25

"xvkbd -text "\[F3]""
 m:0x81 + c:26

"xvkbd -text "\[F4]""
 m:0x81 + c:27

"xvkbd -text "\[F5]""
 m:0x81 + c:28

"xvkbd -text "\[F6]""
 m:0x81 + c:29

"xvkbd -text "\[F7]""
 m:0x81 + c:30

"xvkbd -text "\[F8]""
 m:0x81 + c:31

"xvkbd -text "\[F9]""
 m:0x81 + c:32

"xvkbd -text "\[F10]""
 m:0x81 + c:33

"xvkbd -text "\[F11]""
 m:0x81 + c:59

"xvkbd -text "\[F12]""
 m:0x81 + c:22

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

rebhana: good catch. I changed the "comma" but I missed the "z". Will update to the keycodes and issue a new version. Is there an application that uses F6 so we can test the keycodes on various layouts? (EDIT: tested on Iceweasel, it works fine with your keycodes!)

Everyone:
I'm torn about the top menu problems people are having. If I leave the top menu compatible with the "old" LXDE, it will not allow apps to use the top area of the screen (go underneath the bar) by default. This is a big problem, since we have so little space vertically already.

But if I update the bar to work properly in the "new" LXDE, it doesn't work at all in the "old" LXDE. It actually disappears! What to do?

Has anyone tried installing the newest version of Adobe Flash in Easy Debian? I tried but failed. I get some error about xarchiver not recognizing "ar". There are a few sites that use Flash 10 only, and it would be great to be able to view them with my powerful new n900.

djview uses almost all of the function keys as shortcuts.

Concerning the top menu, I had a curious problem also with the "new" LXDE, albeit only once so far: I was not able to click on the application icon in the upper left corner although it was visible, thus couldn't open applications from there and also had to kill LXDE instead of being able to exit normally. (When I clicked on it, the icon below it moved, but didn't open the file manager - only when I clicked that directly.) Also, I didn't remember that the displayed time next to the application icon was in such tiny font. Did that change, too?

EDIT: Would it be possible to give the user the choice over the two possible behaviors? What would one have to do to go back to the old version of the top menu?

I again encountered the problem with the application icon described above, and then it went away when restarting LXDE.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

I installed the image from page 45-46. Has the image been updated since then? Also, I edited the shortcuts in the rx-51 file and thought that they would also work in easy debian but they do not. How do I go about making shortcut keys in easy debian. It's hard without using tab, page dn, page up etc. Thanks.
