Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I wonder why there is a "permission denied" when trying to create a folder or copy anything to the USB stick attached via hen ??

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I'm rather sure that's unrelated to h-e-n and especially to physical hostmode.
I don't even see how to copy or create folders with h-e-n GUI. Please check post #9! Thanks /j |

When you uninstall the application and restart, my n900 and it did not work, only saw the Nokia logo and white background, and re-boot. I had to reinstall with flasher ... sudo flasher-3.5-F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin-f |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I'm not sure how you uninstalled it, but that would never happen when uninstaling h-e-n alone, you probably removed kernel-power and just had to reflash the kernel, not the whole image.
titan, seriously, add system-update and reboot to the package flags, they help a lot. |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
"the application" ?
uninstalling h-e-n hostmode GUI for sure shall not cause any problems with boot. h-e-n however rdepends on a feature that's provided e.g by kernel-power, which means you need to install kernel-power to be able to install h-e-n. *) Kernel-power is a linux kernel and uninstalling it obviously will leave your system in a broken state. Please refer to kernel-power howto, readme, FAQ, threads in this forum, etc. Basically "uninstalling" kernel-pwer means you are going to install the stock kernel. Never UNINSTALL a kernel! This isn't related to h-e-n though *) [edit] Depending on method to install hostmode GUI, this installation of kernel-power may happen automatically, and I heard a few minutes ago that fapman might also do a BAD thing and try to uninstall the kernel automatically on uninstalling hostmode GUI. My take on this is: I introduced kernel hostmode API version, so GUI can check at runtime if the kernel has h-e-n patches or not. So I think the already implemented check for this version in hostmode GUI is sufficient and we should NOT rdepend on kernel-feature-hostmode. This would result in users getting a notifier "no compatible kernel found. Please install kernel-power!" (OWTTE) when starting h-e-n hostmode GUI. Mohammad kinda disagrees on that, and has concerns about users getting even more confused if kernel-power doesn't get auto-installed on installing GUI. So maybe it's up to you, users of h-e-n, to state clearly what you prefer. /j |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
Maybe a bit of read-learn-post is in order...

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I kinda do not mind either way,.
But would not prefer to get another (even better) engine installed in my BMW on servicing e.g. winter tires or bulb replacement. No seriously, h-e-n is a very special app, so a little knowledge about system, especially kernel and power kernel, should be present. Installation order of power-kernel and then h-e-n is sufficient, right? |

Can't see any problems, just mount it.
Have "open in file manager" unticked, will fix soon. |
