i liked the recent notification center, really resembles Harmattan.

Hopefully it will be greater than Harmattan, like directly posting FB/Twitter replies, return missed call or directly reply text/sms without having to go to another page.. :D

Yeap, exactly the thing I wanted when N9 was out, it was before the time these features were introduced on

Not fully ontopic but as we know Sqailfish is very much mer+nemo, so anyway:

zypper ref and zypper up my N900 today and found that latest update of nemomobile is even more harmattan swipe :D now with a event screen.

Yes, it looks nice on N9 too, the three-screen layout is beautiful.

Jolla hires designers behind Huawei devices, Nokia E-Series for Sailfish phone

We might see a real hardware keyboard after all? :0

Quite possibly. The most popular response on Jolla Tides handset survery with 46% of the vote was a QWERTY-slideout keyboard with touchscreen, so unless there are design/cost reasons, they'd be crazy not to go that route. It's possible they're tapping into the people who worked on the E7.

Akkumaru 2013-03-11 16:24

Jolla UI has been shown in portrait so far, so we might see a portrait slideout rather than E7 or N900 style. Better than nothing I guess.

the phone design on sailfishos.org homepage is already great

i wish to see an edge to edge phone from jolla, their phone does not need any front buttons

i also wish that their phone is the cheapest smartphone that can rival the performance of latest smartphones from their rivals

I'm not sure if they have said anything about buttons but sine they are relaying heavily on swipe on can assume no buttons. Personally I don't mind buttons at least not a dedicated camera button.

You mean a port to the N900? They've not really used it at all for internal/external work...
A community port will probably arrive to the N950/N9 before the N900, but it's possible that longer-term it may arrive in some form on the N900 too.
But both will be community ports, & not the main focus/interest for Sailfish_Alliance members, who will be focusing on Sailfish for "their" devices.
Nemo is targeted for N900 just as strongly as it is for the N9/950 (if not more), so it may be a better option longer-term.

A 'light' phone would be cool for Jolla. Like, so the phone matches the ambiance. :D

Dave999 2013-04-07 19:17

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Ambiance is a joke future like jolla pronoting like it was some revolutionary feature. It's not!

But agree. If the whole phone was ambiance the could pro one since it would be intressting and new. Jolla should show us some other stuff from the os instead of ambiance all the time. Why not show sailfish and android apps or browser or somthing.

Akkumaru 2013-04-08 00:43

Yeah I do think Jolla is pushing ambiance like it was a feature that would change how we use phones xD

genchigenbutsu 2013-04-08 02:57

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I agree. Ambiance is a nice thing to have, but I'm already mostly over it. I hope there is the option of turning the transparency off if I want.

ggabriel 2013-04-08 12:02

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

But isn't the whole idea about ambience that you set it up with a picture, then perhaps you make tweaks to it (like transparency) and all apps will look seemless [if they use the API properly]? This isn't a feature that gives you any real functionality, but I can see how a certain segment of potential customers will like it.

Dave999 2013-04-08 14:35

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Sure, it doesn't heart that is there. But its fun in max 3 seconds. After that you want to build your own Theme, Settings, Background, function. Plus, I haven't seen any API indicating that you can mess with its feature on the GUI level. Anyone look into the SDK? Any properties to enable/disable ambiance for your application?

The way sailfish silicaui handles menus is fresh and very nice IMHO.

The way it works on harmattan feels kinda akward on a swipe based UI.

My guess is pullymenus will feel even better when see it on a real device with touch feedback :)

IMHO more people should install the SDK and start emulator to check the way the UI works :)

I have started port thee of my apps already to sailfish so damn easy. And the SDK feels "more ready" than harmattan was even if sailfish SDK is called "alpha" :)

genchigenbutsu 2013-04-09 04:11

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I actually think that I will like the pulley menu, so long as it works smoothly and responsively all the time. Haptics are always a plus in my opinion also!

Although, I think that they may be annoying to use on very long pages where lots of scrolling is needed to get back to the top. Maybe they've already thought of this and there is a shortcut to get to the top that I haven't heard of as yet.

Overall though, almost everything I've seen seems to work really well & quite speedily (esp. on old hardware), I just haven't seen anything that I would consider pretty, and I think that may be partly because of the developer's affinity with this transparency.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

You can relax, it's just FUD posted by Dave, as per usual...
If it was that late*, it would almost certainly be the death-knell for Jolla.

*Which actually isn't that bad when you consider how long it took WP to mature, even today it's woefully limited in some ways.
But unlike MS, Jolla doesn't have a massive war/$ chest...

Picked this up from todays Taloussanomat in Finland:

'Only few weeks more till Jolla reveals their first phone'

Jolla, company formed by ex-Nokians, are going to release their first smartphone at the beginning of May, says the chairman of the board Antti Saarnio. At the same time the company will open a new possibility for the fans of the company to interact and affect to their own new phone.

Jolla going the same road as motogoogle and make the user select spec for the phone? Let's hope so since I want to preordained their disc phone version with 2GB and a big screen to that. Let's hope user can select size. .Give the users open source hardware.
