yes your probably wondering why the sudden jump to a new major version. well that because

WE HAVE 3D GRAPHICS ACCELERATION

other updates and changelog follow:

--changelog--
Full 3d graphics accell active and running - 2d gfx in launcher etc seems to of heavily benefited from this also.
LIVE Wallpapers work now.
2.6.28.NIT.05 REQUIRED !!

known issues:
their is huge amounts of flicker in power off dialog - nothing major enough to be a problem.
first boot still takes ages but this is normal - you can easily tell if the powervr has kicked in as the matrix screen speeds up about 10 fold
some flickering is seen in other areas of the os also, nothing huge enough to prevent release though :)

installation :
wipe ext3 partition and extract this new one over it.

quick howto:
Code:

cd /home/user/MyDocs
wget http://downloads.nitdroid.com/NITDroid-N900-the-flying-world.tbz2
bzip2 -d NITDroid-N900-the-flying-world.tbz2
mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and
cd /and
rm -rf *
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/NITDroid-N900-the-flying-world.tar

Hi DJ_Steve,

Very nice work with NITDroid!!
I am quite amazed with what you have achieved, as I thought 2D/3D acceleration would be a no-go.
I hope phone/camera support is on the way, so it can be a real alternative to Maemo/Meego, not just for gaming.

I installed a previous version some months ago and everything worked as it was supposed to, but you had by then a custom kernel, which needed to be flashed and no power/overclocking support. So I decided to wait for some time.

But now I have been trying to install this latest version for two days without success.
I have downloaded the image from the different links and from different OSes, and I always get an error at the end.

I have tried with different partitioning schemes for the mmcblk1, but none of them worked, but maybe the problem is not related to the partitioning scheme. I also tried in the irc forums but nothing has been of help. I even reflashed the phone to a clean Maemo image a couple of times, but I can't get NITDroid to work, it never loads the matrix intro.

On the other hand, I think it is very weird this error extracting the tbz2 file, but it shouldn't be a stopper, as some other people have reported it to work. And it happens just at the end, so it can be unrelated with my problem.

Could you please confirm you don't get any error/warning at the end of the extraction? I got it from Maemo console, from ubuntu and now in Snow Leopard.

I'll try to install a previous version to see if I can make it work.

Good job, keep on going!!!

You shouldn't get an error. What is the error you are getting?

follow the instructions on page 1 post 2 and wait when you are unpacking, till it is ready with it!

after doing that i should work!

you only have to wait till it is really ready wit unpacking the tbz2 file

DJ Steve,
is it possible to create some onscreen virtual buttons to replace the “back” button and other required buttons instead of changing the buttons function? a custome UI would be great :) I don't know how hard can this be. But really hope to see those virtual buttons one day.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

After rebooting from the formatting, my N900 is bricked at the multiboot selection. It just says "press a key to select" but no selection is visible. This is the second time I've tried (meaning I had to reflash) and it stops at the same spot.

Only thing that was out of the ordinary was that when trying to remove bootmenu-n900, it reported not being installed. Otherwise, everything was done as is.

Help would be appreciated.

EDIT ADD: Oh silly me. Didn't know I had to have the keyboard out.

Another thing. Is anyone else having a HUGE dpi? I like it, but some graphics are messed up. Any way to change this? :)

1. The bootmenu-n900 was another alternative bootmanager, it's not the maemo one, so in a clear install you don't have installed this package. ;)

2. DPI can be changed at /system/build.prop , edit this line:

ro.sf.lcd_density= XXX

XXX can be 160 - 240, dj_steve said 200 is optimal, but I like 240 more.

You can change it from maemo, or with a file manager and and texteditor directly in Nitdroid.

Thanks to everyone working at NitDroid, at the moment I am only unhappy about Flash - with standard cpu it's not running smooth. Could the 2D/3D gfx help, or is there only need of CPU power?!

Also, if you do like the higher DPI, you can change the number of rows and columns in ADW launcher to take advantage of the extra space :)

Menu Button (Proximity) > ADW Settings
