Nokia N9 : A Canadian Perspective
Disclaimer: This is purely my opinion & point of view. __________________________________________________ ___ Hi all, Thought of sharing my purchase story here... Why I desired the N9? 1. I currently hold an iPhone4 [Bell-Canada] & a BB-Bold [WindMobile]. 2. Bell was fleecing me since the last 1yr. Avg-$280/month. 3. I'm overwhelmed with Wind service & pricing [$25/month Unlimited]. 4. The 'similarity' of iPhone4S to it's predecessor bored* me. 5. The 'over-the-top' plan-prices of the Canadian carriers r a killer. 6. Wind & Mobilicity r our 'only saviours' here. 7. Wind currently: $29/month, Unlimited Call, Text & Data [for a yr]. 8. Mobilicity currently: $17.5/month, Unlimited as above [for a yr]. 9. Wind & Mobilicity r 'AWS/1700 band carriers [aka T-Mobile way]. 10. All others [Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido etc.] r std GSM. 11. Wind & Mobilicity have well expanded/developed. No more 'sad stories' now/again. 12. There's just no reason why we should remain with the 'big-4' anymore. 13. To be with Wind & Mobilicity we needed a HSDPA/1700 handset. 14. As of today there's no other phone like the N9 [World-Phone!]. 15. The N9 is smart, suave & too damn sexy to keep our hands-off ! My Researches & Motivation As with all of us I initially took to the net for surveying all the available AWS compatible handsets. Zeroed to the 3 new phones under discussion everywhere. Thereafter, studied N9 @ length. Besides the usual review-sites we all know about, 'maemo.org' was my alma mata. Furthermore, the discussions/detailing/explanations that some of u guys r doing in this thread & the one below, have definitely contributed to my final selection. I, especially salute 'jalyst' & 'gerbick' to help me make my mind. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ighlight=nokia From where I bought mine? It is no one else but u guys of this twin threads who directed me to all the possible store-sites. Was about to get one thru 'Kjijiji', 'Expansys', 'e-Bay' &/or 'Amazon' - then spotted SN Traders. http://sntradersonline.com/searchphonemodelhome.php At 14:20 hrs today got mine from them for $700 [all inclusive] the N9-16Gb/Black... and I'm lovin it ! NOTE: -The 64-gigs one is 'out-of-stock' - uh, my luck! -They have all the 3 colors available. -I chose black 'coz this one is utter gentlemanly! -Make: China, but every setting is Finnish. -Imported from: US -Store Warranty: 15-days -Nokia-US Warranty: 1-yr. -No carrier branding... just plain Nokia. My [common-man's] experience so far This one, the Nokia N9, rockZZZZZZZ!!! Period. Have been playing with it for 5 hrs already & I find no issues whatsoever... nothing as few ppl reported on the other forums. The screen is great, the movement soft, suave & intuitive AND the overall built-quality is awesome... very elite ! To be honest, I've never felt this quality in any phone till date. The N9 has a very 'up-market' feel. I never felt this before with my iPhones either. Believe me - what all the good reviews suggest - this one actually is all of it & better - u need to hold it in your hands to fully fathom it's gorgeousness. I've held the Nexus, Droid Razr, SGS2 & also the Lumia800 today -- this one surely/purely beats them in the looks department... especially the Black one... due to its 'screen-to-body' color amalgamation. Seriously, the icons 'float' over the bent glass! And their resolution is picture-perfect... akin to being 'painted' over the screen. As with the functionality -- what I have observed till now - it is way better than the iPhone4. I'm not going into the geeky aspects, as I'm not that tech-savvy, however purely from the end-user's angle - every swipe brings u utter joy. After the initial setup, this phone performed so smoothly that I'm surprised with myself! -How did I ever think that the iPhone4 was the ultimate mobility experience? The Nokia N9 is the penultimate mobile! Makes perfect sense that it really is! That Nokia isn't going to make another one on this platform! Who says that MeeGo is dead? This one is metaphysically eternal! Qorax ________________________________________________ *I'm with iPhones since 2007. |

Re: N9 16/64GB: worldwide availability & pricing
Which N9 are you? Black, Cyan or Magenta?
Guys, I took the Black. Why? Purely my opinion [not being judgemental & no offences meant], 'coz I think the Black is more gentlemanly; and suits our age if u r in your late 30s. While, the Cyan & Magenta r pretty -- but one might suit youngsters, while the other would be meant for ladies [I'm getting one for my spouse]. Here's a poll on the same: http://nokian9news.com/2011/06/27/wh...an-or-magenta/ Lets talk & get your opinions too... Qorax |
Re: N9 16/64GB: worldwide availability & pricing
this is a thread to talk about availability and pricing. discussions on color and which one people find to be superior belong elsewhere. it was a nice try to get me to click on your blog though, I'll give you that. It almost worked, too.

Re: N9 16/64GB: worldwide availability & pricing
Shops here, south China, are charging CNY 3999, or USD 629 now for the 16GB model.
(I got mine in Malaysia though, as it wasn't available here locally a few weeks ago). |
Re: N9 16/64GB: worldwide availability & pricing
That's a bit steep for China, it's quite a bit better here in Oz.
(best prices are about $586USD on avg). I guess that's because it's only becoming available just now. Frustrating that it's taking so long to ramp-up in so many countries (big ones too). |
