Had an accident with my back 10 days ago and was in bed for +/- 36 hours. The N810 was SUPERB during these boring times:

• Played "Flight of the Amazon Queen" and having a walkthrough-guide open in FBReader.
• Some more books in FBReader
• And some Tintin-Comics in cbrpager.
• And some movies and albums in Canola
• And web surfing over bluetooth to my N82.

It takes long to get a lock, true. Too long (especially compared to my N82 where it is superb). However, I've used it on road trips for hours and hundreds of km without a problem.
Works out of the box using telecomms standards. The problem is that most PCs don't use "proper" (standards-complilant) software, but some half-baked hacks (Skype, the new Google Talk Video).
This works very well for me. It just takes a bit too long for my taste (is that thing already using gzip or some other compression?).
All OK here - with one exception: I guess Canola sometimes screws up something about the touch input. At least that's what I see on the N800 of the kids (I Have the N810).

Please take another try to enjoy the N810 - it is really a great device.
I do however agree that the official "selling" and documentation of the device and its possible uses is sometimes overly optimistic and sometimes too basic.

Ok, now that you've given us more specifics..

1) I can't say anything about the n810's GPS. I don't own an n810, I own an n800 (similar hardware specs and OS, but slightly different).

2) Internet calling application, Nokia includes one called "internet calls [or is it internet calling?]". But as another user stated, it relies on web standards. Web standards that nobody seems to follow completly.

3) Updates/Repos being slow. I've never had this issue unless a repo was down (I have alot of 3rd party repos in my list).

4) UI is unresponsive. I don't have this problem either, for its hardware specs it works better then I thought it would. For me it's only unresponsively if I have several resource hungry apps open.

This sounds more like an internet connection issue than anything. Either your tablet has a poor connection or the server is down. The second is rare, but possible. I've had this happen various times and restarting the device helped.
Seems like a year ago would have been the best time to decide you needed some other device to meet your needs. At least you could have sold it for most of your money then and bought something that suited you better. No one here can fix this for you other than paying what the device is now worth if you put it up for sale now.

As others have mentioned, you have to pay attention to how much is running on the device as it has pretty limited RAM. If you have a couple programs running, bluetooth, wifi, several desktop widgets, etc you've pretty much maxed out the stock 128MB ram on the system. This was the most any system like this had up until recently. You seem to want to compare this device to a desktop or notebook and really ought to be comparing it to a palm or win mobile device (which only allow you to run one program at once). Besides, why should enabling swap "blow (your) mind to bits? I can't imagine you've ever run a computer before that with a full featured internet browser or video conferencing that even attempted to not use swap. I've got a decently new desktop and I wouldn't even want to try either of these tasks without swap (and especially if it only had 128MB or RAM).
Are you trying to use your device indoors by any chance? Very few gps devices work well in doors. Mine tends to behave as you describe indoors, but is able to go hours and hours on trips without losing it's GPS fix. It does take a bout 5-10(max) minutes to establish a fix if I have gone a significant distance from the location of my last fix. You don't really need to fix the problem you are describing. AGPS only helps you establish an initial fix faster. If you keep dropping losing your fix, AGPS won't help because your device should already have a general idea of where you are located from the last fix.
Not so much lower standards, but reasonable expectations. I expect the device to have limitations similar to a 2 year old pocket PC or Palm pilot. Why? Because that's about the age of the hardware it uses. I don't expect it to have the performance of even a netbook, because those devices have significantly more power than the N8x0 devices do and therefore significantly shorter battery life and significantly heavier batteries. The device is actually able to do amazing things with what it is. I mean, it can do what desktop PC's couldn't do less than 10 years ago and still fits in your pocket. So, realizing that it has limitations, I tend to only run 1 or 2 programs at a time, and close any applications or widgets that I'm not using.

If you follow my advice and it doesn't do "half the things it says..." then something is definately wrong with your device. As an aside, I'd imagine that the video calling software policy is more related to legal issues than Nokia trying to rip you off. I've never seen a computer that comes with Skype or Gizmo preinstalled (there may be computers out there, but none that I know of.) Most use a similar model to the N8x0 models which simply supply a link to an installer which adds the program.
Now all you want is just one of the features... In that case, I think you'd have to concede that the advertisements include flash, bluetooth, and linux. You've conceded that bluetooth works. I know from experience that flash does. And the system is, as advertised, a linux OS called Maemo.
If you can't get it to do what you want, put a price on the device and put the thing up for sale. You won't get all of your money back, but at least you'll get some of it (which is far better than losing all of your money on something you don't want because you're too stubborn).

I assume this was directed at my comment about how I use the gps function with a separate gps receiver. The reason for this is that I own an N800 which does not have a built in GPS receiver.
My setup works flawlessly.

Sounds like your built-in gps receiver may be defective.

Also just a point. I think of the N8X0 as a mini computer that you would purchase, it may come with some stock software that most of the time you do not use at all, or do not like, but the bottom line is that you install on it whatever you want, and set it up however you want just like you would a personal computer. It is NOT a device akin to the Iphone that comes READY out of the box, that's what you bought that's what you get done.

That's the main reason that I love the device, and that's the main reason I think you purchased the wrong device for what you needed.

I on the N800 do not experience constant sluggishness in the menus etc. as you describe. It does happen, but only if I'm overloading the unit by having way too many things open at once.

Omega you are somewhat harsh in your comments, even when some have been very civil, and I agree with the notion that you are somewhat antagonistic.

I consider myself a Newbie, when I have trouble with my tablet, and post on these forums for help, I assume an attitude of Humility, and ask questions accordingly, because I know that someone is taking time out of their life that they to help me out, when they don't have to.
I appreciate that.
You came on complaining about the N810, when you could have come on asking along the lines of "Is this device malfunctioning? should it be this slow, should the gps take so long to lock on?" etc. etc.

Nevertheless most here gave helpful suggestions right off the bat, you decided to take small puns made at the end of HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS and turn this thread into a war. Next time be more humble, throw a joke back on the pun if you'd like, and try to build on those suggestions.
That's how I would have handled it and I can guarantee you would have seen a different outcome
