Re: Maemo Greeters Pilot

About translated greeter signatures... I'm wondering if when reading a German link text ("Wiki Seite für Einsteiger"), wouldn't people expect to be directed to content in German? I mean... they do understand English, otherwise they wouldn't be here in the first place. The do understand if you link to a "Beginners' wiki page" in your signature. Having an additional German link would make me assume it's a distinct German language page.

Or am I making things too complicated?

Also, the signature as it is is quite long, even in its original English version. How about somthing like

Hi! I'm Steve J. and I'm a Maemo Greeter! Welcome.
All you need to know as a newcomer is here on this page.
If I can help with anything else, just ask!
"here on this page" would link to either a wiki page or a static page on maemo.org (or a locked, single-post thread here) that contains all the links... and more.

True, in fact, it is what I put in the french signature. I underlined the fact that all infos are still in English. We should set up a centralized place where plan language support first, in the same manner of programs or the camino browser project.

I appreciate the engagement and good ideas/questions. Some have already been addressed in this thread and the Brainstorm proposal, and I will get to the others if/when I get a break from today's craziness.

Keep in mind this is a pilot, which could mean few things are "set in stone". A Greeters wiki page is on my agenda (help appreciated there) and that could very well wind up being the main link for signatures.

Thanks all!

Shucks, t'weren't nothin'. But, I appreciate that, truly.

I'm happy to be able to contribute, to be honest - I think the community is a vibrant one that's about to get a whole lot bigger, and I'm excited to be a part of it. It's actually quite nice to finally find something I can contribute - not much of a coder or anything, I've been something of a solution awaiting a problem on this forum.

Here's to the success of the Greeters initiative!

Re: Maemo Greeters Pilot

i took a risk and put the signature to wiki page. one that shows just like the signature and another for copypaste -source to greeters. so if somebody else updates those @wiki, please modify both!
