I have 2 of these white ones. Luck of the draw I guess. Can't see them with normal usage and would not have found them if I didn't go looking. Will run that lcd flicker thing a few more times to see if that gets them going again.

Got the macro lens out for a closer look. It appears that it may not be the pixel to me but rather some light leakage from the area between the pixels. What do other people think - ?

The light source from the dot in the first picture clearly comes from between the pixels. The second I moved the black edge up to the pixel and the light bleeds accross the black area.

Looks very strange indeed, does it comes from below the panel, or is it inside the panel, between the pixels. If so it is just very poor quality control from the manufacturer of this panel, if red dust is inside the panel itself?

Looks to me like the light is breaking through between the pixels. The area between the pixels is not sealed properly and letting the light through in my opinion.

It was making me think that it was a dud pixel at first because the leaking light is being absorbed into the dark pixel making me think that the light source is actually the pixel. The area magnified to this extent shows differently.

But red light, where is it coming from, backlite is white, so must be some red light emitter in the back, maybe a defective led or so?

I beleive the light is white and not actually red. I think it shows up as red due to the cameras sensativity exposure etc etc at this magnafication.

I don't see any dead pixels on the N900 I got yesterday. I'm not going to search for them -- just like a tree falling in the forest makes no noise if no one hears it, a dead pixel isn't really dead if it is invisible.

You are quite right here, would wish I never noticed it, now I always look to see if it somehow is gone, but see it on most dark places of the UI.

On the other hand is it good to find these issues fast as possible, so Nokia can correct it if this is a general problem, and also so ve buyers can get it fixed within the warranty.

Like when the 5800 came out, the microphone issue, and built ussues got corrected fast, got mine fixed within the first month, and it got top priorities at Nokia service shops.

So if this is a common issue, and Nokia is aware of it, and willing to correct it, it should be pretty easy to fix, and first batch users can live happy ever after :D.

I would not have been able to live with it HAD i found out like you. I would have definitely figured out a way to swap it with another one.
