Cheers for everyone who said about changing the ringtone then changing it back - worked at treat! Now if only I could find a way to disable the phone silencing when you flip it upside down - keeps silencing itself when someone rings and the phone's in my pocket.

While testing the pulseaudio packages, I also did some comparison with nice and audio quality setting.

- Pulseaudio package

After more A-B tests, the updated pulseaudio package didn't really do the trick for me. I feel the behavior of this package is finicky and less predictable. But it obvious works in certain scenarios and also for many people so maybe it's an isolated case for me.

- Audio quality

CPU % (playing mp3)
speex-fixed-2 (Default): 4-6
speex-fixed-5 : 8-10
speex-fixed-6 : 10-12
speex-fixed-10 : 18-20

So is the quality really better? I would say yes, the difference is definitely noticeable.
The higher the index, the smoother the music is. Overall, cranking up the index gives a "warmer" sound.
I didn't listen carefully to the difference among 4, 5 and 6. But I have the impression that 6 has significant better sound than 2 while the cpu load is acceptable. The value 4 doesn't produce enough improvement to justify the increased cpu load.
In the end, I use 5 just as a compromise.

- Nice setting

Nice setting is more effective to alleviate the stuttering in my case. But it seems to work better with the stock package. Still, there's no guarantee that stuttering will not occur. Need to experiment more, but I'm sticking with -15 for now.


* The pulseaudio daemon setting is configured through /etc/pulse/daemon.conf. Btw, don't bother trying speex-float and src-sinc-xxx, they don't work (no sound) at all.

Do NOT try to install NITDroid with this installed. It will disable sound in Maemo5 ;)

Uh, no, I have nitdroid installed, you might be choosing omap1 at boot up which flashes the stock kernel instead of kernel power.

Another point which proves overclocking mostly depends on humans' shitty psychology.

ive pinned this, how do i revert back? ringtones not working most of the time, cant have this... thanks

edit: tried changing tones to different then back, didnt work... im using tweakr and titans kernel........

Edit /etc/apt/preferences and remove all pulseaudio related lines, if you haven't pinned anything else just rm /etc/apt/preferences
apt-get upgrade to install the stock version.

okay maybe i needed to alter ringtones for both my tweakr profiles, as it seems to work now. thanks anyway, I might still revert later..... BIG THANKS, and GREAT WORK as ALWAYS!!

Hmm, for me that works only for some time and then the problem reappears.

I can trigger the issue by listening to the music player with headphones and then receive, e.g., an email which is alerted with a short beep as it should be. Now after stopping listening to music and unplugging the headphones then the notification sounds are again done using the default notification sounds.

So I wonder if this change in notification sounds back and forth (due to the music player being active or not) is now somewhat broken with the pulseaudio package. Instead of changing the notification sounds from the beeps back to the customized notification sounds, notification sounds seem to be changed back to the default notification sounds. Can anyone else reproduce this?
