Re: Kubuntu Mobile Tech Preview

the natty version is qemu: 0.13.0+noroms-0ubuntu10 which works

Re: Kubuntu Mobile Tech Preview

still got an error in natty when trying to chroot
i will start all over again now and see if this fixes the problems

Edit: Booting..... :D

Edit2: "....It takes a long time to boot...."

can you say how long ? i have it booting since 10 minutes
there was a booting animation but now all that is left is the blinking cursor in the top left corner

if you got the kernel booting then it should come up..did you get the log in prompt? ..I had that blinking cursor once and i just rebooted and that seemed to solve it..maybe try that and really cool that you are nearly there - you will be the first person to boot the kubuntu mobile natty on the n900 if it works :)

i did a reboot but i still just get the blinking cursor

what do you mean by "did you get the log in prompt"?

if i open the back cover i get a lot of error messages because the mmc gets unmounted but it says EXT4-fs error.

aren't we using ext3?

the adduser command in the essential-kubuntu-mobile.sh script adds a user into the chroot so when you boot the device the kernel on the vfat partition will boot the root filesystem on ext3. This will bring you to the kde logon prompt where you add the details you added in the script. If you are not getting there then maybe it is not working.

here is my syslog:
http://pastebin.com/25H9m5rb

i think the last line
"Jan 1 00:01:23 sycamore kdm: :0[3360]: Abnormal termination of greeter for display :0, code 0, signal 9"
might refer to the login prompt?!

Re: Kubuntu Mobile Tech Preview

that looks like kdm is crashing. can you try with the Maverick release here http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu-mo...el+omap.img.gz and see how you get on? I updated the essential-kubuntu-mobile.sh script on my server so make sure you run that OK

Re: Kubuntu Mobile Tech Preview

will try and report back

up and running :)

edit2: i only have the wallpaper and a mouse cursor so can't really do anything. A window popped up for 1 second but i could'nt see what it was

edit 3: Ok it works, needed some time to build up the desktop. now i can start playing around with it

final edit:

to quote ian: "It takes a long time to boot but the end result is worth it
not because it really works too well yet but because of what it might be one day."

looks really great but has some bugs and not the fastest performance :)
