Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

Well, as I had kernel power installed first, and never installed the beta usb host mode kernel, and since that kernel features landed in titans power kernel, this is what I did to install usb-hostmode gui.

Maybe it's obvious for most people, but for some it isn't.

First I installed the i2c-tools from the terminal using:
Code:

root
apt-get install i2c-tools

I then downloaded the latest hostmode gui package from here (currently 0.2-3).
Put that file on the N900 using usb.
Then to get it installed (without letting in the dependencies, host mode kernel, modules and flash) using x-terminal

Code:

root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
dpkg  --ignore-depends kernel-hostmode,kernel-hostmode-flasher,kernel-hostmode-modules -i hostmode-gui_0.2-3_armel.deb

That's it, it will install without errors. Guess we all should be highly aware that this usb host mode feature is still beta, even if it has landed inside titans kernel.

I'll post what mine says exactly for diagnosis:

There might be a few typos in there, but you get the gist of it.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

To get back to the nokia kernel, I had to boot into update-mode holding U and then run this command:

flasher-3.5 -F /Users/kieron/Downloads/RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R

obviously replacing the location where your update is

this will update only the kernel

By work, you mean did it restore the nokia kernel? then yes. :)

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

The difference between power43 and power44 is only in a different version of u-boot. If some whose system hangs with power44 can try with power43 (after flashing the stock kernel, as per Kieron instructions), run in xterm as root:

apt-get install kernel-power=2.6.28-maemo43 kernel-power-modules=2.6.28-maemo43 kernel-power-flasher=2.6.28-maemo43

And tell me if this version also hangs, it will help me in tracking the bug.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

@Matan: I managed to upgrade from 42 to 44 (did not end up like some of the guys in here).

Didn't succeed with meego though (yet), but maybe I did something wrong with that 1.1 codedrop image (did I need to put the kernel image in that separate vfat partition that was included in that image?).
Well anyway, Maemo boots up just fine.

Works fine. Hangs a little at starting kernel, for mere seconds, and then boots fine. Must be something to do with the new version of uboot then?

Hope I helped. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to PM.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

FWIW, I updated from .39 to .44 via FAPMAN today without any trouble. I get the UBoot screen for a brief second or two, and then the N900 boots as normal.

I did have to install the recompiled FCam drivers from Titan's post before any camera apps would work, however -- including the stock camera.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

well, after i updated enhanced linux kernel for power users through fapman i got kernel panic after reboot and i don't know what to do with this:

"Nevermind. Downloaded the new v42 deb, extracted the fiasco image, extracted the kernel, copied to N900, setup a new multiboot item. Reboot, looks like I'm up and running on v42 kernel"

little help plz? ty
