Addison, in your Google Voice account, check if 'Call Screening' is activated. You can either turn it off, or save all your 'trusted callers' in your GV contacts. Also try to activate "Forward your calls to Google Chat".

That sorted things out during my initial setup.

Hi .. its asking for GV number starting with 1 .. does that mean its only for people living in the USA ? pls advise .. and by GV number i understand you have to provide your own cell number with country and area codes ?

GV is only free for calls in the US and Canada and GV to GV accounts. Yes you need to provide a US phone number (mobile/landline) where GV will call during the initial setup and verify your account.

Hey Blink.

Here's a snippet of what I got in the mail today from Simon Telephonics.

Since October 29, GVGW has connected...

405 calls from users' SIP devices to Google Voice (outgoing calls)
1149 calls from Google Voice to SIP (incoming calls)
Asterisk 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8, Nokia handhelds, ATAs (analog telephone adapters), SIP IP phones, and soft phones to Google Voice
for 86 registered users

Can you explain what any of this gibberish means? :)

So I found this sip call with gv from you. So thanks. Mine works. Question however. What do you view as the most significant thing about this capability?

Free calls in the US to other numbers, though it's not as useful to me because I'm on an unlimited everything plan.

SIP devices to Google Voice means calls that people made from their phones to other numbers.

Calls from Google Voice to SIP means calls that people made coming in.

86 is the number of registered users.

So Arie - so with our set up calls to our gv # go thru the gvgw now? If not, how do we get/receive calls via gvgw?

I love the experience so far.

Thanks Arie.

When it said "405 calls" and "1149 calls", I read that completely all wrong.

I thought those were some type of special texting or call features I never heard of before.

Stupid brain. :)

From what I understand that calls go through the simoncs server. Yeah, we receive calls through their server.

^ Yeah, I caught that announcement last night as well.

Great news for those of us who feel we are too special to ever pay for anything. :)
