I installed the apk too. I am currently on a road trip in central europe. I downloaded all maps at home, but have been driving with mobile data on for live traffic data. So far working very well, even though the app is in beta. I am very happy!

Tested again, but same result.
1. Swype up and change presence of facebook to off
2. Disconnect and quit Mitakuuluu
3. close all openned windows (browser etc..)
4. close connection 3g and wifi
5. Open Here - i get immediately this popup window about connection.
6. Checked - use offline and changed traffic to off and closed Here.
7. Open Here again and again immediately get popup window and continue to get this window on every touch inside the app. Every one sec...
:(

Really dont understand why...

HERE maps beta is now officially available for non-Samsung phones.

Already installed on my Jolla and seems to work fine.

Works great on the Jolla, and seems to be very competitive feature wise with google maps.

I hope Nokia have a sailfish app in the works, but for now at least I can throw away google maps.

Ah small step for Nokia, a huge step for Android , erh, I mean Jolla.

-Seems to work despite the only 512MB Android RAM vs 1GB recommended.

-In the light of the pre-mortem halt of "maps for life" updates on Symbian^3 by MS cronies within Nokia, the usefulness of my Jolla just increased with an estimated 50%.

-the Jolla GPS seems to indicate higher precision compared to a random Note 2.

-Downloading maps does not work without creating a Here account first but offline search seems to be be well implemented.

-Storage options: "Memory" (and only memory) Some hack to store on SD Card would be nice as the maps seem to be huge.

-Compared to Symbian version, Vietnamese voices are now gone :(

-Different routing options are proposed! Plan A, B, C. Charming.

-This is rathered car centred navigation software so for walking or cycling I'd prefer native Sailfish Modrana or alternatives.

-depending on the country you are in, integration with local public transport maybe be available. (does not function in offline mode though)

For now I keep seeing the "compass needs adjustment" comment on Here maps.

Edit: and downloadable as APK from Nokia's server without questions asked.
Am I dreaming? :D As a customer I feel respected now and as a Jolla user I feel my existence has just been noticed.

It even works on Jolla after the opt-in upgrade to 1.1.0.38 Uitukka.
Although I had to reinstall the latest beta 1.75

Why Jolla don't talk to Nokia to do a native client?

Because Nokia wants money for it, surprised? :D

Presumably there's some marketshare at which running the service is profitable enough that they can take the hit on development themselves, hence the free Android version.

Or Samsung paid for the development and Nokia then released it for everyone else for free. :D
