"Q2 2008"

I'm still maintaining that the Modest betas will be our best metric for judging when we're getting "close".

aha.. Q2 2008, thats now.. and that sounds like a good metric. :)

A recent comment by timeless on my pet bug may indicate that MicroB has already been frozen in preparation for Diablo's release. "Close" may be at hand.

Cool, I didn't realize we were that close to hover-converted cars! Where did you sign up for the hover car waiting list?

Refresh your catalog list.

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

17 doesn't seem to be working for me either. I fear these modest threads won't be very pretty the next few days :P

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

I just installed 17 and agreed I still have the bug and no gmail access :( Oh well hopefully there will be a solid fix next release.

Ditto. I've even powered off and on without external power in case that might help. Hrm.

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

still get an ssl error for gmail , and the one email addy i had it working halfway decent with , it throws an ssl error for it at me now too... this is rigoddamndiculous

GeneralAntilles 2008-04-21 16:32

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

Very odd. It works 100% on both my normal install (hasn't been clean since W10) and a fresh install of OS2008.

munky261 2008-04-21 16:35

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

it seems to me to some extent that everyones problem seems to be a little different , gmail will work for some and not others... luckily the main addy that i use now (lavabit.com) gives me the option to turn off SSL. seems to me that its the settings of each particular user that is partially the root of all the problems

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

Just saw this thread, and tried it.

Updated Modest to the newest version (via Application manager).
Fired up Modest - and it WORKS - with my GMAIL account.

It is fetching and sending emails as before.
Haven't yet tested the new email notification as yet.

Thanks for the update to the Modest team.

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

Could those that claim it works please confirm that they are using SSL port 993? Earlier in the thread people had disabled SSL to get it working.

bootdoc 2008-04-21 17:15

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

it works for me using port 995 and 465.

deeteroderdas 2008-04-21 17:15

Just upgraded to -17 here...it works again.

As for verifying port 993 with gmail, I thought SSL IMAP was the only way to access...

Yes, I am using SSL with both Gmail and .mac IMAP with zero problems with W17 with both an existing upgraded version and a fresh install on a clean OS2008.

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

On my setup - which is the same as it was when it originally worked on Modest (pre 16 version) and works on now Modest (17 version), it as as below

Gmail (POP)
Outgoing : 465 (with SSL)
Incoming : 995 (with SSL)

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

I have tried deleting and re-adding the account without change. "Server name or port number may be incorrect".

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3084 will not let me re-open this bug

brontide 2008-04-21 17:32

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

FOUND THE BUG!

Those people still having trouble re-up with Application manager. They placed an update to modest this morning listed as 17-1. I confirmed with dpkg that I was running 17-1 and then ran Application manager again and it found another update for Modest version 17-1. Installed that version and only now does it work.

So there are 2 versions of 17-1 floating around. Only the most recent one works.

I'm now seeing a 17-2. Downloading now...

EDIT: I'm thinking this one fixes the bug. It hasn't finished installing yet, but the "new mail" chime has sounded a few dozen times.

GeneralAntilles 2008-04-21 17:51

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

Updated to 17-2, also seems to work fine.

If I can get more confirmation, I'd like to close the bug again. :D

17-2 works for me, 17-1 did not.

17.2 seems to now be working, thanks!

brontide 2008-04-21 18:19

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

17-2 installed.

Server or port error: Fixed, can open and read my gmail again

Cert error/warning: Not fixed

Mark mail read: Not working sometimes, can't figure out the reason

Mark mail deleted: Seems to work

Background checking: Not working

mobiledivide 2008-04-21 18:22

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

Awesome it now works for me after updating, I was wondering about the update that I installed this morning because it was <500kb. Anyway I had forgotten how much I love having modest as my email client for Gmail over using the web browser over the last week.

twinsfan 2008-04-21 18:31

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

I was having the same problem with gmail and another IMAP account I use, but upgrading to 17-2 (from 16-1, I think) fixed the problem. Thanks!

chrisak 2008-04-21 18:32

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

I see now what brontide mentions... the unknown certificate prompt pops up at launch (3 popups for 3 imap accts).

I had this problem for a while a month or two ago... at that time I fixed by deleting all accts, .modest directories, .camel_certs, and fresh reinstall. Will have to try that again.

........

edit - hmmm, the unknown certificate prompt problem, while persistent <sp> the first 1/2 of day seems to have gone away on it's own. My daemon does have a mind of its own :)

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

four accounts and it only checks the active one when I select send/receive all. switch to that account and then it works... only for that account.

os 2008 51-3, clean install (last night) and modest 17-2 clean install. anybody else with multiple accounts confirm?

qole 2008-04-22 19:32

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

17-2 seems better in terms of internal errors, still not marking messages "read" properly on my GMail IMAP account. Glad I missed W16.

macr0t0r 2008-04-22 19:39

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

Not sure whether to file this as a bug or feature request at modest.org:

The "Download Content" menu item should be ENABLED when selecting multiple messages even if one of the messages are already downloaded. Right now, if ANY message in the selection is downloaded, then "Download Content" gets disabled. I then have the frustratingly pointless exercise of downloading one message at a time in order to read mail on the bus.

I should be able to "select all" followed by "download content" so I can do some offline reading of my inbox. Claws mail is champion for offline use, but Modest will be good enough if I can at least get the Inbox with a couple clicks.

So...bug or feature request?

- Jim

Bug, I'd say.

Re: Modest Beta for OS2008 Now Out

A couple of Modest user questions (or rather questions about Modest from a user, or maybe a user asking questions Modest-ly, ... :)).

Is there any way to set a default SMTP server that would be applied to all the connections? Or possibly a way to copy the settings from one SMTP Account to another?
Is there any Modest manual or FAQ posted anywhere? (google search didn't come up with much).

TX
