OK, that should do it.

-Reinstalled rotate-sb-plugin (but not mod): no fix (didn't expect to, though), and plugin doesn't show an icon in the status bar, though it leaves room for it (like a blank icon)

Also, when I boot, the blue progress bar at the bottom of the screen only goes ~5mm, then stops, but boot time doesn't seem to be affected. I'm assuming it's a kernel issue. I don't currently have the micro-usb cable with me, so if reflashing the original involves that then I'll have to try tomorrow.

Same problem. I follow all steps, i can see the rotate plugin installed but didn't show up in status bar. I tried to do all steps from begining but for each plugin i try to install, it tells me that it is not compatible or something like that.
On thing i've done, is that the application manager found an update versions for thre of the .deb and i select update. Perhaps this is the problem, even if the updated deb have the same version and name.
Thanks for any help.\

Edit: SOLVED.
I've made restore application before installing the packages and the old rotate plugin was there with its own catalogue. Starting from a clean Diablo without restoring application solved my problem. Thanks again for Qwerty.

Edit 2: Stop working :(.
Everything was working and i add the rotate-plugin including Dpad. The Dpad didn't work. It is installed but nothing new when i click on it. After an hour, application manager show Update for xomap (i think). I did it and it's done. Both rotate-plugin are out. None of them show on the status bar.

Pidgin and MicroB when you change your agent type to iPhone and use mobile Digg, mobile Facebook, etc.

That is a timely response. I can hear to post that I was also able to get it installed correctly (non-Diablo), but hadn't really needed it yet.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

N800 running Diablo with qwerty12's rotate kernel and rotate-sb-plugin...

Everything worked great up until my wife turned off the N800.

PROBLEM: On reboot the Rotate status bar plugin does not show. Control panel says that it is installed...

I have un-installed / reinstalled (plugin) to no avail.

Only thing that changed was the reboot. Would this have done something to the kernel?

Thanks

PS when I grow up I want to be just like qwerty12:)

Fesato:

Would somebody mind packaging an updated Xserver Xomap?
xserver-xomap_1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20074202_armel.modfied.deb is old and it continually asks me to update it in Application Manager/Apt-get.

Combatdoc: THANK YOU! I thought I was going insane....Ok maybe not because of this...:)

I posted earlier that after reboot I was unable to rotate my screen, where I had been able to earlier. Since I have been "just updating" everything, I'm betting that I keep replacing the Xserver xomap...

I followed the install procedure and double checked that the rotation worked...YES...

Now after today's round of updates...No rotation...

I second the plea for an updated file. PLEASE:D

Thanks in advance...

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

I got an answer to this that might help you too.

Don't leave the tablet in red pill mode unless you need it for something. The Xserver file is only picked up in red pill, so it won't get updated in blue pill mode.

Oh, and updating the xserver version is on the blocks as well.

 DOH!

I completely forgot about it being in "red pill mode"

Anyone know how to tell which mode it is in without going through the app manager?

Maybe a status bar plugin?

Description: OMAP X server
The Xomap server provides a driver for the Maemo hardware platform,
using the OMAP framebuffer drivers and a touchscreen.
It will always ask you to update a package if it was installed locally and can be found in a repository. Look into apt-get pinning.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

True, but the issue is that the one installed is a different version than the one in repository.

rm_you 2008-07-15 16:08

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

As a note, you can also now use Advanced Backlight instead of the rotate-sb-plugin to handle rotation, which is yet another less statusbar icon. :)

See here:
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/O...ced-backlight/
or here:
http://adv-backlight.garage.maemo.org
or just do:
apt-get install advanced-backlight

I hope you guys find it useful!

No, as the version strings is same. I can't do anything about the way packages are handled in maemo :). If someone thinks they can do better, then by all means, grab the xrandr patch and post your package. And then we will see if application manager wants to update the package. (using higher version number doesn't count as you will mess up osso-software-version UNLESS you get the user to install -unlocked.)

rm_you 2008-07-15 16:19

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Yeah, I would say that anyone who is willing to install something like rotation support and do a kernel flash may as well be forced into using -unlocked software-version package...

jhodge 2008-07-15 19:25

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Rotation is working great for me with one exception: mplayer. I added a line to my /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf ( vf=rotate=1 )to rotate the video 90 degrees, so that I can use my tablet rotated to portrait mode for Canola, FBreader, etc. and still watch video in landscape. That works, except that the video will no longer scale up to full-screen. No amount of playing with mplayer options ( zoom, fs, vf=scale, dsize=, x=, y= ) seems to work.

All of my videos are xvid/mp3 at 400*240.

I suspect that xrandr is not setting the screed dimensions properly when it is rotated, but I'm not sure how to tell for sure. I'm handling rotation with either advance-statusbar-backlight or sb-rotate-plugin, and I get the same results with both.

Any suggestions?

I do believe I have solved the -unlocked hardware dependency problem. I will make another post on ITT about it, but you can talk to me on IRC.

I also very nearly have a "rotation-support" package whipped up that should automate the entire process, including switching to osso-software-version-rx*4-unlocked. :)

That would be great for us newbies too scared to install the rotation installation for fear of making the whole operating system go pear shape. Automating the installation would take a load off. Thanks for all the effort!

You really shouldn't worry. Follow the directions in the wiki (linked to in this thread) and you'll be set. Seriously. Qwerty12 is a busy guy, and while he works on bigger and better things, you should get your hands dirty and implement rotation. You'll be glad you did.

I know, I'll admit it, I'm a great big wimp. I've just got horrible luck with electronics that always seem to do weird things to me intentionally and now that I've got the N810 perfectly setup in diablo, I'd probably brick it if I did the rotation instructions; then probably have to start from scratch with the diablo firmware, and my backup will probably turn out to be corrupt, and at that point I'll more than likely be looking around for the nearest open window to jump out of and all because I felt really cocky and adventurous, but what I should have done was remember all those past disastrous hasty endeavors with electronics which are haunting me to this day all because I had too much time on my hands and thought what the hell, I'll give it a go and tinker around with it. So, frankly I'm putting myself in the boring but safe category with the N810 and we hope to have a long life together without too many incidents.

I'm exaggerating, but you get the point. :D. At least I hope you do.

rm_you 2008-07-16 04:56

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Well, the way you learn is by trying all kinds of things, and often you learn the most from making mistakes. I recommend not holding back, it is hard to actually brick this thing, and every mistake you make is hopefully one less you'll ever make again! The worst that can happen is you'll have to reflash...

lm2 2008-07-16 12:59

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

You won't brick your device and you won't have to reflash. The wiki is flawless. Follow it step by step, and you'll be fine. I'm telling you, you want rotation and portrait mode. Make it happen. :)

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

I just tried it last night. Excellent wiki. While I probably won't use it all that much, reading my RSS feeds in fullscreen portrait with the feed selector pane off is great. Also, I'm left handed, so for games (Doom?) that require both d-pad and stylus control, I think flipping it upside down will be ideal.

Thanks!

I installed screen rotation before Diablo and it worked great. I had just been waiting to receive my new 4gb cards so as to clone the OS before reinstalling screen rotation. One question before I proceed. Will I later be able to take advantage of the high speed enabled kernel written about elswhere here, or will I have to hope for someone (more knowledgable than myself), to compile a combined kernel?

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Are there any others with reboot loops after installing screen rotate? I have been experiencing reboot loops on my n800 three times for the last month or so, forcing me to reflash. first with Chinook and then Diablo, and it seems to have started around the time I installed screen rotation. I have followed the how-tos for chinook and diablo on the wiki.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

I followed all the steps in the wiki, until I tried to install the unzipped files. Except for the plugin, I get the error message "incompatible application package". I am running Diablo.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

try this: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...418#post205418

sliderotate 0.0.21.diablo installs all necessary bits to enable rotation in Diablo.
Only becomeroot has to be installed separately if your device is not in r&d mode like mine.

Is it a known issue that the lock window shows the active applications underneath? The window is modal, so no interaction is possible... but still it shows quite a lot of detail.

How is it possible to make the applications menu smaller?
