Its fine. Its all new as of last night so I could better track people's requests because the thread was starting to overload me in tracking what all the requests were, how valid they still were, further comments on them, etc.

instead of the up arrow i hit the down arrow, accidentally set it to 0. Then all hell broke loose.

On the bottom of the screen, I have an error thats "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: the name com.noki..." And i can't get it to display the rest.

The alarm is permenently set to off, with zero is the number.
Any help?

Edit: and by alarm i mean notification

Edit: Ran it in terminal. complete error is "name com.nokia.alarmd was not provided by any .service files."

I have the same problem. I read this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=171 about editing alarm_queue.xml and I have some questions.

I'm a command line noob. I have root, and I can see alarm_queue.xml in Xterm, but I have not clue how to open and edit it.

How do I open and edit alarm_queue.xml? Is the command line the best way to do it? Is there another program I need to have installed before that will work?

Can I just delete alarm_queue.xml and reinstall DialCentral? Will I break other things if I do that?

Please help. Thanks.

I use nano for editing. #apt-get install nano
# nano alarm_queue.xml
erase what you need
ctrl-o to save
ctrl-x to exit
reboot
voila, dialcentral working :D

This is highly worrisome. I just checked the code and both the widget and the setting of the alarm should not allow 0 as a value. Could you file a bug on this and I'll take a look at this?

Was filing the report, but I couldn't repeat the event. I tried to get it to go to zero again, and it didn't work. I didn't update or anything, so I have no idea what happened. still gonna file the report.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Just upgraded from 1.03 to 1.04-5 and now I'm greeted with:
Code:

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name dom.nokia...
That's along the bottom. What's going on?

I cannot set anything from within the app - notifications et al is greyed out. I have python2.5-dbus installed. And yet I'm getting errors.

Nevermind. Apparently my alarmd was not even running. I had to go into the services and noticed it was not even running... oops.

At night I turn off wifi(offline mode) to save battery life (I turn off wifi so when a new email comes the LED doesn't stay flashing all night and use up battery). But lately it seems to do the opposite. When I turn it on in the morning the battery has gone down more than during the day. I don't know if it is just my imagination, but it seems to be consistent. I'll try turning off notifications at night and see if it makes a difference. Anybody else experience this or is it just me?

OK first off Ill admit Im brand new to this. I do have a google voice acct set up. I installed 1.03, then upgraded to 1.04 (whichever one was avail a few days ago). I can start dialcentral just fine, login, and it does display my inbox/voice messages.

However when I enter a number, it simply does nothing. The dial button acts as if pressed, but nothing ever happens. Thought I saw mention of this earlier in the thread, but didnt notice any resolution.

Also I have NO OTHER account or dialer/voip type app configured on the 810, gizmo, skype etc. That whole bit confused me.

Am I missing something? Can I not just have google voice, login with dial central & make a call out?

When you tell GoogleVoice to make a call what it does is connect an existing phone on your side to the number you are trying to reach. So first it calls your phones (the callback number) and then dials the other. Have you checked the "Accounts" tab to make sure a callback number is set?

Also on the first post of this thread is a general set of steps to walk through in figuring out what is wrong.

Good luck. let us know how it works out.

You will also need a sipp account to make and take calls on the tablet from google voice. gizmo/fring/skype doesn't have to be running if you setup the sipp account in the default internet tablet's internet call program.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I've started hacking on a home applet to provide access to a quickdial list, or messages, etc.

Given that I'd like to reuse as much Dialcentral code as possible, it's being written in python using the hildon-desktop-python-loader and python-hildondesktop bindings.

I've looked at the homememfree applet source code, which is also written in python.

But when I try to write a simple applet that displays just a label with static text, it doesn't work. It shows up in the list of available applets just fine, but when I select it, it does nothing, and going back to the list of applets shows it deselected.

If I convert the exact code I have to instead inherit from hildon.Window instead of hildondesktop.HomeItem, it runs fine as a regular program.

Anybody have any hints for debugging this kind of thing?

/usr/lib/hildon-desktop/quickdial.py
Code:

import gtk
import hildondesktop
#import hildon

class QuickDial(hildondesktop.HomeItem):
#class QuickDial(hildon.Window):
    def __init__(self):
        hildondesktop.HomeItem.__init__(self)
        #hildon.Window.__init__(self)

        self.label = gtk.Label()
        self.label.set_text("Hello World!")

        self.add(self.label)

        self.connect("destroy", gtk.main_quit)
        self.show_all()

def hd_plugin_get_objects():
    plugin = QuickDial()
    return [plugin]

if __name__ == "__main__":
    objects = hd_plugin_get_objects()
    gtk.main()

/usr/share/applications/hildon-home/quickdial.desktop
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=QuickDial
Type=python
X-Path=quickdial.py

Have you verified all the dependencies are installed?

My first guess would be is that it gets some kind of exception thrown on import/load and automatically disables it. A way to debug this is to append to a file debug messages throughout the module scope and in the __init__ function.

Has everyone been forced to switch over to GoogleVoice? If anyone is still on GrandCentral, does it even work? Of those who still have working GrandCentral, would you be interested in maintaining that Grand Central backend to DialCentral?

Untested code might as well be considered broken code. Since I can't test Grand Central support I'm tempted to remove it unless someone wants to come forward and maintain it or at the very least keep me informed of whether it still works or not.

I've been turning of the notifications at night along with wifi and it really saves on battery life. I guess even with wifi off DC's notifier still is trying to check for messages? Good thing that it is so easy to just uncheck it. Thank you Epage for integrating the two and making notifier able to be turned on and off.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Thanks icolbolsh, I am going to do that! I've been having some battery life issues as well, and thanks to my very heavy SMS conversations on my phone, my n810 is always flashing blue now.

Epage is there any way you could make it flash orange instead? I saw the couple threads on manually changing an LED color but I was wondering if you had any easier way to do it inside your program. This is really not a big deal to me, just a novelty really.

One more thing:
Whenever I open up DC and try to dial in a number then hit dial, it won't call me. Contacts works just fine though. Also keep in mind epage my NIT was having issues with the whole broken version issue.

Just to start with the basics: do you have your gizmo account set up in your built in client? Or whatever means....fring, gizmo app...etc.

And do you have your "call back number" selected on DC? On the account tab the call back number should be your tablets number.
Those are the two obvious starting issues. If they are not problem then let us know here. Maybe some can help you further

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Just a few newbie questions:

I'm currently using DialCentral 1.0.3

So first, the only way to make or receive a phone call is to have Gizmo active and running on my home computer, is this correct?

When I answer a call I can't hear anything until I slide the volume button a little even if it was already set to maximum. Am I missing an option so this doesn't occur?

I followed gogol's suggestion and went to this site https://www.google.com/voice/m/calle...r=+13606430304.

I unchecked my home phone number as a forwarding number so my only forwarding number is my Gizmo account. Is this also correct?

I'm asking because initially, Google Voice wouldn't allow me to remove my home phone number stating that at least one forwarding number needed to be a land line. How I was able to eventually remove it was by that link given above by gogol.

Lastly, if I open up DialCentral and call my home phone at (517) 272-xxxx, the only thing that happens is that I'm calling my Tablet on my Tablet. My house phone doesn't ring.

I guess I'm not understanding the whole concept behind internet calling.

Isn't there a way to make my Google Voice number exclusive like a cell phone and not paired up to my home phone number?

In DialCentral I think I have the correct account settings and they are:
Grand Central number - using number given to me by Google Voice
Callback Number- using number given to me by Gizmo

In the Google Voice webpage I'm using for my Default Forwarding Settings:
Home phone number - unchecked
Gizmo number - checked.

I thought I have everything correctly set up so what am I not understanding here?

Thanks.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

set up your gizmo project on the built in sip application on your Nokia. Use the search feature on this site, there are plenty of walk troughs to get you going.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

@Addison
first I would upgrade to the latest DC 1.0.4-5, I think it is the best one yet with built in notifier. Second, please read this blog for detailed instructions.
http://www.fromthefencepost.com/2009...ice-and-gizmo/
Hint: You want to change your account from Grand Central to Google voice in the drop down arrow on the right above where you put in your account name. Also you don't need anything on your home computer is you set it up right. So check out the link above it really covers everything.

Well, you have to have some reachable end point, like Gizmo being open. Like is already mentioned, if you have RTComm, its much better to use the SIP client which is compatible with Gizmo. One less program to run.

I believe I have heard of this issue before and its a known issue with Gizmo.

Once you answer the call on your tablet, does it then ring your home phone?

In theory, according to those posts you linked. I still have it linked to my cell phone, a skype-in account, and a sipgate account.

Calling it "Grand Central Number" through me off at first but then I remember this is a bug I fixed in 1.0.5. On the accounts tab, the account's phone number is referred to incorrectly as a "Grand Central Number". This is fixed in SVN along with a lot of other UI tweaks I'm making.

Whoops, I got this issue fixed. It was actually a Google Voice error (sort of). I called an 11 digit number (a 1-866 number). Now the issue I'm having is w/the built in sip client, the dialing pad almost lags, so this makes using their menu (for entering long numbers) quite a bear. Any suggestions?

I don't use the clients dialpad for making calls. Only DC's. I only the clients dial pad is for accepting calls. If you didn't already know, after you are in a call, you need to use the DTMF dial pad. For instance, you receive a call, then there are extra options that require a dial pad...in the client(not DC)go to top left hand menu, select "Internet Call" then "DTMF dialing".
Of course you probably know that.

fatboyxpc 2009-08-29 17:27

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Right, I can do that, but if I want to put in a long number (say a credit card number) it just breaks down. Just when I hit 1 for the first menu, it lags hard, the 16 digit cc number just wouldn't work lol

Dialcentral just configures notifications. Maemo's alarmd service does the rest from there. Your questioning this implies things might not be working? DId an event occur that should have caused a notification? Remember, you can have it notify for missed calls, voicemail messages, or SMS messages. Unfortunately to do much debugging beyond this will require some command line work. Do you feel comfortable with that?

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

extras-devel now has Dialcentral 1.0.5-0

I've tried to focus a lot on UI cleanups. If any of the adventurous could help in checking for bugs and let me know what they think of the changes, it would be much appreciated.

UI Tweaks
  • Contacts Tab now remember what was the last addressbook you viewed
  • More thumb scrollbars are present
  • Bigger items on Recent/Contacts/Messages tabs
  • Word wrap on Messages
  • Bigger message dialogs
  • Message dialogs autoscroll the conversation to the bottom
  • Notification time is now more thumb editable
  • Dialpad is usable sooner
  • I don't remember what else

Bug Fixes
  • Dialpad: previous number when sending an SMS is now cleared
  • Dialpad: SMS button is now grayed out when not logged in
  • I don't remember what else

Also, GrandCentral support is completely removed. I can't really test it because my account is converted and I didn't receive complaints when I had previously asked about removing it.

For advanced use: I also provided an example alternative notifier. "/usr/lib/dialcentral/example_custom_notifier.py"

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I like the changes but the font is a tad to big. I'd shrink it a little for messages (not contacts). I'd suggest maybe adding a way to save messages/SMS too from DC? For example, if say a friend texted you directions or a number and you wanted to see it later. Or have a way to save all temp. But i guess quickclip can do that too

If you don't want to do that then i guess make texts copy and pastable. or highlightable.

That is correct, the only role Dialcentral plays in notifications is for configuring them

A previous post of mine has the different command line apps you can run

I'd suggest first printing the alarm info to confirm its configured. Another way of doing this is looking at "/var/lib/alarmd/alarmd_queue.xml".

Check "~/.dialcentral" to see if there are ".json" files in that directory. Those contain the information used to determine if the user should be notified. Are there both ".json" and ".old.json" files?

Try running the notifier manually. See if it gives any errors or if it seems to update the ".json" files.

I think this is a reasonable idea. If you could please add it to the feature requests I'd appreciate it. It makes it easier for me to track conversations related to a specific feature and it allows you to better track my progress and give feedback on what I'm doing

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I agree, the recent tab is a little much. You have minutes and hours showing again. You had it shortened to M,H and D...fit much better. I had it tweaked before so that just the name of the person was the larger font (1.5) not the time, miss/received text. I found it to fit nearly all my contacts that way.

I do love the new messages interface fits nicely.

I do think that having the contacts a little larger would be beneficial ( at least in my eyes/thumbs)

epage thanks for the help. I ran the commands, checked alarm_queue, checked the json files. Everything checked out good. Looked like it should be working.

Thanks for all the hard work on this.

I had to go back to 1.0.4-5... which is working for me.

Are you using GrandCentral, if so 1.0.5 does not have support for it, 1.0.5 only supports Google Voice.

Epage I updated and now it doesn't work. When I start the program it tries to login and then has an issue.
