7900GT? or lower?

Don't have any specs to confirm, but don't think it even manages to do a GF4 Ti4200 power... Probably even less...

wud love a tower defense type of game or something like plants vs zombies. those games are so simple yet addictive. i think timewasters are a great idea.

In terms of raw power it's comparable to the original GeForce or the GeForce 2 mx.

So, theoretically, it could run games like Doom3 or HL2 properly with lowest settings if they were ported and optimized specially for the N900?

No, Doom 3 and HL2 would be impossible because the CPU can't handle that and there is no source available. I would say the source engine games might be possible on an overclocked N900 running everything at the lowest settings, but even then you need the source code and the only source available is the stolen pre-release code. I don't think anyone is going to touch that.

There are a couple of open source engines being worked on for Morrowind, but the chances of those being usable anytime this year are pretty slim.

I like the ported strategy games, but how do you play 3d shooters, with no mouse and the N900 keyboard?

It was, it's not open. A project is underway, but stalled mid-development. Google "stargus"

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

@ndi, how would you play Homeworld though, surely you need the right mouse too?

As for FPS games, they can be a bit hard... I got quake2 on my n900 and it's just impossable to play, I can see that people may like to carry a keyboard and mouse but surely u might aswell just get a laptop or just play it at home? It's hardly something u wana show ur friends...

Some FPS games work well though, I have been paying zero tolerence on picodrive, and prdoom aswell, becasue the old fps games didn't require the player to look up or down these play rather well ;) rise of the Triad would probably be the close to the last FPS games where a mouse was not required.

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

Many games allow for a left click interface like Command and Conquer and Dune. Right click for the few could be hold stylus. Or drag or somesuck trick, if not widely used.

Ctrl + Click?
Fn + Click?
Shift + Click?

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

FPS games aren't hard to control at all when you use the accelerometer to aim. You could use the keyboard for moving and for actions... This was done in the S60 ports of the Quake trilogy. Seems it's hard to get the same games ported to Maemo with full graphics, mod supports, etc. Is someone interested in porting these games?

Alternatively you could use a DualShock 3 or Sixaxis controller.

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

It still must be really hard though... I can't see playing homeworld on my n900 being a pleasurable experience. Still though, I would love to see a few strategy games, Cnc sounds like something I could play on the n900, as im sure the screen could be scrolled using the keys or did I dream that up?

I just want Rise of the Triad, pleeeeeeeeeease! :(

Doesn't aiming with accelerometers make you look like a tin-foil-hat rocker-impared person having a seizure?

It can't be more pleasurable than a large screen and mouse/keyboard. It's a port, so by definition out of its element. Still, in a bind, it's good.

For example, I play OpenTTD for hours when trapped, even though it's a game that welcomes huge screens and mice. Still, with a stylus, it's better than a nail in the foot and it does draw you in for the 3 hours you are trapped in a hair saloon in another town with only one car.

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

maybe it's just me, or perhaps a little too late in the day but the sentance "welcomes huge screens and mice" just sounds... well... like a drive-in for rodents. ;)

accelerometer sounds awefull for games like quake etc, I've seen the quake three demo and the it seems there's a reason it was only the first level showed, there's no way it can beet the mouse and kb combo. plus as Ndi points out, you'd look like a right burk shacking ur arm on the bus!

a) That was really funny.

b) You don't shake your arm, because that rotates the screen. To keep your sense of orientation, you need to keep you head aligned. NOW you look like someone who drank an unlabeled bottle.

YES. There is many ways to implement it and in that video itīs implemented in good way. Some keys to success

- Accelcontrol only turning (towards, backwards from keys)
- Give user access to sensitivity
- Also put some inertia to turning so that it doesn't react to too little turns but still reacts so that you do not have to tilt whole screen sideways

So....Do we have ANY game right now on N900 that can be installed pretty easily and has optimized accel.controlling taking account of list.
