Re: Quake 3 on N900

HI Guys,
Am I going somethingwrng. I don't have permission to move the files using xterm?
Also the directory that the install was made to was ../users/baseq3/ and not /user/.q3a/baseq3/

Does this make a diffrerence?

Just to make sure, are all the default repositories still there and enabled? if you have disabled any it will not work

It does make a difference, I personally ended up using GPE File Manager to copy the files from the directory i originally put it in to the correct .q3a one
p.s. you have to copy the files then delete the original as move does not work from one file system to another

First of all kudos to the developers.

My problem that the movement with gyroscopes is quite difficult. I'd prefer to aim with the the gyroscopes (analog control like mouse) and move forward/backward step left/right with keyboard.

The keyboard configuration works OK for me, although navigating though menus is quite confusing sometimes.

I'm still getting access denied when I use the gpe file manager,.

Also are you saying I need to create the directory /.q3a/ ?

Thanks

you may need to manually type the location in the top address bar as:

/home/user/.q3a/baseq3/

see if that exists first as it may be hidden

then copy the files into that location

Re: Quake 3 on N900

How do I unhide the folders, or get permissions to copy files for that matter.

I still get the permission denied when copying files using GPE or using xterm?

Is it possible to use the multiplayer for this?

I tried to enter one of the games but it crashed the whole app.
Has anyone managed to get this working?

Re: Quake 3 on N900

works in LAN with a server running on your PC...

stobbsc 2009-12-30 10:11

Re: Quake 3 on N900

so do I have to have a my own server running?
can't I just join an existing server?

J0ph33 2009-12-31 14:02

Re: Quake 3 on N900

theoretically its possible to join servers on the net...but there might be problems regarding the modifications most other servers run with

furthermore u wouldnt have a chance...auto-aim is disabled in multiplayer (not sure if its disabled all the time or just when a PC runs the server)

Re: Quake 3 on N900

Ok, so there really is a problem with ioquake3 right now.

the libgles1-sgx-img package depends for some reason on an old version of opengles-sgx-img-common ( = instead of >= ) and so it won't install. And since it won't install, ioquake3 won't install.

Read this, so you'll get an idea what kind of filesystem N900 has.
http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_filesystem

Re: Quake 3 on N900

it is in the right place then . just get black screen . xterminal doesnt show the pak files it just shows changelog.txt

kake 2010-01-04 14:38

Re: Quake 3 on N900

Those .pak files should be in "home/user/baseq3/".

Try to start all over again. Delete ioquake3 from app manager and delete your baseq3 folder.

then first copy the .pak files in that right directory and after that install ioquake3 from extras-dev.

hope this helps.

Re: Quake 3 on N900

after you connect your n900 to the computer and click the n900 drive. thats the folder baseq3 is suppose to be in right? its in there. i did what you said . still just black screen with spinning thing at top .

Open Terminal and type!

mv /home/user/MyDocs/baseq3/* /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/

That will move all the files from the directory inside MyDocs into your quake 3 arena folder.

Re: Quake 3 on N900

nope didnt work . same thing . got Source ... Directory Source .. etc . w/e message about a binary after i entered it in xterminal

popwar 2010-01-05 05:38

Re: Quake 3 on N900

although it shows .pk0 and .pk3 now via xterminal

CarstenDutch 2010-01-05 05:44

Re: Quake 3 on N900

I updated Quake 3 arena with q3pointrelease132 so i have more pk3 files, it did work for me.

Uwe 2010-01-07 19:37

Re: Quake 3 on N900

When I tried it out, ioquake3 installed /home/user//baseq3 ant NOT /home/user/MyDocs/baseq3.

First, I moved everying (including the pk3 files) to /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/, but Quake 3 would not start. When I moved the files back to /home/user//baseq3 Quake 3 started up and everything worked fine.

popwar 2010-01-10 01:42

Re: Quake 3 on N900

using gpe file manager to try to move the files it says access denied

popwar 2010-01-10 04:23

Re: Quake 3 on N900

i finally got it to work! . didnt have to use gpe at all . i kept using my computer to move the files . instead of putting the .pak files in the baseq3 folder i put them in the root folder . then i used n900's file manager to move the files into the baseq3 folder and it works now . :) . was playing via local server with my friend hosting on his iphone 3gs . now if only there was a way to up the gfx settings without crashing :)

NOTE: I have just put this together in one place and do not take credit for the work of the users that have already mentioned the following but in separate places including: qgil, omcfadde, jcwilk

BEFORE YOU START READ THE FOLLOWING WARNING:

If you are confident you want to continue then....
  • On your N900 open the web browser and goto http://repository.maemo.org/
  • Click on install next to "Fremantle Extras-Deval" which is half way down the page (WARNING - Do not install unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing and have fully read and understood the above information from qgil)
  • Give it a few seconds and it should load up the application manager, click on add and it should update the catalogue automatically
  • Goto the games sub-menu and find ioquake3 and install it
    - If you get an error installing and it asks for "Libgles1-sgx-img", it is because you have disabled some of the other repositories, make sure you keep the default ones enabled all the time!!
  • Connect your N900 to the PC in mass storage mode and make a folder called "baseq3" in the root directory and then copy the *.pk3 files from your Quake 3 CD into it.
  • In X-Terminal type the following (this should show a list of files about 4 files/folders):
    Code:

    ls /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/
  • In x-Terminal type the following to move the files to the hidden folder:
    Code:

    mv /home/user/MyDocs/baseq3/* /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/
  • In X-Terminal type the following (this should now show the *.pk3 files):
    Code:

    ls /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/

Everything should now work fine, so just load up Quake 3 and it should work straight away.
(When it asks for the CD Key just press the enter key twice)

NOTE: The game is still very buggy so don't expect it to work as you want it to.

Some useful keys:
Fn (Blue Arrow) + Ctrl/Sym = Open/Close console.
Fn + , (Next to backspace) = Esc (aka Menu)
Space = Jump
Ctrl/Sym = Fire
T = Talk (press enter to come out of this)
Fn + 1 = Weapon 1 (2,3,4,5, etc will change to weapon 2,3,4,5,etc)
A = Side step left
D = Side spep right
Up (On direction keys on the right) = move forward (same as tilting phone forward)
Down (on direction keys on the right) = move backwards (same as tilting phone backwards)

You can customise the above commands to how you want in the options i.e. change side step to the direction keys!

Hope this helps and if I have missed anything just let me know!

Hiya, Id like some help please!

So I installed ioquake and I have the Quake 3 icon on my menu.

I created a folder called baseq3 on the N900. Its in the root, so just as you plug in the N900 into the PC, and you see all the .folder folders. I created the a folder called baseq3 in that area. I copied the 2 pk3 files into that folder

When I run the command

Code:

ls /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/
It doesnt show all the files from ioquake? Infact all it shows is an crash log from Quake 3 when I tried to run it.

I then run the mv command, and it fails.

Any ideas on what i am doing wrong?
