Long version: I'm a big guy and want to carry my N900 in my front pocket just like I do for my N810. A simple sleeve or pouch would work best for me to prevent scratches to the screen, but not add extra bulk to the already chubby N900.

I'm a huge fan of Waterfield Design, a San Francisco company who makes all of their products in house. A photo I took that shows their quality workmanship can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/speednutdave/3073066779/ (select "all sizes" to view high-res photo)

I've given them the Nokia spec page with the N900 dimensions (http://www.nokiausa.com/find-product...specifications) and they informed me that they can have the case ready for production in a week or so. If you want to order one now, just pick the droid version, then in the special instructions section, state that "custom size is needed for Nokia N900 -
4.37" height x 2.35" width x .77" depth".

The "suede jacket" is $9 + CA resident state taxes + $7 ground shipping  (however, shipping from SF to San Jose is same day or next day, so at least it's fast for me ;))

I'll update this thread again once I've received the pouch/"suede jacket".

Waterfield Designs makes some great stuff. Just ordered their suede jacket for the N900 too. They said it will take about a week to make. Looking forward to getting it :D

Anyone know if Vaja is making any cases for the Nokia N900 - or if the horizontal case for Nokia phones will work for the N900 ?

Interesting.

I got my spare (not that I probably need them because they don't seem to scratch) Vikuiti DCQ-160s from schutzfolien24.de and they were smaller then the previous ones, which were a bit too large for the N900. Otherwise similar package etc.

Date on this new package was 27.11.2009, don't know if that is from a newer batch because I lost the old package, but my curiosity got the best of me and I removed the perfectly fine self-cut one and applied the new one.

It fits perfect! Went in on the first try without any air bubbles or anything, tight fit but not too tight to be able to easily put in place.

It just got a lot more easier to recomment the Vikuiti!

BTW Vikuiti does not cover any of the sensors in front, there are three holes in the top left corner, one hole in the middle of left and one in the bottom left corner.

One slight problem, it is a bit too large - I used a straight-line paper cutter to cut a millimeter or so from two sides and now it works great. Absolutely lets the screen shine and so far no problems with touch working with either finger or stylus. I'm getting some more for future replacement needs. But beware, a bit cutting may be required if all are a tad big for production units.

Just bought a phantomskinz screen protector and two different rubber cases. The first one Team C had listed and the link below...see which one I like better.

Just curious, but how do people make money on these things?!? The link above is from Australia, and it only cost $2.87 to have it shipped Airmail.

Thanks iJanne, that just made me more confident for tomorrow when I'll get my replacement protector from schutzfolien24. My DQC-160 has been orderen around 15.11. so it has been about two weeks ago.

I'll report back tomorrow when I (hopefully) get my replacement.

Re: how are you going to protect your N900?

As reported in the screen protector threads I am using a Vikuiti DCQ-160 screen protector. The first one was slighlty too big and needed cutting. New replacement is perfect size. Seems like very good protection, easy to apply and reapply without residue, has proper holes for all the sensors, lets the screen shine through well and works great with finger and stylus.

I use a screen protector mostly because of frequent stylus use. I don't want to worry about scratching the screen when madly stylusing around.

For overall protection I use the black sock (yellow inside) from Nokia that fits well over many Nokia models including the N900.

Hey all - been roaming here a few months now, but figured I'd register to share this promo code I came across for 20% off full Invisible Shield (not just the screen protector) from invisibleskinz.com

http://www.invisibleskinz.com/
Code: MyDigi2993

The lady I spoke to there indicated that they should ship out by the end of the week, and I noticed that Zagg's site shows shipping from them in 3-5 days from purchase:

http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/...ns-shields.php

Would prefer to pick up a Martin Fields overlay, but I'm looking forward to these. I tried the Durasec "healing" protector and hated it. A big PITA to apply and didn't like the texture of the screen afterwards. Might be fine for non-touchphones (although I also removed it from my N86 cause it looked like s**t).

Update on the Waterfield Designs "Suede Jackets" from post 134:

They are shipping to me today two samples, a pocket and a no-pocket version, so I can perform a test fit. I should have these by tomorrow and hopefully have some photos soon. I'm looking forward to retiring the Oakley sunglasses sock that I'm currently using to store the phone. :D

@Kieron - $25 greenbacks for international shipping. Not cheap, but I've paid much more for Mini Cooper bits from the UK to the US...

@heybige - Thanks for the info and the discount code. Just ordered the screen protector with the code you supplied.

don't buy durasec. almost impossible to put on straight. i must have tried about 10 times trying to get it right and by the time i'd finished it had dust and marks all over it so i pulled it off and put in the rubbish. waste of 10 quid!

If you did please comment on whether there are problems with the proximity sensor as it is covered. I'm not even sure if it would create problems as it's supposed to be transparent.

Sheesh that was WAAAYYY to cheap to pass up! I went ahead and bought one. I mean how much worst can it be then the Sedio cases for other phones that run close to 30 bucks and break tabs of when you look at them funny.

Shoot I don't even care if it only lives for a month. I might not even use it if I don't like the fit and STILL won't feel bad about the less then 3 dollars I spent.

For the time being I'm using my old hard-sided belt-clip slip case that came with my 40gb 3rd gen ipod (RIP). The n900 is almost an exact fit, only protruding maybe 4mm out the top Pic here
Something to think of if you have an old ipod case.

I'm holding out for BoxWave to come out with their n900 screen protector. I'm also looking for a nice minimalist slip case, say in line with the one the n810 shipped with. I'm looking forward to speednut's WD testing.

The best way to protect the N900 is to Not open the box and keep the box in the bank storage with super security system. :)

Dont worry in 10years time it will still be new when you open it to show to your kids.

Re: how are you going to protect your N900?

I feel that this thing is too thick to put in case. Clear screen protector is all I need.

I'm not to worried about scratches, as long as they are not on the screen. You should see my iPod, it's like it has a matte finish on the metal.

My greatest fear is that my kids will get hold of the N900. Especially the 1-year-old.

WRT to the "handjack", if you speak German, the name makes sense. "jacke" - jacket, "handy" = cellphone. But the good news is that they are now launching it with a new name for the English-speaking market. See http://www.handywank.com

When using an Invisible shield, are there any issues with the touch sensitivity/capabilities of a resistive screen like the N900s

I'd like to get one, but I am very concerned about how it will affect the usability of the device
