creating realities to hold on to for your own security and stable state of mind is a human thing. be cautious however with realities which are created by your mind in order to fulfil a certain need which is created by mankind which does not belong to the basic surviving needs of a human being.

This also matchs with the "mid november" statement from nokia.

These speculations are becoming more and more like spam as they fill up my New Posts search. Can we all just agree that the first person to get a retail N900 in their hands (voice, email, and snail mail promises don't count) will post a new thread and everyone else will just sit quietly and wait until then.

That puts it after the HTC HD2, which means I'll probably wait until January or so to get this handset since I'll grab the HTC when it hits. Probably for the best anyways, since then I won't have to face the pain of the first firmware and its associated problems...

I just got off of the phone with Nokia USA... "official" word from the order-status-checker-guy is that the target is still mid-November, although it is very possible they will ship sooner. The reason given for the delay was lack of stock to fulfill all pre-orders at once.

There's no point in calling NokiaUSA anymore...they'll tell you anything to get you off the phone.

I was actually calling to make sure my order wasn't cancelled. I had received a call yesterday saying it was, and was told I'd receive a call back after a consult with management (but never did). The information I received was given freely without any inquiry as to ship date/delay reason/etc.

some of you may already know about the delay for the N900, to the end of jan 2010 (for the swedish markets only, dont shoot me).
i got an email from the swedish shop i ordered from telling me just that. But still im waiting for a more trustworthy source (peter, nokia, anyone who knows...) to confirm or deny that.
Now please, can anyone help me with that? i have also ordered from the swedish nokia shop, will they have it when you guys have your phones in nov?

If it's being subsidized then there is probably additional supply chain management involved for distribution through the carrier, however it's possible they'll still ship through other channels next month.

Geez, Nokia is in Finland, right?

So why would they delay the N900 to Sweden and Finland by another 2 or 3 months? Even if the release device has some bugs they will be fixable through software no matter where you live. So whats with the delays?

They are supposed to get at finnish launch at the same time as all 3rd party resellers. All finnish networks also sell unsubsidized phones, as nearly 80% of all phones are sold unsubsidized in Finland.

I placed my order with MPD at the weekend - had to wait for pay day to arrive first! My bank account now shows a £73 difference between actual and available balance, which some people might object to, but I take the view that at least it stops me spending the money on something else! :)

Just gotta keep a tight grip on my trusty N95-8GB and maybe download me a copy of the Maemo dev tools for Linux to distract me until the courier knocks on the door.

on a more general subject, it's really annoying how those threads about release dates (and similar threads) are popping up like mushrooms after the rain. The Signal-to-Noise Ratio in t.m.o is leaning slowly but surely to the Noise side, and that's very unfortunate.

I see a lot of new users in the forum, which is a good indicator that the N900 and Maemo 5 is building up some momentum in the general public, but unfortunately a lot of the aforementioned noise is generated by new users who don't want to use the search function (hint: you may get the information you are looking for faster by using the search function and looking for an answer that has already been posted)...

I don't want to be dismissive of new users (honest!), on the contrary: I really enjoy to see such an enthusiasm around the platform, and I also enjoy helping out as much as I can new users (years of being a TA leave some habits :)).

I actually posted the same information from MPD last Wednesday. I phoned them to confirm and they stated it as CONFIRMED as releasing before the 16th.

Previously it sounded like it had not been fully confirmed as releasing in October, only "expected" to release. So hopefully its much more concrete this time around.

That said, I think its fair to say there is ALWAYS room for further delays if a real shop stopper bug turns up unexpectedly.
