Yes, it's to be run in X Terminal and you need to have installed the bzip2 package first. To do this, install rootsh from App Manager, then run (in X Terminal):
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install bzip2

Did you download them in the correct format (i.e. stardict rather than XDXF)?

Each directory should contain .idx, .ifo and .dict.dz files if they're in stardict format.

You'll also need to configure QStartDict to look in the /home/user/MyDocs/dict directory (or use /home/user/MyDocs/stardict/dic instead, which is one of the default directories). To add other directories, select the Plugins tab, select the startdict row and then click on the spanner icon at the bottom (it will search all subdirectories of whatever you set there).

Once you've done that, they should then show up under the Dictionaries tab.

ok. easiest way: connect your n900 to your pc.
after that copy dictionaries in documents folder. after that, disconnect n900 from pc and use xterminal to move it in .stardict/dic
if you don't know the commands:
open xterminal
cd MyDocs/.documents (don't forget "M" and "D" capitals, in linux is different from "m" small unlike from windows)
when you are inside .documents directory type:
mv "name of dictionary folder" /home/user/.stardict/dic

eg: mv stardict-bulg_syn-2.4.2 /home/user/.stardict/dic

(if you know linux terminals you can use the tab on the screen to autocomplete commands, namefiles...)
;)

Re: QStarDict

I have installed the Qstartdict and it works very well for me. I had MStardict before. I have a question. Can one copy the part of the definition and paste it to some other application(eg. notes)?

by the way, selecting the 'help' menu would launch a wiki; but for my setup, it crashes with a parse error: syntax error: unexpected T_NAMESPACE...

cheers,

I do a double click with the stylus. Depending on where you double click it'll highlight different things, so on a word it selects it only, in a blank space around it, it seems to select more.

I do a double click/tabs the text I want and like you have indicated it seems to be doing a reverse highlight; and none of the text are copied:(

i have a look at that site, the size of oxford advanced learner dicftionart is only 4MB( i am afraid that it lacks many words in it), why there are no update for the database there?

Simple reason is that most of the "freely" available dictionaries out there are directly lifted from or are "based on" commercial ones and hence infringe on their copyrights. stardict.org used to host a lot of these infringing dictionaries but have now removed them all and advises that "Thousands of free dictionaries can be found on the internet by Google"

Re: QStarDict

hi @ all!

I'm facing an annoying bug (?) since I reflashed my N9 a few days ago. when starting qstardict it tries to connect automatically. before I could use qstardict in offline mode. moreover I don't see any sense in it since all the data is stored on the phone's storage. reinstalling, deleting cache and installed stardict dictionaries didn't solve the problem.

is there any way to disable this behaviour?
I'm abroad quite often and would love to have such a nice offline dictionary as yours just like before ;)

cheers
