Ok - getting:

not to my knowledge.
are you online?

or maybe your mmc is low-class?

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

Yep, I am online as I can run apt-get updates etc. As you can see it connects but file is not being found.

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

first try this in Xterminal

apt-get install wget

then try again

WPA2 wifi works fine with Nitdroid for me.

I have no idea why you are having a problem. All the problems I had I overcame by reading the Nitdroid threads.

That's it. Just follow the first post here, and the links, and do EXACTLY as they say, and you will have a working system.

Just wondering. I have a really old 2GB sd card and experience a really fast and smooth Nitdroid. It is possible to format only a 1GB FAT partition and a 1GB ext3 partition on any card (puppy Linux does it in 3 sec, well 1 min ;) ) Maybe that will be faster than using 2+ GB for FAT as people are doing on newer and larger cards? Don't know, but it is strange that my ancient card should work so well, while people are having problems with newer cards.

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

@NvyUs, you have to unmount before proceed,
sudo gainroot
umount /dev/mmcblk1
then your commands
=======================================

For people really really want to watch TVs
1) install flash 10.1
2) go Android Market, dl and install
a) TV.com
b) Discovery

TV.com has CBS/CW/ET/InsideEdition/CSI (Full 40 min episodes)....
Video does NOT play smoothly, it is full screen, some choppiness, like missing 1 frame for every 3, kind of like that. It is watchable though. Audio is very smooth. On ESPN/WRAL, video is only half of the screen, it is very smooth. It plays smooth on smaller screen but choppy on full screen, maybe cache/memory problem?

Still looking for Opera Mini and Google Maps......anyone got it...yet? I really enjoy this nitdroid thing, it bred new life into this somewhat dormant Diablo....

Essentially, you just become root and type

kernel-config limits 850 500

or something like that, just like you would overclock Maemo otherwise. Try and you will see.

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

My problem lies there and then:

1. Installed the AutoInstaller with extra-devel enabled
2. Ran the app -> Xterm Opens -> I type YES
3. It starts its processes.
4. Gets stuck at formatting Ext3 format. (I waited for over 20 minutes)

Tried manually partitioning, then ran the autoinstaller:
1. Partitioning done successfully manually.
2. Ran the Autoinstaller.
3. It starts its processes.
4. Exits after a getting stuck for a few seconds at formatting Ext3.

How do i go about it?
How do i proceed?
I am using a Transcend 4GB MicroSD HC.

You install rootsh. What else? After installing rootsh, you open a terminal and type the word "root" without the quotation marks, and hit enter. Some people type "sudo gainroot" instead, but I'm too lazy for that. I'm just talking about how you become root in Maemo, it's all normal. You would have already had to do this to install Nitdroid to begin with, wouldn't you?

The original question was how to overclock in Maemo, not in Nitdroid, and that's the question I was answering.

1. Boot into NITdroid.
2. Open market place.
3. Download any filemanager.
4. Open filemanager And navigate to EXTRAS folder.
5 Tap on flash .apk file to install.

A pop up window will appear. It will ask permision to download from other sites than market. Just tick it. Then tap the .apk file again and you should be surfing with flash 10 in a jiffy ;)

i tap install and it successfully got installed but i'm still being redirected to mobile site and still can't play flash...

is it normal that it can't compute the size of apps in the app manager? the apps i installed are stuck at computing while the preloaded ones are unable to determine the sizes...

I'm also getting redirected to the mobile version on gametrailers.com when i try to watch trailers. I just choose the desktop version and then i can watch them... but with some lag or serious lag... The mobile diversion also depends on how the N900 gets detected... I don't know about size showing up or not, havn't noticed?

Installation - an auto installater has arrived, just click and wait for 8 minute!

Running - ran for 24 hrs, no hiccup/freeze/reboot; speedwise, how does that measure to PR1.2? Honestly, I cannot tell if it is NOT running maemo.

Android market - dl and install, just like your favorite ovi store

Tell me one reason on earth, that you still want to wait?

Installation: N900 running PR1.2; Nitdroid will be installed in a newly partitioned external microSD; you need a 2G or larger and it will be erased, so dont leave anything there. Ther auto installer will NOT touch your internal SD. There are million ways to install nitdroid, this is the way I did it. DJ_Steve auto installer, as of today, there is a slight hiccup, auto installer stuck at 2nd format "Format .... ext 3", you can partition manually (Step 1 Partition 1-3 and reboot), and continue with auto installer, the whole process should take less than 8 minutes! I used a 4G Kingston, and partition 2G and 2G. Author Jay-C awared of this and would probably correct it very soon. Repo.nitdroid.com has been retired by author.
Yes, overclock works, a very minor extra step if you interested, thread #2.

For the noobs, please please please check your typings before hitting the enter key, that would save you a lot of headache

Running: Initial running will take you to setup wizard
1) setup wifi, usual way, need to manually key in password
2) DO NOT Touch the airplane mode. It will turn off all wireless and is NOT strict forward to get out. Just leave it alone.
3) Now play
4) camera button half press or full press > returned to desktop

Android Market: In USA, go Android Market, search for OI file manager, dl and install, and have fun

To uninstall, thread #3.

Keyboard get around, read it twice, you need it:
1) Ctrl + arrow key = arrow key in Android
2) camera key half press takes one back to desktop main menu
3) the small button between speaker and earphone jack will get you out of application

From the wiki, http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install
==============================================
Using NITdroid

At the moment the proximity sensor (a barely visible round object on the left side of the touch screen) works as the Android menu button, the lock/unlock button on the right side of the phone works as a back button and the camera key functions as the home button.
===============================================

Once done booting to NITDroid, don't forget to Thank The NITDroid team!

Great thanks to the Nitdroid team, bring another excitement to the N900!

I don't know exactly. There's a doc on the Nitdroid wiki that gives three possible setups for overclocking. Or maybe it's in the Nitdroid forum, I forget. All you have to do is pick one and follow the steps listed.

Nitdroid is already overclocked to 700 mHz, a developer says.

Patience doesn't always work. Sometimes you wake up and see a message saying "bailing out".

I had to reflash before I could see the "successfully installed" message.

enable/disable extral devel in application catalog twice and then write apt-get update in xterminal

Start your installation again and it will work.

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

hello fellas.
i installed nitdroid today and wanna share what ive seen so far.
first i installed on a old crappy class 1 or 2 2 gb card.
im running default kernel(600mhz)
i used the second auto installer cause with the first i had the ext3 problem.
so lets go:
software keyboard check
hardware keyboard and all components check
wifi with wep check
battery charging check
market check
browser check
all progs and apps working check
google mail check
IM check
pics check
contacts not available
musik/video not available
camera not working

so this was all until tonight:)
i would say for my crappy sd card its really fast and responsive but i will buy a class 10 card soon.
the whole os looks really good like the market too.
but i miss a multitask or close task option but i guess there is a app in the market.
maemo 5 looks untouched that means:
no crashes, laggs or any kind of difference then before.(i checked a half hour with different apps running top to be sure)
even my maemo.org bootvideo is still there and i have in both os`s the abilty to reboot and thats pretty nice.

EDIT:my battery is gone empty while i was in nitroid.after start chargin there came up some scary text thing(you know what i mean)but everything is still ok:)
EDIT2:ive tested it now for two hours.there are many little and big bugs(browser, apps crash sometimes, and the notification light started after a hour to flash in blue and it didnt stoped)
my battery is in 2 hours felt from 100 percent to 50 but maybe its because my crappy sd card.
but i think i stick with maemo.
there are many things which maemo makes better(IM,browser, multitask, pics, battery drain but i couldnt test everything yet)please dont finish me for that its my opinion and i believie it keeps getting better:)
p.s.
pls dont blame me.i know the most of you guys know all this stuff but i think there are many non-nitdroid users who needs some info about how danger the whole thing is.

regards

I have this problem and it seems to be that the download starts and times out (I've also tried downloading the file on my PC and using wget from X Term and it happens in both of those places too).

Is it possible to get the installer to download the file from files2.nitdroid.com instead? If so, could someone let me know how to make the required URL change please?

Thanks, Alan

I know, I know, I se this before, some time back....... you have to umount your device,
Just off my head, this is my guess,

root
xterm
umount /dev/mmcblk1

OR, you have something going on the disk, where you want to partition, e.g., a swap partition is active, or you have a program that is running and involved the disk that you want to partition, reboot is my 1st try.
