Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
The quickest way is to open www.openstreetmap.org, go to the location of your house and click on Edit on top of the page. After the login procedure select the building and fill in the house number in the address tab. If there is no building yet, simply create it. If the satellite background images don't show your house yet, you might need some additional help (e.g. a gps track).
Once that is done, hit save. Your changes will be visible approximately

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Thanks! The building didn't exist yet, but I created it by making a square (4 paths). Will check later if it shows up OK :)

If the 1.3.0 packages work for you, please vote for them so they find their way to extras:

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Hello,
first of all thanks for marble on maemo. It looks very good and i like it. Now my problem, I've still no sound, i tried to reinstall ogg-support, downgraded to 1.0.5, reinstall decoders-support, gstreamer and marble, restartet etc.. I tried marble from dev-extas and testing. I converted the ogg from mono to stero etc.. But I have still no sound. When I click "play sound" i can't hear anything. The oggs play in the mediaplayer on my n900. So what i'm doing wrong? Thanks for responding, wbhck |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Great to see that Marble is progressing!
Unfortunately there are still some things that prevent me from using it :( Some of these things might be lack of knowledge or stupidity from my side. If so, please tell me what I'm doing wrong ;) Generally, the app is missing configuration possibilities when it comes to map and routing services. I like the idea of OpenStreetMap, but it is missing some important cities where I live (Southeast Norway). Google would be a good addition, but even better would be a possibility for users to add services from the UI. Routing sometimes zooms out completely (world view) and the route only becomes visible after one of the way-points was touched/moved. Way-points also cannot be removed. The interface is still kind of sluggish and I cannot move most of the overlay elements. The scale bar can always be moved, but I have trouble moving anything else (speed info, ...). The zoom buttons are inaccessible in guidance mode (yes, I know about the hardware buttons for this). The possibility to display POIs is something that I miss a lot. Voice guidance also does not work for me. Routing with Monav is difficult because location names are converted to coordinates immediately, which renders making corrections impossible (location has to be re-typed into input field). And locations are not found when first letters are not in capitals. With Monav there is also a major slow-down and entering locations often results in having secondary characters in a name (e.g. Nor2ay). Is Monav searching locations while they are being typed into the search field? Puh, I hope that wasn't too much complaining :p |

Btw., is Marble really checking which services are enabled or not? When "Work offline" is enabled, Marble still seems to use online services when possible. And when all services are disabled, routing still works. Quote:

As I said, there are a lot of white spots here and unfortunately I don't have the time to fix them. Quote:

Sorry for being a pain in the ***, but I am really missing a good offline navigation software on my N900 and Mappero looks very promising ;) :D |

By the way, using - for example - google maps is perfectly possible even now - it's just not "fool-proof" GUI "load" button method, and require some research by interested one. Yet, as stated in Marble website, Marble devs won't give instruction on that. /Estel |

Anyways, I tried voice guidance again and it works very well for me ... except that it is giving wrong instructions due to missing map data ... OK, I will stop this now! :D |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
I have the following problem;
the region of South Kitchener is too course to navigate on and large parts of the map is covered by labels: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7065/7...59d4f545bf.jpg This is a sceenshot of Kitchener, Ontario. The top part is fine, but the bottom is too dittered and the word Kitchener is covering several streets. Quote:
How come it is not properly translated into the Ontario map? I just reloaded the maps in Monav, but no improvement? Please explain what I'm missing here... P.s. I really like the GPS info. Thanks! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Today went out on a trip and routing is broken
I noticed that the GPS is not enabled with Marble. Loaded another app and GPS turned on and works. It's just not working with Marble/Monav. Got home and reinstalled everything. I had erlier updated the Ontario map and when I checked the Monav config, I noticed it had loaded 2 versions of Ont. I deleted both and wanted to reload the most current. Now I cannot select a continent nor country. So reboot nor reinstall served to solve my problems. What can I do to regain use for this appl.? It all looked so bright, but its now completely broken! |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
I've just checked it with my device, an GPS is working (enabling) fine with Marble. It seems that problems is on Your device's side.
/Estel // Edit earthwings, some time ago You've requested comments on kinetic scrolling implementation in current Marble version (N900). While it's nice feature, I find it very hard to lift my finger after drag'n'drop scrolling map, without "invoking" unwanted kinetic scrolling. I haven't reported it yet, cause I though I may just need to practice it - yet, after so long testing time, I'm quite sure it's not only me, but existent problem. Also, is there any settings option to disable kinetic scrolling alltogether? I think, that in some use cases, it would be blessing, even after fine-tuning it. Thanks a lot for keeping updates for N900. /Estel |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Is there any way (other than downloading tiles before hand) to have offline map data with Marble on N900? Something like how Navit uses pre-downloaded vector maps from Cloudmade/Openstreet.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Not yet for real usage. I'll mentor a GSOC project starting this month however that aims at fixing that, see the proposal by Ander here.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Marble 1.4 brings some gradual improvements to the existing features. It is available in extras-devel now. Please report problems/success here.
http://nienhueser.de/marble/marble-1...g-backends.png http://nienhueser.de/marble/marble-1...-transport.png Additionally we have
http://nienhueser.de/marble/marble-1.4-bookmarks.png Last but not least I uploaded a "new" version of monav-routing-daemon whose only purpose is to kick out the incompatible version 0.3.release-3+hg5585bb4a8d77. That worked fine, so you don't have to do any manual work anymore to get rid of that version previously found in extras-devel; just upgrade to the version the package manager offers after the next sync. @niqbal: Voice navigation works fine here, do you still have problems with it? @acrux: There seems to be some problem with osmarender indeed, I'll look into it. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
I'm getting a segfault with version 1.4.0-1.
Code:
~ $ /opt/marble/bin/marble.sh Code:
~ $ /opt/marble/bin/marble.sh -------------------------------- Edit: Output of v1.4.0-1 with --debug-info option: Code:
~ $ /opt/marble/bin/marble.sh --debug-info |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Same here: After upgrade I get segmentation fault. :(
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
For me it works like a charm.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
With version 1.4.0, "Segmentation fault" also for me....
Concerning the monav-routing-daemon i can't find the deb of the new version. Is it already available? |

Verified all again, same segmentation fault result.
Using the debug option the output is the same previously posted by conred. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
I can report the same problem here after updating to Marble 1.4.0-1. I'm using CSSU-testing (newest version).
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
I can reproduce the problem when the N900 is mounted via USB, therefore I guess it is related to one of the base tiles not being available. Couldn't reproduce it on the Desktop yet though with a similar setup, so I need to debug it further on the device. I'll release a new version once I found and fixed the problem.
While we're at it, can someone with a working Marble 1.4.0-1 confirm that the height profile info box does work now? Create a route, click somewhere in the map and choose info boxes => elevation profile in the menu. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World

Edit: I'm running latest CSSU testing on that device, too. On another one with latest CSSU thumb Marble doesn't start, though I didn't check the debug output yet. Edit 2: Segfaults on that 2nd device, too. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
First time installer. v1.4 not working at all when i load up the app. Just show blank screen and then disappeared.
Try to install 1.3 but it required other dependencies or plugin. And when i try to install plugin...it won't let me. I don't know what to do. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
I found the problem, here's a workaround: Open a terminal and execute the following two commands:
Code:
mkdir -p /home/user/MyDocs/.local/share/marble/bookmarks @romanianusa, zincholic: I'm not aware of any dependency problems for 1.3, can you tell what packages/plugins are blocking it? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Thank you earthwings.
@romanianusa & zincholic: The following worked for me. First purged marble 1.4 Code:
sudo apt-get purge marble marble-data marble-plugins marble-maps Code:
sudo apt-get install marble=1.3.0 marble-data=1.3.0 marble-plugins=1.3.0 marble-maps=1.3.0 Code:
sudo apt-cache policy marble |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
there are update for some dependencies
marble-data (1.4.0-2) ... libmarble (1.4.0-2) ... marble-plugins (1.4.0-2) ... marble (1.4.0-2) ... marble-maps (1.4.0-2) ... and now marble work just fine... |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Nevermind.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
After todays' update (1.4.0-2) Marble works for me.
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
Version 1.4.0-2 is now in extras-testing. If it works fine for you and you've got a spare minute, please give both packages a vote:

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Marble - Find Your Way and Explore the World
EDIT: This was a more general problem, other programs had problems too. Eventually it went away, I think after upgrading some unrelated package using HAM.
Hi, I was using version 1.3 and everything worked well until about yesterday or so, when the UI started to look odd and make some dialogs unusable. For example: http://i.imgur.com/RE4in.png Upgraded to 1.4.0-2 but the problem continues. Do you have any ideas of what could be the cause and how to fix it? Thanks! EDIT: As you can see is like input widgets are not shown or badly rendered, but they are there, if I select the text in an input I can see it. |
