Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Guys.
Installed yesterday morning and only issue I noticed was a slight pixelation of the little loading circle on the top bar in things like ham. Completely dissapeared after installing catorise though. Everything else thus far has worked a treat. I did a reflash before installing update so can't comment on performance improvement as my system was due a tidy up anyway. Fresh install might be why I havent seen any of the issues mentioned thus far. Keep up the good work guys! I look forward to seeing how far this goes. |

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
Some of the image bugs people report (some image pixelated/glitched) have nothing to do with the CSSU. I had random icons load poorly before - usually it's in the form of a single random-colored 1-pixel-wide short line in the image. Basically, looks like the image got slightly corrupted/screwed-up. But reboots ALWAYS fix it for me. (Sometimes another image loads screwed up the next boot, but usually not.) So it's not a CSSU thing, it's just some random bug elsewhere, that shows up if the icons get loaded badly at boot, near as I can tell. (Not sure what the underlying technical explanation is.)
As for Remote Desktop - I'll be happy to test it if someone points me to a free Remote Desktop server I can install on my computer(s). I run VNC on my machine, so never needed to install Remote Desktop. |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
seems to be working okay, but why is the control backspace disabled? its pretty useful for multitasking

One page ago. One, page, ago. This was answered. And then two pages before that. And then a couple pages before that. Maybe not literally, but it's been answered multiple times in the last few pages. Is it really too hard to go "hmmm... maybe someone just asked the same question about the software I just downloaded, let me skim over the last couple of pages..."? (Hint: The correct answer is no.) http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=145 It has to do with how the various stuff is set in custom hildon desktops - resetting it as per the above posts' instructions fixes it. - Edit - Rob1n: Thank you for having more patience than me in answering these things. |

Anyway, to clarify: I run Windows on my laptop and home machines. I have VNC servers installed on them. I have both VNC and RDesktop installed on my N900, and would be happy to see if I have the RDesktop+CSSU bug some people are reporting. So, my source of confusion is, we are talking about Windows systems, right, and if so, what do you mean by "Normal windows" (normal 'windows' - as in single programs running in a window, or normal 'Windows', as in the OS)? Thanks in advance. |

Could someone post a default hildon.menu file ? Edit : All repaired... Seems that apmefo is not compatible whit the community update |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
The problem for me was MAG Hildon Desktop. Remove MoAG's hildon (maemodder).
I think it has installed, how do you tell? Does the /system/about change? |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
(Just found it after digging around in the control panel after asking the above. Went back here and it looks like I got to the same place you [Gusse] suggested. Though I run Windows Vista on the machine I'm on now, so it's got slightly different names.)
Will get back here if it actually works for me or I have any bugs. - Edit - I'm ******ed - it's not showing up for me. All I have in the Remote tab of System Properties is Allow Remote Assistance Connections - nothing about normal remote connections. Does it have to be Windows Vista Professions/Ultimate? Not sure "Home 'Premium'" comes with Remote Desktop by default. (I knew I had some good reason for asking about a Remote Desktop server in the first place.) - Edit 2 - Yeah, brief Google says Home version doesn't even DO Remote Desktop courtesy Vista ********. Which brings up another irritation I feel about "Home Premium" - what an anal name to call an operating system version when it's so crippled. It's like wiping your fecal excretement on someone and then calling it all-natural prime organic skin lotion. It just insults your intelligence because you still know it for what it is. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates

(This is to do with the mp-fremantle-community-pr metapackage replacing the mp-fremantle-...-pr package of Nokia's). If there is a PR1.4 (and it's a big if), the Community Council would liaise with Nokia and those involved in the CSSU to ensure that CSSU users weren't left in the lurch. There are a number of ways that could occur, a new update of the CSSU meta-package could be put out which re-introduces the Nokia PR meta-package. Or, a new CSSU update could depend on the new Nokia packages exactly as the Nokia meta-package does. Or, a notification could be provided to users that they have to switch, and here's how (with or without a reflash). Quote:

Seriously people, remember the bit where I said this was the testing repo? Things will be broken. Please read the available documentation (hell, improve it if you want - it's a wiki) and the logged bugs and you'll save yourself, and everyone else, a lot of time. |

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU
To those interested.
Modest orders e-mails by date. And when browsing the e-mail via the View window (i.e. when reading an e-mail and using the arrow buttons to navigate) the "next" e-mail after the current one is the previous in date. That is fine. However, when deleting the current e-mail, it shows the "next" e-mail, i.e. the previous in date. It is still fine. The problem (for me at least) is when there are new e-mails. I usually go to the older and star reading from there. So, when deleting an e-mail I think it's useless, I wanted it to skip to the "previous" e-mail (i.e. the next in date) I've received. To alter this behavior I made a patch to modest in the Community SSU: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11839 The patch is available as an attachment and includes an UI setting to alter this behavior. Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
I know my answer is probably be "soon" but I have to ask: When is MAG's multi-desktop patch going to be integrated? I used 4 desktops for over a year and last week I decided to open a 5th (I thought I had an impeding flash coming) and now I can't go back.
So, I read that it will be integrated. Is there some sort of schedule, proposed or real, or are things going to get pushed as the source gets done? I'm torn between the 5th desktop and the ability to use ENTER in mcedit. |
Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Matan made those patches, and I'm pretty sure the desktop in the repo supports +4 desktops, you just have to enable it via gconf.

Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates
Ah, sorry. I used MaeModder and the button says MAG Hildon desktop. I just assumed, you know, from the name.
Well, if it does support additional desktops, it's not in the changelog. Oversight? Intentional? |
Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Actually I've seen someone else reporting this issue. So please either file a bug or see if someone else already filed it and vote for it. Check here: https://bugs.maemo.org/buglist.cgi?q...y+SSU&content= However, I tried sending several emails and they arrived with text and attachments. Also, did you compile it with my patch or just the one from the Community SSU and which email provider are you using (I tried sending via Gmail) ? |

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

looks like emailing is a huge problem... the notifications also don't pop up now... and it doesn't highlight the mails that have new messages too... unless it's opened and ONLY then it shows the new message Edit: notifications pop up now... i sorta reinstalled modest... but not sure if it's just a glitch or a real bug |
